With the new laws that got signed last month, did they change anything with SBR's? There is a pistol i want to buy with the end goal of converting it to a SBR. Since frame transfers are a no-no now, could i have the pistol sent to a FFL to hold while i file the paperwork for the tax stamp. Once i get approval from the ATF the FFL holding the pistol could convert it to SBR configuration?
Thanks in advance

why?
a definition of a brace is more than fine to keep it a pistol. even if brace is actually more like a stock. :)
The pistol is a hk mp7 clone. They do not make a pistol brace for said pistol. Plus no dealer would do the transfer of it as a pistol which is why I'm looking to see if a dealer would hold it as a pistol until I can file paperwork to sbr.

Would the dealer be willing and able to transfer it as an SBR?

Did you ask your local dealer? That's where I would start.

I can't get it as a factory sbr so my only option is ffl takes it as a pistol. I get my tax stamp. Ffl converts it from a pistol to sbr then transfer it to me.

I get it, I was just wondering if converting it to an SBR fixes the transferability issue from the FFL's perspective.

Just called 2 ffls and it seems like neither will take the transfer as the pistol isn't on any approved lists for MA.
Welp There goes a dream firearm.

Adjust your dreams toward cmmg dissent. .223 they have in 10.7”. Ship upper to you door then use any lower on it.

An SBR is still a pistol in MA (NFA categories only apply for FED Law, MA law only cares about how MA law defines things - the state realised this some years back and that stopped form4 transfers of whole SBRs leaving only form1 of frames)

Also, you can’t form1 something thats in dealer inventory. The dealer/SOT would be the manufacturer and afterwards would not be able to transfer to you.

I’m assuming you’re talking federal law because you posted in general discussion. There were no new laws that pertain to SBRs.

Are you seriously going to buy a Tommy Built TP7? It would be more practical to light that pile of money on fire. Those things are garbage. Nothing against Bostic. I love my TG36K. That MP7 clone is nowhere near ready for prime time. Hell, I’ll say it. Even the actual HK MP7 is fragile airsoft garbage.

Can you SBR a pistol frame? I've long forgotten. LOL. I have this niggling thought in the back of my head that you HAVE to start with a rifle frame, but I can't telll you why.

Maybe I'm mixing up the "a pistol can become a rifle but a rifle can't become a pistol" silliness.

The SP5 is also a pistol so that must be wrong? But another question I’m thinking about is does an sbr in Ma still have to follow the feature test unless it was possessed on 08/1 and grandfathered. Or does the pistol aspect change that?
