Dis NUT!!

I’ve gotten off similar nuts with a spanner like this. Put a pipe over it for more torque.
This wrench, with a short (less than 18") piece of pipe/tubing that I had in my metal tote, got the nut off without too much effort. Probably torqued to the 'standard' of about 40 foot pounds. I'll just go to snug and then align the gas tube when putting it back together.

Now I need to decide if I use the 80% lower that was already part of the build, or use the new Aero M5 lower for it. Might keep the Aero in case I decide to SBR the AR10 pistol setup (after making sure it's 100%).

I'll think about it... Will have to see if the spanner I already ordered does the job or not. I'll end up using the thing once to remove, and a second time to reinstall, the nut. IF I cannot remove the thing, I might just say "F-it" and get a replacement handguard and then large pipe wrench the old one off.

update: just looked and the spanner is set to arrive on Monday now...
I think my AR15 wrench will work ? You can borrow it, (I know where you live) ;)

Dude, already posted that the wrench from amazonians got the nut off. Ummmm, phrasing?? [rofl2]

I also tried my AR wrench (one from fourrunner when they were available through his post all those years back). BTW, I've pretty much stopped using that wrench since almost nothing I have uses what it has for functions. All my handguards are drop in that use regular wrench flats to install/remove. I have the sizes needed to install muzzle devices without issue and more.

Going to degrease and maybe blast the AR10 parts starting tomorrow. Hope to get through them before EOD Wednesday. Worst case, I'll be spraying them on Thursday.

Also need to get to my LGS and see about getting some lowers delivered to them for a couple of builds. One for the AR15 pistol setup since that lower is just far enough out of spec to be destined for the scrap bin (started as an 80%, so no great loss). That is, if they don't already have some inbound that will work for me.

OK, should have read through all the posts, I did a quick thread skim. Glad you are all set !

Darn, I was really rooting for the Mongo pipe wrench.😂

Mongo is just pawn in game of life...

I used it maybe a year, or so, ago to remove the Sig AR barrel nut (think I mentioned that already) for my former boss's son's rifle. He went from the Sig handguard to one from MI, so a healthy upgrade. Took almost no effort at all to bust that nut.
