What did you do to your firearm today.

No picture, but I have an older Marlin 1895 in 45-70 that I bought new decades ago. Bought for a bear hunt that didn’t happen. Last year decided that I should at least take a deer with it, and swapped out the peep sights for a scope. It shot well and fed the 405 grain flat point flawlessly. However on way to deer camp picked up a box of Hornady soft points ( leverevolution). The soft points turned it into a jam-o-matic. Seems it’s well know that original magazine follower didn’t work with the pointed bullets. So today I installed a new aluminum follower with a dished surface from Ranger point precision. I had made up some dummy rounds that always jammed action on last round. The fed beautifully with the new follower.

My rifle is old enough that it had a metal follower, just a flat face

Broke down top end and cleaned fully and then installed new tritium night sites on the $279 G21 Gen 4 Police Trade in.

Christ these things are getting cheap. $40 dollars now off amazon for US made night sites. Like half the price they used to be. Left me some $$ to buy a 3 pack of Gen 5 13 rd mags on sale at Midway, and still be under $375 for the whole deal.

I got this Osight on the pre order deal several months ago for just over $100, I haven't done anything with it until now. I didn't really want to swap out on of my other optics for this. I figured its about time to try it out so i picked up an EGW plate to mount it to this GP100.

Finally had some spare time yesterday. Got two more fal's screwed together.
The first a German G1 on an imbel receiver. Very smooth build like any imbel build. Unfortunately I very foolishly forgot the handguard retainer after timing the barrel so I had to do that all over again after some choice words... but in the end my luck turned around as the locking shoulder in the receiver headspaced great so need to change that.
Just need to oil the wood but it's functionally ready for test fire!

Second one is a British L1a1 on an inch cut imbel receiver. Also a very smooth build, remembered the retainer on this one! Not as lucky with the installed locking shoulder but fortunately i had the correct one to swap out so all is well. Just having a little issue that it doesn't quite want to snap shut. The receiver lock in the kit looked almost new so I will swap it out for a little more used one that I have and that should do the trick.

Got two more to build up then I'm out of receivers. If anyone had any or a mutt in the corner of their safe let me know!

Turned a perfectly good Ruger Super Bearcat into a magnum. Damned metal shavings everywhere. Now I have to take the whole sumbich apart and polish everything that moves.

It's over 50 years old and has never been fired. It's gonna be surprised as hell when I touch it off--heeheehee. Can't wait.

Blame the demon rum.

Got the barrel contoured. 1000000621.jpg i tried a new insert which worked a trick. In the past I've had to work in sections using a steady rest and some goodness. I went with a more of less Douglas '1.5' contour. Just a bit heavier at the rear than a no 1 but very nearly the same at the muzzle. In high sight I should have gone lighter, but oh well! I can always turn it down more at the muzzle end and have a stepped contour if it doesn't handle well.
