Air force boys and girls get real guns !

22 years Air National Guard Veteran here. I can attest that in my career i fired about 150 rounds to qualify in Basic, then about 150 rounds to qualify before each of 3 deployments. That's it.

My first deployment was to Iraq. We were each issued an M16A2 and 1 magazine with 10 rounds. When we arrived at Balad, we locked our rifles in the vault on our compound and were given a hand receipt. They were reissued to us to carry home and locknup in the armory at the wing.

No weapon issued for the next 2 deployments because we weren't going to a combat zone (just to an ally nation in the Middle East).

So, yeah. Your Air Force ground support troops aren't spending a lot of time learning to use and using a weapon.
I was driving behind a bus today and it displayed a full size Air National Guard recruitment ad on the back. So I went to goANG.com and on the front page it displays the following picture. It’s pretty enticing if joining ANG means playing airsoft and paintball all day 🤗

I was arguing with my co worker, Zippy (see link) and he was telling me that it was BS that he needed a permit to own a gun because he was a veteran. I said it’s BS to need a permit because I’m a citizen.
He said yeah, but at least you know veterans know how to handle guns. I called BS, and he asked what veterans don’t know how to handle guns. I answered “the Air Force, the Navy, half the Army and a quarter of Marines”.
Other vets around, from all branches laughed and agreed, and zippy sputtered off.

This is exactly the attitude of the boomer douchecanoe I lamented about in the walmart ammo thread. He was AF
