Has anyone ever been charged for having an unpinned muzzle device on a 14.5 inch upper if the OAL was still 16 inches?

Not really. There's not exactly a huge abundance of anything resembling real gunsmiths left.
IDK, I got a guy 20 minutes away that will do it in 24 hours or so and he charges me $60 but I guess if your having trouble finding someone to do it you got to do what you got to do

Ever have a fudd come up to you at a range get up in your face "is that a flashhider?" *no, it's a comp* "OH GUD. COZ U CANT HAVE DAT"
Had that happen to me a couple times plus I've seen fudds get huffy over binary triggers that others had. Every single time I will verbally correct them that we don't need club members playing Maura's advocate nor do we need anyone playing cop at the range. Per club rules- pretty much anything but MG's are OK. I and other club officers generally frown on rule additions and specifically won't allow any rules banning items that are federally legal.

OP should know better than to look for assurances over these issues.

I got charged for having a really big dong without proper identification. Turns out you need a special license and I qualify so they let me off with a warning.

You can respond by asking them about their status of the driving license, vehicle registration and LTC.

Good Lord!

I just called a couple gunsmiths.

They are backed up for many weeks.

It cost $200 for the job. It must be pinned, tapered, and welded.

F THAT!!!

I'm going to keep my muzzle brake on this upper and just go buy a brand new upper that already has a legally pinned and welded flash hider.

For the $200 I'll save and all the time - it's like I'm getting $200 off the price of a new upper.

Crisis averted!!!

OP NOT GOING TO JAIL!!!

EDIT:

Here is another point!!!

For $200 I can get a tax stamp on the lower and not even have to worry about having less than 16" - I can then have a 14.5" Upper with a flash hider or not!!!
Ma**h***(sp?) over at the mill pins and welds for I think $50, his worker guy is spot on on the weld and blueing, you can't see that any work was done.

Also, in two of your comments I've seen that flash hiders might be legal? Where is the source for this? I don't give a fiddlers F what is at the end of my barrel but adding breaks cost $$$

Dave pinned my Troy Claymore forward brake on my Tavor for a very reasonable $65. Not sure how far out from North Attleboro you are.

I don't want to be a test case, but...

In the big thread about the new law people are saying that there is no need for muzzle brakes as flash hiders are now legal.
Same for collapsible stocks.

8/1 stuff is good to go now, same as the old pre-94 ban.

For post 8/1:
(iv) a threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash
suppressor or muzzle break or similar feature; or

Feature is a threaded barrel.

You did send it off to be threaded and pinned.

Would you be concerned if it was unpinned forever?

In my case, if I remove the muzzle brake and put on a flash hider - the OAL (Overall length) is still 16".
It's just not pinned until I decide to take it to a gunsmith.
Throw some red perm loctite on that shiz.

Massachusetts...

I have a 14.5 inch upper that I'm getting a pinned flash hider for.

Must it be pinned?

I know this is federal so has anyone ever been charged for this if not pinned?

Is it also illegal in Massachusetts if the flash hider can accept a suppressor?
You are literally one email away from Federal prison. Either you're a Fed or you're the most autistic mother f-er I know.
