Law check; Use of force to protect pet against coyotes?

They recently changed the reg from occupied building to building “in use” which includes sheds and probably out houses and lean-to’s. Worsening the set back problems that already exist; especially in the eastern part of the state.
  • Possession of a loaded firearm, discharge of a firearm, or hunting on the land of another within 500 feet of any dwelling or building in use, unless permitted by the owner or occupant. See page 21 for additional gun laws.
This is a new regulation? As of when? Who was asking them to pass this? Does it get any sort of public review? WAY overboard. Would like to see them actually reel this back in, in the opposite direction. WTF?

I think that they pushed it through when they extended the archery season and changed the pheasant regulations. I believe that it was in force for last season.

There are public hearings and opportunities to comment…….then they do what they want anyways. The system will not be deterred as they know what’s best for us.

Keep leaving food out, so they get used to it. Then poison it.
No... Do not do this. The chance of collateral damage is far too high... Other wild life, neighbor's pets, etc... Just as likely to get you jammed up with the law as poisoning wildlife is illegal, etc..

Monday morning 3:30am woke to the sound of what appeared to be a pack of coyotes howling up a storm. Lots of them, like a convention or something. Had to be close by the sheer volume. It stopped as quickly as it started. Too lazy to get out of bed and look.

I have the same experience with them, but this tends to be the experience with rural wildlife vs suburban or even urban “wildlife”. They’re a lot more ballsy where they’ve become accustomed to living alongside humans.
I think you are right. When I was in mass, the coyotes were ballsier. Up here in the whites, they don't want to be seen, stand offish - they want nothing to do with humans up. The turkeys are more aggressive lol
