What did you do in the reloading room recently?

Bagged up some clean brass but did no reloading today, too busy preparing for the weather coming my way. We're expecting snow and maybe an inch or more of ice beginning tonight and possible sub zero temps in a couple of days. If we get that kind of ice, I'm certain that the power will go out. Generators all fueled, oil checked, started and positioned. Wood brought in for a few days.
Tonight I'll probably finish up some .308 using some H335 topped with a 174gr FMJ BT Match bullets while enjoying the wood stove heat.

Out of curiosity, do you ever sleep? Seriously, I still want to be your neighbor. I could come over every day.

@pastera should we meet up and you can take some measurements ofnthe express trim and see if you could make some 44 mag, 9mm and others?
Let me look up the parts list and manual for it
If it uses a bearing to locate the case adapter I might be able to do something sight unseen.

That said the post office finally sent me my order of boxes so I can send out the powder pouring lids - @andrew1220

Looked at the manual - shouldn't be too hard to make something

Can you do a rough sketch of the outside dimensions of on of the bushings?
Looks like a top hat so the following dimensions are needed
Total length
Thickness of the flange (brim of top hat)
Diameter of flange
Diameter of the body
Distance from the front of the bushing to the cutter when installed

A set of calipers is plenty accurate enough for these measurements.

An uncle of my wife knows I am starting in reloading and asked me for primers. "Can you spare five".

I handed him 500 LRP and he opened a sleeve, took five individual primers and handed it back to me with a smile. What kind of psychopath am I related to.

I had him take the rest of the 100 pack. I guess he has been Lee Loading the same deer rounds for the past 50 years and loads and shoots 5 a year.
Know a few like that ,

As requested, my Dillon 650 setup:

Finally finished trimming the 30 Carbine brass. Though once I get more brass from jpm, I’ll have to do more trimming I’m sure 😂
its funny how much 30 car stretches compared to other straight wall cases. i have about 3500 30car to trim up. I loaded 100 from that batch and had some cycling issues. All where to long. At least i have some good ammo ready to go for 30 car.

It really is amazing how much it stretches. Thank god I don’t shoot my Carbine often otherwise I’d loose my mind with brass prep.

Wow. It's getting worse in the classifieds now. $100/1k almost seems like a deal.

I'm holding out hope that I can get one more drop and then I'll be all set.

It's getting to the point where I've been able to find factory ammo cpr cheaper than what some people are looking to get for just primers...
I have fellow reloader friends that told me they’re willing to spend up to $100/1k for primers. I’m like seriously???
They had no interest in doing group buys on primers back in 2018 for $24/1k....oh well snooze ya lose

I noticed this while searching for info on storage limits.

Before you stock in the next 10,000 rounds of ammo, maybe you should stop and think.

Which brings up the subject, how has the process been for those who have contacted the town fire chief for storage permits?

I lucked out with finding some on the drops. I started a month and a half ago and managed to get my press and components, inuding enough primers to get me through quite some time. I'm paying slightly elevated, but nothing too bad.

I survived the last couple shortages. I'm sure this one will end. Then, I'll really stock up. I wasn't reloading last shortage, so I don't even know of components were hard to come by then. I just remember not being able to find .22lr.

Also, this mornings LRP drop had a HAZMAT fee greater than the price of the primers...

I'm okay now, but if I run out of primers, I can either pay or not shoot. I'll still try to play the game on vendor sites, but not much choice if you didn't stock up OR are new to reloading. Fortunately, I did stock up on ammo for some calibers, but due to new guns in my collection, I'm depending on making my own ammo for some calibers.

Its really crazy how hard it is to get people to buy in bulk on group buys. I was lucky to have 8-10 local old timers in a group. Sadly in the last 4 years we lost 4 and 2 moved so its down to 4 of us.
We where doing at least 2 mini buys a year and about every 2 years a big order on bullets and primers. We where planning a Fall 2021 resupply. Well we got to gether and figured we could get through 2021 with ease and then go from there.

I also went through this In Jan 2020 , i called a few friends and said. Putting in a ammo order what do you want. This is the last bulk order we are doing. How many cases of what do you want.
Now a year later they are with out much ammo ?

I think if it was more of a regular, planned buy on a semi or annual basis, then I think it would allow people to plan and purchase in large quantities. JMO

I just renewed my permit with the local FD and I checked out the NFPA 2015 code they go by in Mass. According to the code, you can have up to 10,000 primers without a permit or anything.

If you want over 10,000 primers, YOU NEED A STORAGE LICENSE not a permit. There is no permit that covers primers at all. And from what I could gather, licenses require specific methods of storage and inspections by the FD. So you need to think twice before packing your house to the gills with primers and no license to store them. If there is some kind of incident at your house, you could have legal trouble/fines. And if you have a claim, your insurance company will tell you to pound sand too. They'll use any reason to deny a claim.

What kind of storage is appropriate?
