CC at holiday gatherings?

I understand the meaning of "conceal" but I only carry where there is a possible threat to my wife and kids.

Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot?

Is there a list of unsafe places out there?

I won't be carrying at this years party because it's at my house and my wifes family are all liberal Kennedy lovers.

No chance of being shot by Democrats wearing rose colored glasses as you know.

P.S. add the Walmart in Springfield to your list you don't need a crystal ball to know your in danger there.

I will be having Christmas at my house and will have my G 19 IWB. The only time I don't carry is when I am in Mass for work or in NY visiting the wifes family. The only time your safe from any threat is when your dead.

You don't have car insurance because you EXPECT to be in an accident at any minute. You don't have a fire extinguisher in your home because you're PLANNING to have a fire.

It's the same with concealed carry. You carry because you realize something could put your life in danger at any time. Maybe not at the family party, but how about going to and coming from? Besides, if you were EXPECTING trouble, you should have a rifle with you - not a pistol.

As far as drinking goes, don't do it. Not even "a few social drinks." Once you have any amount of alcohol in your system, you've pretty much set yourself up for failure (legally) if you do need to shoot in self-defense. If you really must drink, have a locked case in the car (have it there at all times, in fact) and lock it up first.

I don't tell the family I'm carrying, and they don't know (I just got back from one last night). If I go to these every year for the rest of my life and never need it - that's fine with me.

If I ever needed it and didn't have it - and it resulted in death or serious injury of a loved one - I couldn't live with myself.

The choice is up to you, but you can't be KINDA pregnant. You either take self-defense seriously, or you don't.

There is always a possible threat. ATGATT.

Ha!

ATGATT--The perennial argument between MA, CT, and NH motorcyclists; whether or not to wear "all the gear all the time" due to differing restrictions in the neighbor states...

But did you mean "all the guns all the time?!" [rofl]

Okay. I will admit I used to have 2 homes where the owners were very much anti's and I wuld check my gun in my underseat storage vault when I went n their house. Then one day I just said screw this. One friend, we no longer talk to, for her very liberal tirades. The other friend we had a conversation and she knows I carry and have at her house. She tried to get me to tell her if I was carrying when we hd the conversation. I told her she would never know but to assume I alway am carrying. The world did not blow up and we are still friends. She even knows I have taken her husband shooting. She doesn't want a gun in the house as long as their son lives there (he's 14). So maybe she isn't so much anti as just a scared sheep.

Both. [wink]

For me ATGATT comes down to being as safe as [STRIKE=possible]possible[/STRIKE] practical all the time, because you never know when Mongo is going to start shooting or when some fossil in a Volvo is going to try to run you over on your bike.

lol i'm sorry, if your driving in a car with your friend do you not wear your seat belt "out of respect?" I carry when I mow my lawn I carry walking to the mail box, I carried at Thanksgiving, and I will carry on Christmas.

why would you ever want to put yourself in a situation where you said " gee I wish I was carrying right now"?

As was stated "Concealed Means Concealed". There is absolutely no reason for anyone to know that you are carrying a firearm. It doesn't matter where you are or where you are going. The fact that you are carrying a firearm is no ones business. PERIOD.

At YOUR house? Screw that. I could understand out of courtesy to store it in your vehicle if you were going to THEIR house...

Quoted for truth.

And if you lose it, what WILL you do, what WILL you do?

(not all NESers are old enough to get this reference)

travelers checks?

i always am armed even if it's just taking out the trash or getting the mail. holiday fun is no different. the one time friends saw me and asked why i was unarmed i responded with "because i'm getting SHITTY". sure enough much alcohol was imbibed. otherwise it's maybe a glass of scotch or something and that's it.

i have to drive from CT to MA for our xmas eve family joke... any NES CCW holders want to escort a guy with a mullet?

My girl always gave me crap about carrying to her family events. To avoid the arguement I didn't the first few times. What I would do was to go into my safe when she wasn't looking and put my CCW in an IWB and she wouldn't have a clue until we got home and she saw me put it back in the safe. She got over it after a few times and I explained to her that it isn't likely something would happen at her family's home but on the car ride there, stopping for gas, stopping for a last minute card, who knows what could happen.

I carry always unless at work (they won't let me).

absolutely NOT!

There are children at my family gatherings. And carrying a firearm around them is absolutely irresponsible because they are dangerous. You people disgust me.

General question for all you guys and gals who carry. When you're going to someone else's home, whether for a family party or otherwise, do you bring your sidearm? I tend to not out of respect, but I suppose it depends on where the homeowner stands on the 2A.

I understand the meaning of "conceal" but I only carry where there is a possible threat to my wife and kids.

I shall repeat like others have said, CONCEALED MEANS CONCEALED. No ones business, but yours.

Absolutely. I have no idea who else may be at one of these events and what their intentions are. I will not be caught unprepared.
