Guide to gun rights in your Massachusetts town

I think some of the people who get ALP are either renewing or know the right people in town, or actually do carry valuables or work in places or situations that might draw criminals. For example repossessing cars or showing real estate at night or whatever.

The people who get ALP and think their PD is green may not even realize they have an edge, but they went in at the right time and got the licensing officer in the right mood, and during conversation or review of all written and unwritten aspects, all was taken care of.

We shouldn't even have to be writing about these disparities, and green towns, red towns, whatever. This is so f*cking stupid. Where are our law makers? F*cking morons.

I had no problem getting my LTC-A NR (first-time licensee) in Burlington just a few weeks ago. I did specifically ask Sgt. McDade whether I could get a license without restrictions before my appointment to fill out the application, and he told me that I could and that's how he filled out the application. I would call and ask him about it, but you definitely should have brought it up when he was typing up the application.

Yeah, I should have. I think it's my own fault. I did tell him when we initially met about 2-3 weeks ago that I wanted a ClassA ALP, and the fact that he started typing it tells me that he knew I wanted an ALP...but I dunno. I'll let you all know tomorrow morning how it went.

Just got off the phone with Sgt. McDade. It was a miscommunication...when I initially spoke to him he asked me what I wanted the license for, and I said I like to go to the range and shoot, so he took that to mean I wanted restrictions... I explained to him that while I will primarily be using it for range purposes only, I would like to keep my options open and if at some point down the line once I'm more comfortable and after taking some CCW training, that I would like to carry. He said no problem, and changed it to ALP while on the phone.

Burlington confirmed to be awesome.

No kidding. I don't know why anyone would assume someone would want restrictions...but at least it's cleared up now.

Thank God...I was getting worried. [thinking]

I got my unrestricted concealed class A with no fuss in West Boylston. They were very professional, polite, and expedient.
Just makes me love my town more.

Sweet!----That gives me hope then. I submitted my application in W. Boylston on 11/28 and had my picture, prints and final appl. done on 12/19. The officer said that I would get the license in 2 1/2 to 3 wks. I am assuming that it will be an unrestricted Class A because that is what was printed on the final application. Now I must wait patiently (or at least try to be patient).

anyone in Everett know how long it will take?

I went down to get printed and pictured yesterday and they told me the back ground check CHSB is running about 2 to three weeks right now and they seem to be doing them in batches once they send it from the PD. Any other delays are probably due to issuance at the PD in your town. The COP signs ...[grin]

Fitchburg also now has a new Mayor (Lisa Wong) and still has a temporary CLEO. So I have no idea what is going to go on with permits.

A friend of mine just got her license and had no problems.
The interim guy (Kearns) is a local and has been on the PD for what
seems like forever, so I think we're safe (for now). The thing to
watch for is whoever they select to replace the missing chief....

As far as Wong goes I detect some "liberal" but she hasn't made
any mumbles-menino type of rhetoric noises about crime yet. At
least in her campaign 99.9% of it seemed to be focused on the
city's fiscal/economic issues more than anything else. What
effect the new mayor has on the PD remains to be seen.

Westford is relatively green. Nothing beyond the official state form, and I just picked up my LTC-A with no restrictions. I say relatively because it took 53 days. It probably would've taken longer if I hadn't called the CHSB to shake things loose. Mikaela(sp) at CHSB was very helpful, and even called Westford PD on my behalf to see what the holdup was. Same day she called, I got a voicemail from Westford that they'd approved my license and would call me when it arrived.

Michaela is an excellent contact. She gets things done.

anyone in Everett know how long it will take?

I originally got my permit in Everett about 8 or 9 years ago and it took a few months. I did get my LTC A w/no restrictions though so it was worth the wait. They originally told me it would only take a few weeks but it took about 3 1/2 months. It was way longer than it should have been. I'm sure things are different now.

I just applied for my LTC-A in Franklin and it was a piece of cake. Now if only getting my drivers license was this simple.

Franklin is very straightforward, other than some nonsensical, superfluous forms (which it may have stopped using) and its not-uncommon practice of issuing restricted A's as the first LTC.

Having dealt with Attleboro, including its chief's refusal to renew LTC's based on events occurring years before - or for even less reason - I disagree with your assessment.

really? I have 5 friends here in Attleboro who all have LTC-A unrestricted, one with a prior record.....

I heard from two Attleboro residents that first issue is restricted, but again, it's hearsay.

really? did they have anything in their past criminal history? for what its worth, I have a clean criminal record but my driving record is downright ATROCIOUS and I got LTC-A UR.......I got the feeling when I went in to the PD that they were very business oriented (not friendly, but not mean either) but were fair.

I don't think so, both are in positions that wouldn't permit anything serious. Maybe the chief has come around recently realizing that restrictions cause more problems than they're worth. As has been posted many times on the board, Chief Glidden and the Mass COPA's own attorney have advised them not to go overboard with restrictions. Lucky me, my chief never got the memo.

well, here's to hoping that come renewal time, they go unrestricted!

IM looking to move in the next few months. Plainville, unfortunately is out of the question (for obvious reasons) but there is a lot of stuff I like in North Attleboro. My gf wants to move into Brighton or Brookline, and to that I say "babe, even if we get married one day, I will maintain residence out of those city limits"

I am happy to report that I also have been successful in obtaining a Cl. A, restrictions:none in West Boylston. My wait was not too long and finally over!!!

Charlton Green: My wife got her LTC (Class A) 4-5 years ago in Charlton and I just got mine. NO problems, no restrictions, took about 5 weeks to come in.

I thought Charlton was RED. Did they change chiefs since?
