The Liberty Training Rifle

Depends on technique. For the loop sling you are correct. I did all of my shooting at the appleseed from a hasty sling, which requires a rear attachment.

You are be correct, sir!
My background in match shooting leads me to assume that all sling shooting is done via a loop sling- although I actually got my "Rifleman" patch using a hasty sling on ym M-Forgery ;-)

Ditto... I use a loop sling while practicing with my AR, but during the Appleseed, I quickly switched over to hasty on my LTR. A properly adjusted loop with a jacket is probably superior, but I found it much easier with the hasty sling to quickly change position without having to readjust. Ironically, I ended up shooting my best set of the weekend, and earning my patch, completely un-slung during seated and prone due to an equipment issue... but we'll call that a fluke [grin]

I only have experience currently with what you call a "hasty" sling. I'd like a back attachment too for convenience in carrying I think. I'll have to do a little research and maybe come up with something creative.

If anyone is willing to practically give away a 10/22 wood stock I would be interested in it. I would hate to drill mine screw it up and have to wait for a new one. I think I want to have one on hand just in case.

It is pretty easy to end up with the installed stud looking like the factory put it there. Don't worry too much about it. Just drill slowly and carefull. You'll be fine, and so will your stock.

And even if it looks like a three year old banged it in with a hammer (which it won't) it'll still work! [smile]

I was wondering the same thing about the 100 vs. 200. Why would they bother designing, making, and selling them (and why would people buy them?) if they are so useless?

That said, I'm still wondering if we got 10-20 people together who wanted several of these items, if there would be some discount/savings.

I got the 200, and I should have gotten the 100; the 200 is a little higher, and I would like the sight to be lower so I can get better cheek weld.

Good luck finding a brass punch. I used a brass machine screw as a buffer between the sight and hammer. You have to whack it hard. Watch your thumb!

Hardware stores don't have brass punches. I used a steel punch. I figured I had no use for the original front sight anyway, so I didn't care about marking it up. You really have to whale on it to get it loose. I found a few drops of oil into the dovetail helped.

When I shot the standard 10/22 at the Athol shoot I can honestly say that it was not comfortable at all for me to shoot in the prone, I think I actually did better standing/kneeling. It was also overall to short for me (I'm used to M16A2s). Is there a model/version that has a different stock (pistol grip maybe?) and a longer barrel? If there isn't then I'll probably pick up an SKS w/ detachable magazine and use that instead.

I guess you have a carbine? Adding a longer barrel is cheap and easy. Someone in the RimfireCentral classifieds has a 20" bbl for $25.
I don't know what's out there for pistol grip stocks but I imagine there's a ton out there. Try looking at ATI for a stock.

I borrowed a 10/22 for the event. I want to get one to shoot the cheap .22lr, but I didn't want to invest in a 10/22 unless I could get it to shoot good for me. I guess good for me is making it more like an M16/full size AR-15.

I have a couple LTRs. For one I used a 10/22-T as a base model, which has a 20" bull barrel - it gave me more weight and a bigger stock & barrel, which is far more comfortable for me to shoot. On my other I left the carbine barrel, but I put a Tapco collapsible stock on it, which has the pistol grip.

There are so many accessories for the 10/22 out there, you can do pretty much anything you want. There's even a couple companies that makes a 10/22 stock set that's nearly identical to the AR-15/M16. I don't remember who they were, and IIRC, they were expensive, but I'm sure someone will speak up.

Bottom line is that the 10/22 is like the Honda Civic of rifles - you can easily customize almost every part and make it look like anything you want. But if you're really hard up for an AR-15/M16 feel, get a .22LR upper from Spike Tactical.

You had me until the Honda Civic part, lol. I know jack-squat about 10/22s, so I guess I have some research to do. The one I'd be looking for would be the one with the longer barrel and bigger stock or possibly a stock with a pistol grip.

In free states, Walmart sells a 10/22 rifle, with longer stock and barrel, stainless barrel, "stainless" painted receiver, which fits adults much better than the carbine. I think I paid around $240 or 250 for mine about 6 months ago in VT. They show it on Walmart's website. It makes a nice starting point, although the paint on the inside of the receiver was doing a nice job of gumming up the bolt, until I removed it all.
