Why don't you shoot USPSA/IPSC???

FWIW,

Uncle Fester and I waited at the club from 4:45pm to 6:10pm, and nobody showed up.

Very very frustrated. Especially after we said that we were going.

That's a bummer. I've never been to Hopkington but know most of the guys. There must have been a miscommunication in the thread, or since ipscdrl (Mike) said he was out of town, maybe the plans had changed without him knowing it. Don't count them out. One of my friends down here (Bob G) started joining them on Wed nights and had a blast on top of improving really quickly.

Well I stopped by Harvard tonight and met a few of the guys. Good time, I'm certainly going to go again soon. What a huge place... unbelievable actually. Met Dan, John, Gary, Matt and a few others. Talked to Dan and John for a while about why I really like IDPA so much... LOL. I must say I was a little intimidated by all the serious equipment these guys had.. I showed up with just my G19, mag carrier, kydex holster and some ammo but I had a great time nontheless! Thanks!

Fooped I really apologize things didn't work out for you tonight. I haven't been to the Hopkington club but we will make sure we know exactly when they will be there next and let you know.

Lugnut, I'm glad you also made it down. Harvard is the Disney Land of shooting ranges. The best part is you always get your own shooting pit whenever you go which is great. You don't have to wait around to shoot. Just show up set up your targets however you want (safely of course) and practice what you need to work on for the day. Plus, they have a pair of plate racks setup all the time which is great.

As for the gear that we use.... it's pretty cool stuff. Your Glock will be PERFECT for this game. The setup you have that you mentioned is absolutely perfect. You'll notice that most people use a 1911 of some sort usually a high cap frame.

Are you coming back again?

Certainly! Disney Land is a good description. I thought I might have been in Holleywood with all the props and set ups.

As I mentioned is some other post as well... action shooting- whether IDPA or IPSC is a blast....Like you I'm surprised more don't do it. I'll be there again soon for sure.

I understand - it's happened to me. However, it's an informal thing and the proverbial "critical mass" is not always there.

Don't give up!

It is a great idea to send people to clubs and it is a great idea to go. My suggestion is contact a member of the club rather than members of this board who are not club members.

We held our practice at Bass River last night but that is hit or miss also due to work, family, etc.

If you can contact Rob Boudrie on this list regarding Hopkington or others that are Hopkington members I am sure you can arrange a time when they will be there.

Regards,

Guys, I am SO sorry that you went last night, but I understand one of the regulars WAS there. He should have known from monitoring his E-mail that everyone else bowed out last night due to the weather. As I mentioned, I am out of state this week but should be there next week.
In the summer we practice on the outdoor range weather permitting and once daylight savings time ends, we move to the indoor range for the winter.

You got a kick out of the Old West Village, eh? That is an increadible facility.

How far into the fall do these practice sessions go? I'm going out of town and would like to try it just once if I can find some time.

When it gets cold and dark. They shoot indoors

There is a match this weekend at Manville.

If you are new, just let Paul Taylor know at the shooter's meeting and he'll set you up with a "shooting buddy" to show you the ropes.

All you need to bring is a revolver with moon clips or speed loaders, belt, holster, ammo, holders on belt for the clips or speed loaders, and a desire to have a good time.

(you can't blame me for trying to recruit revolver shooters[rolleyes] )

AND, of course, tip money for the MD, RO and your "shooting buddy." [wink]

NO; I'm just kidding. Come. Have fun.

Join us - on The Dark Side................

I'll be shooting a roundy-rounder Sunday and again at Independent next Saturday.

Interested in Trying but......

the last time I checked, there isn't a single USPSA club in the state of NH. Joining a gun club in MA just to learn seems a bit more of a PITA than I'm willing to go through.

Who said you had to join a club?

Just show up at a match, talk to anybody there and mention that its your first match and I'm sure, they will either guide you along or in the very least point you in the direction of the match director and he will help you out. No need to join any club just to shoot IPSC...

There used to be a club in NH that shot IPSC matches...Piscataque (sp) or something like that....up by the Air base...

USPSA/IPSC in NH

Actually there were two when I started about eight years ago. Piscataqua and Pelham. Pelham was a very active club at the time and was the home club of the Northeast section http://www.uspsa-ne.org coordinator. Pelham lost its core workers due to burn out, I'm not sure about the other.
As stated, you don't need to join an affiliated club to shoot local matches or practice. USPSA membership is required for the larger championship matches.

Barring any unforseen issues, I will be at Hopkinton for USPSA practice tomorrow evening. Look for the big guy in the red convertible. [wink]

Michael.
