Sup guys. I was hoping to snag some quick info on Red Dots. I’m having a G34 slide milled for a Holosun 507c and I’d just like to know from you guys what you do about iron. Do you change out the factory iron sight so that you can co-witness and if you co-witness do you have a 1/4, 1/3, or more iron showing thru the optic? Do you specify how far back on the slide you mount the optic. I hope that makes sense. TY.

Mine have been milled low enough where I can (barely) use the stock sights.

I think the big thing about cowitness is on carry guns....incase the dot don't work.

For range guns....who would really care unless your a tournament guy who would get effed by a dead battery or optic in the middle of a round.

J/K 😂

If cut depth and your RDS choice is predetermined, I would leave rear sight in the original spot and do lowest usable co-witness.

P.s.: New Primary Arms RDS form factor looks cool too. With MOS cut Glocks it sits very low.

You won't get a perfect cowitness with stock height sights. It will be more like lower 1/3rd. You can get higher sights if it's really that important to you. Since it sounds like you're not using a mounting plate then your cowitness should be usable. I would put night sites personally.

The optic can only really go in one spot because of the firing pin safety, plus you want it as far back as possible anyways. Pistol dots have tiny windows, you don't want to do anything to make them smaller.

well...if you fancy yourself a bonafide operator you should have those sights for back up. for those times you go dark cause you forgot to pack a spare battery.

My 509t is flickering under recoil on my Glock 17. Also my battery life seems to suck. Im gonna switch to trijicon soon for my two pistol red dots.
My 407 has taken an absolute beating over the last 2 years on my macro and it works fine still

I literally dropped in on concrete the other day

I don't carry the Glock so the battery should last forever and it doesn't. I carry a P365x with a 507 or something and the battery life sucks. I do keep it fairly bright with the circle and dot though. The dot disappearing while shooting is new.

Nice setup, but can you take a pic from shooters POV to show how the sights cowitness on it? Thanks!
The height of the cowitness DOESN’T MATTER. You are getting yourself wrapped up over something that is completely unimportant.

Backup iron sights on a red dot pistol are there for backup in case the red dot fails. Can you see them through the red dot? Are they below the dot so they aren’t obscuring it? If yes, then good enough. The exact of the sights is not important.

Since this is a Glock 34, I suspect it is a range toy. In which case some folks would argue that backup iron sights aren’t needed.

I got an ade in a trade that i thought was shit... but it sat so low on my kimber makos slide i didn't care

I fired one round and bam it came to life and has been solid ever since

But that sucks its acting up on you. How long you had it?

I’ll put a China sight on a China gun as soon as I buy a China gun.
I put a china red dot on a turkish range gun total cost $450 for gun and sight.

Both run great, the sights cowitness..... and I have 2K in my pocket left for other guns and ammo.

But now I feel bad. Ill go buy an american made can to make it all better.

I’ve used nightfusion sights for a few of my builds as a Trijicon suppressor alternative and they worked out well so far.

They have a nice selection tool where it will spec out the sight height/model based on your optic and desired sight picture (but it’s only for factory slide mounts)

My apologies for asking to see a picture of cowitnessing of the particular gun/sights/rds combo in the thread about cowitness! Won't happen again! 🤣

Like I said earlier, lowest usable cowitness to maximize view through RDS window would be my suggestion. For the same reasons you mention.

You are getting yourself wrapped up about something that doesn’t matter. Different red dots, slide cuts, and sights will be at different heights.

You are getting yourself wrapped up about me wanting to see this data point. 🧐 😉

Go ahead and see if it is easy to find an image of that exact combo.

Primary Arms going $$up market$$ and making a sight completely 'in the USA' is a game changer. Should sway many gun folks who have sworn by 'nuttin Chinese touches muh gunz'. Although the $800 price is jaw dropping at that point why not just go with an ol' reliable American brand like Trijicon?

Pre-sale is up for 4 MOA HTX-1 at $649, ACSS Vulcan HTX-1 is OOS at $699. ETA April. Mil and LE discounts apply if you qualify. Would be interesting to see regular/sale price in a year.

I don't understand what you're looking to get out of this. If it's an absolute cowitness, you'll see cowitnessed sights. If it's lower, well, it's lower.

You can see how particular slide/rds/sights combo looks from shooter's POV, it helps making decisions if you thinking about getting the same setup.

See the first picture posted by mcb above? While his RDS choice is up for debate, picture perfectly demonstrates how that combo cowitnesses and how much of the lens is obscured.
