I would like to hear from Savage axis owners of what you think of the rifle. In looking at other threads on here, people seemed to be happy with it out of the box, but I was curious if you still like it after some more use. Any problems with it? Still a good value? Would appreciate all opinions.

I have a Savage edge 308, (they changed the name to axis, but same thing)
The edge/axis is an excellent value. No problems with mine at all. Shots very well, shot a few groups under 1" at 100 yards. It is a slim barrel contour and lightweight stock suitable for being carried for hunting.

I recently acquired a heavy barrel model 110 more suited to my shooting needs, that is the only reason my edge is up for sale in the classifieds.

I don't own one but I've shot a 308 Edge a few times. If you don't need the detachable box mag up front, I would get a Stevens 200 instead. It uses a standard Savage action and non-accutrigger, which means that it is upgradable with the same parts as any other Savage model 10, including user-swappable barrels.

They have a light, hunting-style barrel profile and the stocks are about the same quality as the Axis/Edge (flimsy plastic junk). You can change the bottom metal on the Stevens later on for magazine use.

I am also interested in getting my first bolt action for this upcoming spring. I have been interested in the Savage line. Of course I am looking at other brands also. I just have heard so many good things about the Savage line and the couple I have shot have been pretty dam nice for the value. I am considering going with 30.06 as I already have that as another large caliber rifle.

I have a savage axis camo package gun in .243, i love that gun. it shoots under 1" groups at 100yds, is easy to use, is light, has a soft rubber butt pad and its an epic value. I recommend them to anyone who is actually going to use their gun out in the field, because its light its not a burden to carry all day, is available in great hunting calibers for varmint and large game, and comes with a scope. Mind you its not a crazy awesome scope but it sure works!

Savage Axis XP in .223 here....

love it....

the magazine can be a bit touchy.... savage uses the same receiver and magazine body for several calibers, and it's pretty obvious....

but hey.... $300 rifle with a scope.... i'm just happy it holds a decent group at 100yds :)

i lightened the trigger a bit (less than $2 worth of parts at Ace Hardware got it down to about 4lbs from the stock 9 or 10)

50 grain Remington are a bit sloppy, 55 gr are a bit tighter....
looking to try some heavier bullets to see if it tightens up more....

but i was shooting the appendages off plastic army men at 100yards this weekend with the thing (shooting Rem 55gr UMC)

(5 zombie commie army guys, L-R, unscathed (coward ran), missing arm, missing rifle barrel, missing half rocket tube, MIA)

can't complain about that!

My cousin Jon picked up a Fancy Schmancy Savage with the accustock and accutrigger in .308, it's got the compensator, fluted barrel..... it's really nice :)

his only complaint is that it's expensive to feed, my only complaint is that i don't have that accutrigger on my Axis XP....

I was holding out for possibly a Savage 110 BA in 300, but crazy money. Been looking at Axis and a few others for now when I saw Thompson Center just intoduced a new rifle with optional barrels. I guess it's a mix and match kind of gun... check it out, it called the Dimension. Any caliber from 204 and up to 300 win.. check it out

That's something new. Butt-ugly stock and forend, but the interchangeable barrels are neat. I don't understand how they can all use the same receiver, though. How do they compensate for the different cartridge lengths?

It's growing on me.... the butt stock is basically a built in cheek rest, pistol grip stock and I believe the bolt is changed with the barrel for the different bullet lengths.. left hand rifle available and lifetime quarantee... daaamn, lookin even better.. I'm running out of room for guns...

turbo, thanks for posting that. I wasn't aware of it. In looking at it briefly it seems that the twist rate of the complete rifle is no always the same as the twist rate of the interchangable barrels? 7mm-08 and .223 at least in a quick glance. I will have to check it out more.

I finally got the chance to shoot my new savage axis 30.06 at hsc. Well worth the $300. I'd be happy anyone who's s better shot than me comment on its accuracy.
