One of the finer points in collecting surplus rifles is finding one with some beautiful wood grain. Be it Elm, Birch, Walnut, or even laminate, there are some real works of art out there when it comes to rifle stocks. The fact that they were military rifles with a slab of wood makes it that much more of a collectable when you find one thats interesting.

Have a rifle with really nice wood? Post it here.

The Nagants and the Swiss are indeed very pretty.

The M44(?) and the front SKS in the bottom photo; isn't that laminated wood?

So no one else has pics of their rifles with an interesting grain pattern or stock?

Not a great picture, but the rifle has a nice pattern in the laminate stock. Rifle is a semi-Kriegsmodel late war a-block 1944 DOT K98k Mauser. East German post-WWII bolt MM rework. I have scraped off the shellac, and by now the rifle has 20 or so coats of hand rubbed Tung oil on it. This was my first MilSurp rifle bought back in 1995.

A couple more; miserable day to take pics.

Your almost there. On my computer I can double click on the img link then just paste it the message and it usually appears. I'm no expert but learning as I go.

Its an 1890 Swiss Aydt 8.15x46r Shutzen 200 yard offhand target rifle, originally a black powder cartridge, I shoot it nearly every week but do not use black powder instead I use 13.5 gr.s imr4227 with a 180 gr bullet..It takes down and the bore is like buttah have never seen one exactly like it anywhere. 32 inch fluted barrel, origional sights .... its a keeper
