If there were no gun laws... Would you rather have 10.5 inch AR Pistol (buffer tube only) or 10.5 inch AR SBR (adjustable stock)?

seriously hampers the lethality of a .556 which relies on speed
not too critical, though. still enough to fly 300yds or so.
20" gives a 2846fps, 16" - 2693, 14.5" - 2623, 10.5" - 2384fps
so, speed drop is big, but, it will do its work considering it is a red dot or iron sights gun.
a non-suppressed one of course will sound totally obnoxious.

He's just trolling. I miss the Reptile of old.
Not trolling - just needed some answers.

I see lots of places online selling AR pistols just with the tube.

I thought maybe there was some advantage of having a tube rather than just avoiding the ATF.

From what I’ve read, .556 needs 2500fps to tumble and fragment, which is what makes it such a nasty little pill. 14.5 barely gets you there, 16-20 is the sweet spot. Without the tumbling and fragmentation, I’d rather punch bigger holes.

yep, for sure.

Off the top of your head what can you come up with for stockless rifles having an advantage?

Wat?
Taking up less space being less bulky easier to carry and hold as if it was an actual pistol.

These were all misconceptions I had due to lack of exposure.

They were illegal in Mass before the new law so I never considered getting one.

Essentially no one holds a braced rifle like a pistol. Outside of people with one arm only everyone else shoulders it.

So, if theres no problem legality wise a good stock is the answer.

My AR15 pistol uppers have 10.5" barrels. One is 5.56, the other is in 300 blackout. I leave the 300 blackout upper on the lower for "home defense" along with a pair of 20 round pmags loaded with 110gr "DRT" rounds (dead right there). Close to that I also have my Stribog SP9A3 pistol setup (also with a brace on it and a loaded 30 round mag). Basically, I have options for a home defense situation. :D Of course, I could pick my 12.5" AR10 pistol and either a 20 or 25 round pmag. I also have ear pro right there too, so easy to grab. All of this is with three seconds of my bed. The AR15 and Stribog have lights on them. I almost feel bad for whoever picks my place to break into.

All the places I look, where they sell AR pistols, they come with a brace of some kind.

That's a reasonable criterion for FMJ bullets, but we aren't limited by the Hague Convention. Hornaday makes a 75gr load in 5.56 specifically designed for 10.5-11.5" SBRs in both LE and "civilian" guise. I suspect the results from 75gr Gold Dot would be similar.

My concern with a 5.56 SBR as a self-defense weapon is the noise level. At a guess, out of a 10.5" barrel you're looking at 160+ decibels.

Just means you won't need to use a flash bang when someone breaks in and you start blasting.

I get that about the loophole and love sticking it to the ATF, but I stand by my assertion that 10” .556 “pistols” are obnoxious to anyone but the shooter. ESPECIALLY at an indoor range. Also 10” seriously hampers the lethality of a .556 which relies on speed for its devastating wound characteristics.

A suppressed short .300blk, OTOH makes practical sense, and is far less obnoxious! That’s a round that was designed for SBR applications.

Smart tacticians value their night vision and want to make as little noise as possible.
This......just finished building a pistol lower and ordering 8" upper for 300Blk pistol. I don't care about night stuff...but I will probably get a can for it.

Those are setup so that you can install your own brace, or stock. Looks like they're using standard carbine buffer tubes, not the pure round pistol buffer tubes. VERY different thing from what you implied with the opening post.

What's better, a brace or a stock? Do ERT/SWAT/ATF agents use braced short rifles or stocked short rifles? lol.

cmmg dissent makes a 14.5" upper in 5.56 with a welded brake but it is unfortunately not available pre-built at a discounted price, you need to order it from the factory at a full $1600.
there is a ton of 10.5" ones at $1100 level at gunbroker, but it is a silly thing to have with no can on it, so, hard pass in MA.

for the rest of country, with a right suppressor on it, it would be a neat small thing to own.

rear rail allows to mount a folding stock/brace of your choice.

If there were no gun laws, nunya. Nunya Bidniz!

I'd own both. Or all 3. Or several of each. . . . OK, probably not. Probably one of each. Maybe. It's an AR. It's modular. And fairly easy to module.

Do you run corrosive? How do you clean and ensure you get all the salts out?

Solvent like hoppes, get it nice and wet. Scrub a little with a toothbrush or whatever. Get all the shit lose. Wipe down everything. Apply lubricant. Done deal.
