Marlboro Gun Show, Jan 30 & 31

This will be my first ever gun show to attend. Can you trade firearms there? What types of firearms would I expect to find there? Mostly C&R or just about anything? Thanks guys?

OK to bring guns to the show?

I feel silly asking. I have a LTC A - no restrictions and may want to bring some guns to show in order to try on accessories, holsters, etc. Is that ok to do? If so, would carrying them in a backpack be ok? How about a briefcase. Anything else I should consider walking around with 3 guns +/- while at this show?

Thanks.

You can bring them, but they'll be ziptied when you enter. Their house, their rules.

You might consider weight and bulk - you'll be walking around a crowded room for an hour or two.

If you've never been.....

Suggestions for First Timers:

Last time I was at a January show, on Saturday, the doors opened at 9:00 AM. There was still a line to get in at 10:30.

Plan to spend at least 2 hours, just for a leisurely stroll.

Ca$h is king. There's an ATM at the back of the hall, but we all know what talks and what walks....and if you find something, the time it takes to fight the crowd in two directions and milk the Magic Money Machine may cost you a good deal!

If you're going to be looking for small stuff (like primers, or ammo) bring some plastic shopping bags.

Don't get all p!ssed off at the vendors not giving the stuff away - most have "real" businesses, and they're there to make a buck
Also, just because you think a given item is worth "X"...that doesn't make it so! [smile]

Know what the "real world" value is of whatever you're looking for...then you can make a better deal.

Keep your eyes open - you'll see a lot of cool stuff, even if you don't buy anything.

I'm going to print my avatar and wear it, kind of a secret NES password...so say Hi to MisterHappy!

See you at the show!

I'll be heading to the show, missed earlier this year, went the previous year...thought it was a pretty damn good show over there...looking forward to it...need a holster for my new waltherP99 .40 anyways!..Usually pretty good prices on ammo at the show?

does the guy will all the Nazi crap show up there? Fitchburg was my first and only show........ I'm all for military memorabilia, but that was more than just relics he was selling. I dont know, that just made me really uncomfortable

There are a couple of people with National Socialist Party items....what got me was the honest-to-goodness Skinhead I saw there last time: complete in all details, from the stompin' boots to the shaved knob. He even had a barcode tattooed on the back of his head! The guy up near the front in B row has always seemed a decent guy to me....

He was NOT a skin head as in Nazi. The barcode on the back of his head was because of the movie Hitman He was odd, but a nice guy.

Thanks for this - when you say zip tied, exactly what does that mean - will i be able to try the gun in a holster for example. Also, I was hoping to show someone my Rugar and see if there is an easier way to field strip in (I have to use a rubber mallet!). Things like that. Anyway, will the zip tie interfere with the ability to do those things?

Thanks to you and MisterHappy for the tips.

The rule at the show is, IIRC, that there are no loaded firearms in the hall. If you're carrying, and it's an auto, out with the mag and a plastic zip tie up through the magazine well. Not sure on a revolver, possibly blocking the hammer. You get the idea.

If you're bringing a long arm to try and sell, the same sort of deal appiles.

Don't take it hard - the exhibitors have the same strictures. [grin]

I got a question im sure many can answer for me...I plan on going to the show at the end of the month, just got a new Walther P99, I was wanting to look for a leather holster. Can I bring my P99 with me or not? Obviously unloaded, but I wasnt sure if it was something I could bring with me to fit for holsters etc. Thanks for your help ahead of time!

Any suggestions on what time and day will be the least crowded? I didn't bother to go last year. In 1989 I bought a ChiCo SKS for $99 and 1,000 rounds of ChiCo steel core for another $99

They will zip tie it throught the magwell. It might be hard to fit to a holster but it is worth bringing.

I went around 2pm on Sunday in September, and it was not too crowded. I think that I missed out on some stuff going so late though. I'm going Saturday around lunch time.

Yup, by 2PM on Sunday most vendors are all packed up and either out the door or getting ready to cart their goods to the trucks. Least crowded in this case also means the least amount of stuff to look at and negotiate over.

Least Crowded times (but while there's still stuff) :

Saturday, 1:00 PM. Morning crowd will have dissipated, and you'll have a t least 2 hours of all the vendors being there and open.

Sunday, 11 AM. First rush will have dissipated.

Many of the vendors will start boxing stuff up at 1:00 on Sunday. You might get a last-minute deal from someone who'd rather pack up some $ than some merchandise.

See you there![grin]

Marlboro Gun Show

Does anybody know if tables are available for the upcoming Marlboro gun show? I can't seem to find anyone to contact

Best way to pay at Gun shows?

Hello,
Do you usually get a better deal for cash at a gun show? This is my first one, and I'll be shopping for an AR - hopefully a Benelli MR1....

cash is king.

also, most of the tables will not have phnoe lines, so a credit card authorization would be a problem.

That being said, the larger vendors may be able to do a CC, but if that's all that you have, and the item you want is on the table of someone that is cash only, you're out of luck

It's kind of like carrying: Better to have it and not need it, etc....[smile]

If the gun shop or dealer doesn't offer you a deal for cash it often means you're dealing with a place that has a large enough margin not to worry about it.

You'll *probably* be disappointed at the gun show. A competitively prices shop knows they need to offer decent value to get people to drive to their place, whereas the prevailing thought at gun shows seems to be "with this many people, someone will pay top dollar".They're fun to browse, sometimes to pick up some stuff other than guns, but it's rare to find a deal on a gun at a show.

Really? I thought most people carried cell phones nowdays. While validation is usually digitial, I believe that many of the credit card processing firms offer voice verification to people without access to their terminal can call in to validate a sale.

Years ago it was mostly cash or checks (usually only if the dealer knows you).

These days, most have cc capability, usually via cell phone. BTW, if you really believe that most won't have phone lines . . . then you must also believe that most don't sell guns . . . since if they can't do a NICS check, they can't sell you a gun, there is no exemption for "no phone lines available" or "gun show loophole" unlike what the media tells us.

Cash will usually be king, but ccs will still get you a deal with someone who wants to move merchandise and prices reasonably.

Yea, there's deals to be had...but you need to get in there first thing Saturday morning. And as people said...if you're not in line outside in the cold 30 min before the show opens...you'll miss some deals. But, a lot of good deals will be done before the show even opens as one dealer likes something that another dealer likes...and they work out something.

I've been able to pick up things that way...good deal before the show opened...

Anyway, remember...Powder Keg...look for the table and stop by and say hi!

Pete?? What do you mean that you don't know yet? Shame, shame, shame!!

I stand corrected!

I know that the instant check for the sales went via cell, but was unaware that CC transactions could work in this type of venue that way, too!

Cool!

I've always used green folding from my discretionarly fund! [smile]

Can any dealers maybe give us a taste of what they might have at the show? Just a small list is all I ask.

Damn you, memberships to stuff, damn you to hell!

I'm in college, isnt my NES membership enough already? Ya'll gonna drive me to the poorhouse. And I've already rented a room there! [laugh]

Seriously though, looking for some good deals. Specifically on 1911's and .22 pistols.
