MA Gun Grab 2024: H.4885 - Passed legislature, headed to the governor

The NRA chipped in $500k to fight the MA AWB.
There's a lot of negativity about the NRA right now and rightfully so, but they are still the leftist bogeyman and I'll pay a small yearly fee to piss off millions of liberals.
I would love for someone to post here when the NRA talks about what is going on in MA in one of their magazines or whatever they send people now.

I am serious, I want to see what they have to say about MA. It seems they always talk about other States.

Anyone have actual insight on these two questions:

1. Is the pre 94 grandfathering just for ownership, or also for sale/transfer?
2. Once Gov signs it, will there be 90 days afterwards until its law?
- outside of an emergency provision, are there any other ways this 90 day period is not granted?
Any answer?

I am reasonably sure that they already know that it's going to fail..... this whole thing is a virtue signaling operation. There is little or no consideration in any of this legislation to try to protect it from or forestall any legal action. Even if they soften it considerably there's a half dozen avenues of attack. The intent was obviously not to go mild here to have it survive scrutiny but rather strictly for virtue signaling as a sort of a moonbat temper tantrum/ middle finger.
I agree with your take on this, and wanted to offer another (possibly naive) take on this narrative:

I could see a prosecutor saying:

1994 law banned named AW’s going forward, which didn’t explicitly state copycats / duplicates, but it’s understandable they indeed fall under this ban.

2016: Healey’s first warning / interpretation of the 1994 law, which is preliminarily supported by the rejected injunction in NAGR v. Healey by the 1st circuit court. (Basically “we told you once in 1994, we are telling you again in 2016.”)

2024: New forthcoming law; SAFER, to be signed into law. The reasoning for the 2016 grandfather date could be seen as “we banned this in 1994, albeit a bit grey or muddy, but we are going to cut you a break and grandfather 22 years later.”

Maybe a bit of a stretch, your thoughts?

Everyone already knows this is not about criminals, but instead is about turning
their political enemies into criminals.
FTFY
I am surprised they are still trying to sell it that way. Not sure how they say it without laughing.
Narcissists.
They could cut our throats and then sit down to eat.
Simply because we don’t think like they do.

Yuri was right and Mcarthy didn’t go far enough.

It's like the completey unscientific 6 foot distance rule during covid. Makes no sense
Just saying and I know that you know this but it makes perfect sense.
Everything they do is about power and control. They only sell it as safety to the morons who support them.
Cause a problem then offer up a solution that takes away rights and causes 5 more problems. Then use those 5 problems to strip more rights and cause more problems. Lather, rinse, repeat.
That’s how the average person commits 3 felonies a day.
Free country my ass.

I see it differently. They have the majority vote, the momentum, and are swinging for the fences for what they've wanted all along. I don't think it's virtue signaling so much as a kid with a $100 bill in a candy store.

For a variety of reasons they do not respect any recent decisions from the Supreme Court so are in part retaliating against them.
Antis that want their shit to stick around would act pragmatically. There's an entire spectrum of annoying garbage they could have put in here that would have withstood scrutiny but instead they're just basically teeing up a bunch of low hanging fruit. And ironically what you're describing is the definition of virtue signaling... basically doing things for appearance only that don't really amount to anything in reality.

This is basically a toddler on an airplane that's going full retard but eventually the plane is going to land. 🤣

The irony is that we're all getting worked up on here, but do you think the real "bad guys" are shaking in their boots about the new "tough on guns" laws that they're cooking up...

Answer: they're not.

These legislators know that 90% of the guns in the crimes that they're talking about don't come from most of these channels they are trying to jam. "Ghost guns" and "Glock switches" on the streets in Urban areas.. maybe... TBD.

Its disingenuous to state their intent was really to make an enforceable way to charge people for this based on some collections of parts and machinery without an LTC, they could explicitly do that not some omnibus crap.

Also...show me how many major busts they truly let slip through because the lack of enforceability. I bet its zero, because switches are illegal and constructive possession is a thing. Certainly the busts likely involve other components (drugs) or ammo they can charge with but neglect to use their resources properly .

That should tell you everything you need to know about the intent behind this push.
Personally I can’t wait to be part of the criminal class I hear the Tax savings are phenomenal.

I’m just finding this whole charade to be underwhelming for me. Didn’t care years ago with what they tried and don’t care now. I’m just gonna keep on livin man.

Rest assured they will get it done for the Moms and the children. Also, because politicians always love the power and money.

Just got an email from them. At least they’re trying to get the word out.

If people spent 1/20th of their time calling/emailing their reps/senators, showing up for hearings or doing something useful other than posting on a forum this may have had a slight chance of not moving forward. Going online and ranting about it after the fact does absolutely nothing other than make people feel better.

You reap what you sow.....................
You're assuming that contacting legis-critters and kvetching here are mutually exclusive activities

This.

I cared. Once.

Now I just do my thang.

Essentially your fooked. But not yet. Maybe not as much. Maybe more . House hates you. Senate hates you. Now they have to combine that hate for a proper fooking that the gov will sign.
