Taunton Rifle and Pistol Club

Something similar happened to me last Friday.... I got there and there were two people shooting some type of reload and the amount of smoke inside was like the ventilation was not working. They left 10 minutes after I got there and things cleared up pretty quickly. I was shooting .45 and .22 with no issues with the ventilation....

I was there his morning selling a gun and everything looked fine. Some of the cheaper factory ammo smokes like heck as well. I have some Ultramax that smokes like a chimney and I need to karma it off since it will sit in my ammo safe until I croak.

That sounds right. Guy had been shooting reloaded .38s, but had only put about 20 at best down range, but it looked like he'd been shooting for a couple of days with all the smoke.

I was worried because it was looming at eye level so was clear below and a little above that line. Ran out to the main area to call for assistance and nobody was there and no emergency contact number except for the fire department. My friend said to call that, but without seeing flames or smelling anything burnt I wasn't sure. I know I don't want to be breathing unfiltered air that's for sure.

I stayed for a couple of minutes looking for a contact number and then I left.

Just wondering, I put an app in a couple of weeks ago and i was under the impression it would be reviewed at the May 5th meeting and i'd hear after that.
Can anyone shed light on about how long, as i understand i still need to attend the orientation before i can use the facilities. Thanks

should be pretty fast, From what I have been told you should be getting contacted before the next orientation class and asked if you want to come to that one or one at a later date.

See, told you guys! We need a better contact way than just leaving a message. If the building is on fire then I'm calling the Fire Department, but people were telling me to call the Fire Department and there wasn't a fire and I don't even want to know what would've happened there.

I think I did the right thing, but we just need some sort of informational hotline number and I can't ever make it out to meetings to suggest it. Can you please suggest that?

If you called the Taunton Fire Department and the building wasn't on fire, they'd look around, perhaps talk to a few people, probably wind up calling the president, Eric, then leave. There are several members of Taunton emergency services who are members. EVERYONE in the fire department knows how to get in.

The club voice mail is checked frequently. You will receive a quicker response by sending a message to president@tauntonrifleandpistol.org

As for 'no emergency contact other than TFD'...that's somewhat correct. If there's an emergency, 'call the professionals in the big truck with the sirens'. If there isn't an emergency, contact the e-board.

Thanks for the reply, any idea when the next orientation class is? I'm really dying to get out and shoot.

Yes. There have been several matches in there already.

Due to the level of maintenance required by the rubber brick backstop, the plan is to use it for overflow -- on nights when the junior rifle team has the east range, during pistol matches, etc. This was announced at the meeting on the 5th.

Orientation - it's always the 4th sunday of the month. Always. Due to the number of new members, the orientation has been split into two groups - it makes things quicker and easier.

Might be swinging by the indoor range Friday afternoon at some point. I am out at 11 on Fridays so probably sometime around 2 or so if anyone was going to be there.

Question for the trap guys...how busy is the thursday night shoot? I'd like to try, but the sundays always seem packed...kind of looking for a no stress intro...I bought an O/U for the hell of it, so I'd like to give it a whirl.

looking for local club to join, could someone tell me a good time to go by to check it out

check out before or after the monthly meetings. the next one is sunday june 2nd at 10, so stop by before 9 or after the safety class (at 1130) 2ish?

other then that, just give a shout on here, someone is likely to be going at some point and can give you a tour

I'll be down at the outdoor tomorrow morning doing some shooting with my mom for her birthday(she asked ME to take her, surprisingly).

If you're there, I'll be in the black SUV, and will be sporting my playoff beard. should be easy to find us.

I'm joining!

Thanks all that have contributed to this thread. It's helped me remember how great the Taunton Rilfe and Pistol Club is. I was a member many years ago .. about 20 .. and haven't shot in a long time. I'm ready to get back into it and enjoy the club.

As I understand it, I will have to wait until the end of August, which is fine... honestly I don't know why I waited this long!

If possible, can someone PM me if they will hear the names at the next monthly meeting? My sponsored member won't be able to attend.

Thanks and I look forward to joining everyone!

Cheers!

don't worry about it, about half the applications read don't have a sponsor (I know I didn't) and I don't think I have heard of many (or any) being rejected so its just a waiting game for you...

This is my experience as well. I did have a sponsor but I've never heard of anyone being turned down.

And wait I shall... thanks for the feedback! Look forward to meeting members and saying hello! [wave]
