Wadcutters cut clean on regular paper, but the shoot-n-sees tear. Go figure. It's S&B factory loads, 148gr 38 special. Are these handloads? Looks like your tumbling to me.

Was the target turned slightly, causing one side of the wadcutter to hit the paper first? It’s weird how consistent they are though… all going to the left like that.
It's probably just how the paper is made that makes it tear like that. I've had paper targets that make it look like the bullets are tumbling. It’s weird how consistent they are though… all going to the left like that.
My guess is the thicker paper stock combined with the wax(?) coating that gives the visual feedback is not letting them cleanly punch holes. It's probably just how the paper is made that makes it tear like that. I've had paper targets that make it look like the bullets are tumbling.
Past 400y it's ALL about reading the wind and doing the math to convert a wind to it's 90deg crosswind component.More testing off the bench with custom dial on my scope. 330 yards. Seems dead on so far. That Tikka 308 with Leupold vx5 is a deadly combo. 440 yards is next.
I'm learning a lot regarding wind. Getting out to 300 and beyond it really starts to matter. Probably blowing 7mph left to right. Holding four inches or so makes a difference. Learning to look at the heat waves, not just grass. Fun stuff.
Good stuff right there. Thanks!Past 400y it's ALL about reading the wind and doing the math to convert a wind to it's 90deg crosswind component.
A very accurate rule of thumb for doing mental crosswind trig is:
15deg, 30deg, 45deg, 90deg
equals
25%, 50%, 75%, 100% of a 90deg crosswind
That means a 20mph wind from 30 degrees (5:00 o'clock) is a "50% value" wind, so treat it like a 10mph crosswind.
Yes, a wind from just 15deg off your nose (12:30 for example) is a 25% value wind, so treat that 20mph wind like a 5mph crosswind.
I memorized these two number sequences, and after some practice can do the mental math pretty easily.
15, 30, 45, 90 (degrees)
and
25, 50, 75, 100 (percent of 90deg crosswind)
(Yes, 15deg is actually 26% and 45deg is actually 71%, but round numbers are easier to remember)
I still see some red. Keep shooting.S&W M&P 2.0, first run, no cleaning, no lube. Might see if the Apex kit fits, smooth out the trigger some. Hurried the two missed headshots, and jerked (the trigger!) on the low torso shot. Knew it as soon as I did it.

Almost ran a second box through, but wanted to get going for lunch with mom.I still see some red. Keep shooting.![]()
Topsfield Fair is this week. Every time I go to any fair I do 1 tube of BBs. I expect to die without shooting out the star, but I figure the odds are a little better than the lottery
Best 5 shot group on NESAfter skirting around the bullseye on another target because of an 8 to 10mph cross breeze, missing it by an inch or two to the left and to the right, I set my sights on target number two. 440 yards, and the breeze finally let up for a few seconds.
So now the bench shooting is done. The CDS dial is dead nuts on. Also letting the barrel cool for several minutes made a huge difference.
Time to shoot off the pack.

That will be one super fun gun to hunt with.Snuck out to the range on Thursday afternoon for the first time since the spring. Shot my new Marlin SBL 44 for the first time as well. Got it sighted in for deer next month in Maine. Decent enough accuracy with federal Hammerdown 270 gr at 50 yardsView attachment 926234View attachment 926235View attachment 926236
Still seeing some red. Didn't we talk about this the last time?Hit the range with the M&P 2.0 Metal today. I added an Ed Brown threaded barrel and a Harrington Arms comp.

That's 50 rounds to the head, 50 to the chest at a distance of a smidge over 6 yards using stock irons.
LOL, yeah, I think it still needs breaking in, or I have to risk the Apex kit even though they say it's not "certified" in the Metal M&P. But damn, the first ten in the mag went right in the 10 ring. Then I started shooting faster, guess which two were too fast.Still seeing some red. Didn't we talk about this the last time?
Great shooting!
Scratches will probably drive me crazyThat will be one super fun gun to hunt with.
