I’m sure there are companies lining up to cut them up and score points with the powers that be.

I remember an old cop show. In one episode there was either a PD or some bad cops who instead of melting down confiscated guns, they were melting coat hangers (I’m that old that they were metal then)

They got caught reselling the guns.

Dick's was still selling guns at about half their stores when the surveillance started, so they were still probably one of the largest gun retailers at the beginning of the spying program.
