Canton Man Arrested after Bringing a Handgun to a High School

On Thursday, December 16, 2021 Worcester police were called to Doherty High School to gather information about a parent who was believed to have brought a firearm into the school on December 15, 2021 at approximately 1:52 p.m. in search of another student who was having issues with his daughter. The suspect was identified as 41-year-old Jerome Weekes of Canton.

A Worcester police officer conducted interviews from witnesses and gathered video evidence.

Officers learned that on December 15, 2021 Mr. Weekes was seen with a handgun inside his vehicle which was parked outside the school building. Mr. Weekes entered the building with his daughter after school was dismissed. Mr. Weekes had an object in the front pocket of his sweatshirt which appeared to be a handgun. The pair walked to a specific classroom and looked around. They then proceeded to search hallways and corridors. After a short period of time, both then exited the building without incident.

During the investigation, officers developed probable cause to seek an arrest warrant for Mr. Weekes.

Officers made contact with law enforcement partners at the Canton Police Department regarding the warrant. Canton police officers were able to locate Mr. Weekes on the evening of December 17, 2021 and placed him under arrest.

Mr. Weekes is being charged with carrying a firearm on a campus.

I may be the minority here, but I'm not going to persecute the man for breaking BS MA law.
They never found him with a gun inside the building. Just an object in his pocket. BS
Cross a state line and what they know (gun in parking lot) is completely legal.

Jumping on the "bad man with gun" bandwagon encourages restrictive laws.

This is what I was thinking, unless he's an idiot and admitted it they have nothing on him.

Something serious is missing from that pile of dung.

Need more info. But From the story it sounds like a witness saw him in his vehicle with a firearm, and if “on school grounds”? He’s already halfway to Fu€Ked city. Not to mention entering the building without permission. He Needs to STFU and get a lawyer.

And even a shitty lawyer should be able to get him outta this. Unless they have more evidence that they have not released.

Like maybe his daughter went on social media and told the world that Dad was going to shoot the kid and went looking for him.

He doesn’t need to enter the school with the gun to be in violation. On school grounds would cover the parking lot. If they have him on video with the gun in his possession on school grounds then he is screwed. The article is unclear on how they “know” he had a gun. On a street/right of way in front of the school and he might be able to fight it I suppose. But if they have video of him in the car with the gun then they probably might have video of him putting it in his pocket and then getting out and heading straight into the school in which case his goose is probably cooked.

Here's how my defense would go:

JBT Prosecutor: It was a gun.
Me: It wasn't
JBT Prosecutor: Karen said they saw one
Me: They didn't. There's no video, only the glimpse of something someone allegedly saw on a cloudy day through the tinted glass of an automobile seen at an oblique angle. Was it purple? Pink? Semi Auto? Revolver? Flintlock? Can you identify it from a picture and see if it correlates to a firearm I may or may not own through tinted glass from X feet away?
No?
Sounds like reasonable doubt to me.

Surf to the Canton LTC thread and scrollez-vous
for some Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt about the suspect.

Wonder if they checked the dipstick on his bank account,
and the balance didn't even reach up to the "can afford sh¡tty lawyer" line...?

^ This.
Notwithstanding the revelations in the LTC thread,
my money is on "someone ran their mouth".

You're hired!!!!

If they have him on video with the gun in his possession on his person on school grounds then he is screwed. The article is unclear on how they “know” he had a gun. A subtle but legally very important distinction.

Of course, using MA logic, it it was in the passenger compartment of his car, it was either "on his person" or "not under his direct control".

Perhaps, but his chances of getting his LTC back rank right up there with MA going constitutional carry in the near future. I assume he had an LTC since there was no mention of charges other than the 269-10j.
Sounds stupid… so they got a warrant for a past time when no incident occurred and have to prove an object in a pocket at the time was also a gun?
No, they have to convince a jury he is a bad man who should be punished. There is a difference.

If he is the same guy from the interwebs that lived in Brockton, he does not have an LTC

Def kind of a weird story so far. If, big IF someone saw him with a pistol in his car, then getting out with it in his hoodie pouch and also entering the school, why didn’t said witnesses initiate the 911 system at that very moment thus putting the school and 3 surrounding towns and private houses into panic porn lockdown?

I’m guessing they have very little if any, actually damning evidence, and someone squawked about it online which caused the following invest.

How long til we see gun laws similar to the drug laws around schools. IE: “Joey Pajamas of Revere was arrested for carrying within 1000’ of a school or playground.”

That's my old high school. He would've been better off looking for that kid at Elm Park, that's where the Albanians and Puerto Ricans used to go after school and wave their little knives around at each other.

So what laws has it been PROVEN that he broke? Where is the evidence here? He walked around a school with something in his pocket... okay, could have been his wallet. So what. Maybe the guy rolls with fat stacks...

He had a gun in the parking lot... okay, he left it secured in the vehicle cuz guns + schools = bad...

I'm not seeing any evidence of an actual crime here.

You don’t?
Proven?, nothing obviously, hasn’t gone to trial yet.
-Suspected of? witness says they saw him with a gun in his car on schoool grounds. Don’t need to enter the building to be a crime, parking lot will do. But it’s He said he/she said, so he stands a chance on that one.
-Entered the building without permission, all visitors must check in first at the office, they got him already on that, it’s on video. I’d bet zero dollars on this horse skating free. He clearly scores high on the stupid scale.

Does such a sign meet the legal requirement of a trespass notice?
