My AK-47, thinking of getting this safety. Anyone have any experience with it? It holds the bolt open and is supposedly easier to reach one handed.

I just Dremelled the notch in both of mine. It takes all of five minutes per rifle.

I suppose that the little tab on the back would make it easier to work one-handed, but if you have long enough fingers, the regular safety with a notch works just fine.

if you show me yours.... I'll show you mine [wink]

Think I'm nearly done with this one. My phone camera does not do it justice.

Yeah buddy. That's a Type III Soviet Russia AK47. Yes. It's a re-welded parts kit, semi auto. Built in 1958 somewhere in communist hell (Izhevsk Mechanical Plant). Stored away until it was sent to the Arabs to harass the Israelis via the PLO resistance group. Eventually captured by the Israelis from the Palestine Liberation Organization, stored in an arsenal after getting stamped (hence the Hebrew proof marks), and then eventually cut up and sold to the US as junk when they cleaned house.

It's been through a few hands in the US, but I bought it for some dinero and gave her justice. Reunited it with a Type 1 Izhevsk bayonet, 1950's leather OTK stamped sling, and a slab-side Izzy AK mag. All are correct for this era of AK, even though ribbed mags had just been introduced by the Soviets in the late 50's- there were enough slab sides kicking around that it probably was it's primary feeding device.

The barrel looks like it was hardly fired- the terrorist that ran to confront Israeli enlisted civilians must have hit the pavement before the rifle did. Now I have it because America Is Better Than Everyone Else.

Great looking guns there Flint and Ron. I just picked up another one myself, but it's an AMD-65... parts kit. I think I picked up more than I wanted to chew. It has all the parts cept for the rivet kit... but nothing is drilled or pnned on the barrel assembly, ad of course all the parts will need to be rivetted to the new reciever.... the tools cost moe than the gun.. anyone have the tools, or will I be fabbing them.

post your queries in the "build it yourself" section. There are plenty of threads documenting how to build these parts kits. Boris and I have a few in that area. As far as tools go- you're going to either have to find someone in western MA willing to share or drive out to a build party. We held a build party in SE MA a few months ago. Keep your eyes in the member's section- there's always talk of another.

nice kit. It'll need headspaced, but beyond that and the drilling and pinning- it won't be that difficult. Tools will be your limiting factor.

You just won the internet, all the wires, and everyone's computers. Your collection just stepped it up a serious notch.

Right! And following with the traditions of communism I think comrade flintpid should redistribute some of his wealth its only fair and I'm sure Karl and Friedrich would approve! :)

In a planned economy every man, woman and child would have an AK to fend off capitalist exploiters.

Seeing what the receiver looked like when you picked it up.....to now.......I'm very happy for you, but extremely jealous for me. As nice/cool a firearm as I've ever seen (especially in this State). Great job Flintoid.

Thanks for your guys' compliments.

This receiver was half in the white, half finished. Using some advice from the guys at GFA Armstec, and some online Soviet AK Nutcase's advice, I ended up using Brownell's oxphoblue (liquid form) to finish it off after very carefully polishing it down. The application process was extensive and used cotton and steel wool as applicators. It turned out gorgeously.

I'm humbled by your ability, I'm curious was that a hot blue?

The blueing looks really good. That must have taken a lot of applicaitons. Very nice work.
