Foreign news sites often refer to "officers" when they don't mean officers. And probably 90% of Civilian America doesn't understand what "retired" means in a military context. I've noticed even a lot of NESers don't grasp that.

I was on orders once as a Unit Fire Marshall, meaning 2LT Picton was technically responsible for checking that fire extinguishers were present on every floor of the C Company barracks.

If the media got ahold of that, they'd refer to me as a "retired fire chief."

That has changed quite a bit over the past few years. There is a huge shortage of workers in that industry, so the pay has gone up quite a bit.

I can think of literally thousands of places within an hour of Lewiston that they could never find him. There's so many seasonal homes and campers with no security, millions of acres of single track dirt roads scattered all over. There's barely any cops between Gray and Rumford, and Auburn is a quick trip to anywhere in between.
