The Mountain Phase of Army Ranger School is based about 10 miles NW of Dahlonega, GA. Surrounded by National Forests, National Recreational Areas, private timber land, etc in the area. Mount Yonah is used to learn various mountaineering skills. Definitely not a lot of people around."Brass Rats"
I've heard tell of them.
I saw one once.
The critter was gathering up my 308 brass as fast as I could pull the trigger at my home range here in NH.
I was doing a few 25rnd mag dumps with my LR 308.
The hot brass was burning it's fingers.
I just kinda laughed and thanked it for picking up my brass.
Confusion was evident in it's eyes
We would have training ambush patrols set up, on a mountain trail, at 1-3am, in winter.
And we always knew when the OPFOR was coming, because we’d hear pickup trucks lining up - of the brass pickers!
Typically the M60 gunners would try to rip off a couple hundred rounds (so we didn’t have to carry it). But how much is, say, 1,000 or 2,000 expended blank cartridges of 5.56 and 7.62 worth to make it worth driving miles, in the middle of the night, in winter? Blank cartridges so not, to my knowledge, reloadable.
