Been thinking about getting more Finn Mosins. I have a couple of M39s, an M91, and a 91/30. I'd like to get some of the less common varieties. Which are the most desirable? What price ranges should I be looking at? A online dealer had a nice M24 that sold for $450 a few days back, and my local dealer has one for $420 on consignment (it's marked M91 but with the stepped barrel I'm pretty sure it's a M24). There was a nice "ski-trooper" M28 at a show a few months back for $450, looked straight out of the rearsenal process.

Any thoughts or tips on finding a nice one of each?

I'm not too knowledgeable on the lesser known Finn variations but if you're looking for one you should be checking the Gunboards WTS section daily. There are some serious collectors over there that often sell off some of their stuff at fair prices.

Most M24's will be $400 and up. And the stepped barrel does exist on the early Tikka M91's. They are rare, and it should be bought at $420 if it is a Tikka.

M27's are popping up on Gunbroker with regularity, at least 4-5 per month. $350 and up. Check the rarity chart on 7.62X54r.net for the more obscure ones. But the most common are 1931-33 Tikka.

M28's are downright scarce on the market. But for some reason, they aren't usually priced absurdly. $3-450.

M28/30's show up a little more often than the M28's, but seem to command a higher price, $450 and up.

The M24 barrel shank is marked with the Civil Guard fir tree emblem and doesn't have the Tikka stamp, so I think it's an M24. No other marking visible other than something that looks like a faint "B". also looks like someone tried to carve a big letter B or T in the port side of the stock. Counterbored, average finish wear. I'm guessing $420 is probably fair but not great?

If I see that ski-troop M28/30 at a show again I may just have to buy it. Haven't bought a C&R since my last Garand in august.

I see a stepped barreled Tikka M91 on sale at one of the C&R dealers for $395 right now, BTW.

Martin,

Any tips on what to look for when I'm considering M27s? The same shop I picked up the M24 from had a pretty nice looking 1934 Tikka on the wall, stock in great shape, the receiver had some pitting that had been finished over and a decent bore, and the later model reinforcement on the front band.

Nice looking M24, Bohler-Stahl barrel and a little stock art!

The '34 M27 has been upgraded/refurbished to the reinforced bayonet lug. Production of M27's was interrupted in the fall 1934, and didn't resume again until late 1935, when the new production upgrades went into effect.

1934's aren't rare, but far less common than the 1931 - 1933. Anywhere from $3-400 is usual. The refinished pitting might be a good negotiating point, but not likely affecting performance.

It's a consignment and they're asking $350 which seems like a pretty decent price. Finish is probably better than 90% and the stock is in really nice shape with the stock disc slot plugged nicely. I'm fighting the urge to go pick it up this afternoon.
