A 1/4-20 plug tap and a 3/8 drive socket that just fits over the case works in a pinch (also need a 1/4-20 bolt and couple of washers)
 
15 yards.

Top left: 2.8grains N320, 165g Xtreme, 1.188 OAL (8 shots).
Bottom left: 2.7g, same as above (6 shots).
Top righ: .357 cast, 3.0 grains of N320, 1.2 OAL. (8 shots)

I need to load more and test again. I feel like I wasnt shooting great yesterday. But so far, 2.7g seems to be a winner.

Couple years ago was out tuna fishing on Middle Bank. A bunch of the same birds landed on the boat and our fishing rods and immediately went to sleep for a while. They woke up and left, saw some land on other boats too. Did some digging and found out they are some kind of warbler that migrates down the coast and flies overwater to Cape Cod, then on South. They stop on boats to rest then fly on.

If you are picking up range brass or your own brass of unknown primer style, you must inspect your brass before processing to cull all berdan primed cases, else risk snapping your decap pin/stem. One berdan case can halt your reloading, unless you have spare replacements.
Most of the time, you can determine what's what by head stamp. Any unknown head stamps, I'd look down inside to verify which type of priming system is used. Don't mistake the dimple from anvil forming as a boxer primer flash hole though.


As for that bird, I'd go with some variety of warbler, too. One has been around my yard and almost flew to perch on me the other day. I just can't figure which one it is, however.

what powder are you using and what kind of numbers are you getting with the Noslers ? I've got a box of Hornady 140 eld m that I'll use when I start reloading. I've read that the Bergers are pretty darn good, but its hard to stomach the $.51 per bullet price tag.

but but its 6.5CM----has to be worth it.
anytime i get to pause on bullet prices I look to see what it cost to buy factory ammo with that bullet. Usually its much more.
Thank god I dont have any really accurate rifles in more expensive cals than 308/30-06
My rifles , skills and needs down range only need stuff like Nosler Custom Comps 2nds or when they go on sale.

I actually haven’t chron’d these but with the elds I was getting about 2900. I used the same powder charge. 41.5 gn of h4350 and since I got less than a 1 inch spread at 300 yards out of my savage BA 10 Stealth I stuck with that. Also had decent results with the 142 gn SMKs same load

I loaded some cast bullets to make 100 yard plinking loads for the 03 Springfield. I used the 311291 with 16.5 of 2400 and the 311284 with 16 grains of the same. Both loads shot better than full power fmj loads. The 311284 loads hit about 4" lower than the 311291 loads so I loaded some with 16.5 and 17 grains. I'll try them tomorrow. These loads are mild, accurate and very pleasant to shoot. They're also easy on rifles and brass.

I run a 165 gn flat nose , gas checked , tumble lubed and driven with 16 grains of 2400.
Use it in cmp 200 yard vintage match in my 1903a3
Ive take some various metal trinkets with it over the years. It will hold the 10 ring when I can
 
Today I finished swaging that 1100 round jug of 5.56 I (re-)discovered under the bench the other day. And started decapping another few hundred others I forgot I had...
Looking through a mess of 9mm, I discovered some crimped cases, they're going in the scrap.
 
Made 150 rounds of 45acp tonight. Finished up the last of my berry's plated and then moved into my stash of zero brand lswc. That was after I cleaned the muzzle loader......zeroed it at the club yesterday afternoon. It was a quiet evening in the basement 🤣

Gotta get a little stockpile built up it's open house at the club this Saturday and I have some army buddies coming to the club to have some fun and hit some plate racks.

My goal before sat morning is to get another 200 rounds of 45 made and also change setup and get 200-300 rounds of 357 mag made up to put through the Henry. We'll see 🤣
 
I tried the 16 5 and 17 grains of 2400 along with a load I haven't used since my son was a little boy and wanted to shoot something bigger than a .22. The load is 20 grains of SR 4759. That load shot well but not quite as good as 16 grains of 2400.

Years ago I was at Bill's house in Maryland; stopping by on my way to North Carolina. Rolled my bike into his garage, and noticed the monitor he had set up. He'd run CAT 4(?) all through his house, including his garage. Made it really easy to look up specs while wrenching. When I went home, I trenched and ran cable out to my garage. I've had a spare computer in every garage I've owned since.

And NES - I just loaded 350 rounds of 9mm. I've got a fun match tomorrow and a State USPSA match Saturday.

Nice! I'm shooting the Area 7 USPSA championship match tomorrow in NH. Should be gorgeous weather for shooting this time of year especially. Good luck on Saturday.

For those of you that were following my 2400 powder saga......powder not igniting and causing squibs......someone on here mentioned checking the crimp to make sure it was consistent and a good hard crimp. Well......was gonna start pulling these apart to save the projos and said what the hell.....I ran them all through the crimping die and gave them a good .....hard....noticeable crimp and I'll take the carbine and revolve to the range and check them out .....with a wood dowel amd hammer if course. 🤣

Looking at them before running them through the die.......they seem lighter than some other batches of 357 I've made and maybe a little inconsistent. I'll know more tomorrow. Some other research I've done on this 2400 not igniting says inconsistent neck tension is seperate but similar to a light crimp causing low pressure and inconsistent or non existent burn. After recrimping them I checked to see if I could spin the bullet and even using pliars I can't spin them. Then I measured oal......pushed them hard into the bench and re measured and couldn't detect any setback.

I hope this solves the problem.

Anyway ran about 250 rounds through the crimper and then made 100 rounds of 45acp.
