Taunton Rifle and Pistol Club

Heading over to shoot trap for the first time at Taunton, and have only shot one round total...I've only shot trap once before, so if you see a big dude with a shitty O/U missing a lot of clays, feel free to give pointers!

Has anyone used the archery range recently? I want to site in my bow but have never seen anyone near the archery range.

I volunteered to help the archery guy set it up because he had trouble lifting hay bails or something and never heard back. I got a 350 I've been wanting to use.

don't worry, you wont be the only one... my semi-auto misses plenty and no one cares. If I manage to get over this sunday Ill make sure to say hi... (look for the guy with the golf bag :))

Is it possibly to stop by and visit the range to check out the facilities? I've been thinking of applying, but would like to see everything first. I wasn't sure if I could just show up or would need to make an appointment or something.

If you want to check out the indoor range the Pistol Teams shoot there on Tuesday nights. The guys start getting there around 6:30 and probably wouldn't mind showing you around. I know they shoot trap outdoor on Sunday not sure what the exact time is on that.

Friday nights from 6 Pm to 8 Pm there are usually members from the E-Board at the club and you could take a look at the indoor ranges. If you are interested in seeing the outdoor range you could talk to them and try and set something up.

Does anyone know how long orientation is for TR&P. Besides rules & regulations, & a tour of the facility what else is covered?

not much that i can recall... its pretty laid back just common sense stuff and a tour. the part i remember best was the first aid kit its not for oh my god i just shot myself its only for boo boos folks! lol

I struggle to recall but I'd say 2-3 hours including the tour of the outdoor range... Bring guns and ammo as I didn't think to lol silly me! When u get to the outdoor range they'll be shooting skeet too btw incase u want to show off your skills!

Last I was told it would only be used for matches or something to that effect... But yes it's done...

So if I understand correctly, the club has well over 2000 members, none of which can use the 2nd, newer, updated, range ... I presume the funds for building the range came from the members? Doesn't sound right to me.

The newer updated range is actually not as big or as nice as the first one. And i believe it is reserved for the junior teams...while it was being updated it was closed for a long time with no bitching from the members. As big as the first one is and with 24 hour access by any member i cant see why anyone should bitch....if you dont like the way it sounds take a ride over and check it out.....

From what I think i remember hearing at somepoint from someone (so take it for what its worth) the new new range isnt actualy done yet. Still waiting on some air handeling equipment or some such. It was 'finished' enough for air rifle and controled team type shoots but not for 'open' shooting

I think so, I mean im not far im in the n.attleboro área, I know afs is right down the road in my town but id love to just be able to have a choice as to where to get time in, outside or in. Also from what Ive heard it does sound very nice not old & out dates either ya know

The new range is completed. The preference is to primarily use the "old" range as the backstop on the new range has a rubber wall style trap that requires a lot more maintenance than the water trap on the other range. If the old range is being used for a match or practice by one of the shooting teams, the new range will be available for use by members. This will decrease the maintenance costs while providing flexibility.

The new West range is available when the other range is being used for matches or club practices. You can find the info here, check the 6/2 update.
What's New

Thanks for the clarification. The 2nd, newer, updated range is open to members when the older range is being used. This is actually great news as a member who comes down to shoot may not be aware of range use and presumably be able to still shoot. Thanks again for all that helped clarify.
