Taunton Rifle and Pistol Club

New range? I thought the indoor range was pretty new?

I'm thinking of joining this range now that I live in Taunton. Can anyone confirm if a .223 AR rifle can be used at the indoor range? While not a deal breaker, it would be nice to be able to practice with the AR during the winter and not have to worry about the weather.

I must of printed and filled out the application form half a dozen times by now. But I always finding something else to spend the money on. haha.

They are replacing the lower range with one that is just like the "new range" so they both will be new.

And no .556 or .223 at the indoor, you could get a .22 conversion kit and use that though.

You cannot shoot .223 at the indoor range.

my wife and i are looking for a club, and this looks great! We're in Attleboro, and it's not a long drive for us. Do they allow Pyrodex black powder in the indoor range?
Thanks!

I seriously doubt it, the ventilation is good but not that good. Call Eric at the club and verify but my guess is that the other members would be pissed if you started shooting black powder indoors

I doupt the air system will be able to handle it, but ask the BOD... There should be some email addresses on the web site. Remember there is a black power/ archery area at the out door range though.

No, no pyrodex. Black powder is acceptable on the indoor range, and yes the air system can handle it. See the range rules, section 6.4 -7.

As far as 'which' indoor range, I've found it useful to refer to the range under construction as the 'West' range, and the snail equipped 13 position end as the 'East' range.

Edited to add - as others have pointed out, no centerfire rifles on the indoor range!

Thanks for the info Bender. I didn't know there were multiple indoor ranges. I definitely need to check the place out.

In the beginning, there was a range. After 6-10 years, the clubhouse was added. Between 2005 and 2007 -ish, a larger range was built on the east side of the clubhouse - 13 lanes, radiant in floor heat, snail backstop, good lighting, more storage, etc.
About a year ago, the original ["west"] range was closed, stripped of all useful bits, and demolished. Without changing the footprint, a new, better range has been going up.

We also have an outdoor range, 5-6 miles away, in Raynham. Yes, it can get a bit difficult to keep things sorted out. Naming conventions are going to be more important as time goes on.

question, has anone had issues with the new lock at the out door range? I was just there about 1740 or so and I couldnt get the lock to turn off, it would just beep once and the light wet back red instantly... Btw sunset time isnt until after 1900...

FYI I have been told that occasionaly there is an issue with the card reader after heavy rains

next stupid question...
Can you use air rifles on the indoor ranges? I would assume you can, but I want to make sure. I managed to talk a freind into at least starting with one while hes waiting for his LTC and he wants to bring it up next time I take him to the range.

Second question I think I know the answer to... Is there anyway to get a .40 carbine 'approved' for indoor use? I am a little confused about the use of the terms 'caliber' not cartridge's as it uses standard .40S&W pistol cartridges. Again I assume carbine are a no-go no matter what but I figured I would ask just in case.

You can use air rifles and you can't shoot any center fire pistol caliber rifles at the indoor range.

So are there any members here that belong to this club that could provide some current information. I might be looking for a new club to join...

I've heard some good things about this club...so it would be good to hear from some current members.

I have been a member for years and the club has grown quite a bit . The indoor range is state of the art , you can shoot 22 cal thru 44 mag. They are in the final stages of another addition. The out door range is located next town over in raynham. Has 1 lane for 300yards about 8 to 10 100 yard line couple of 50 yard lanes. Also can shoot clays as well on weekends. You have 24/7 access to the indoor range only. Its a good club. Hope this helps

The East range [snail backstop] isn't limited to .44 Mag. Here's a list of approved calibers.

Essentially, no rifle cartridges permitted.

I'll be there tomorrow morning sighting in my evil black rifle on the far left 50yd lane in my evil black SUV, if I can get it. I plan to be there EARLY to set up.

Hi all.

1. Just a reminder, NO EXPLODING TARGETS. Anywhere.
2. May meeting this Sunday
3. Sig P220 in 38 Super winner will be drawn at meeting.
4. Safety course to follow meeting...so, if you need to go through the clubhouse from 11:30-5, please don't bring your range bags through the 'classroom'.

I don't get this one. Range bags? Classroom? I was planning on going Sunday.

Great. Show up. You're a member, use the range.

There will be a safety course going on, which will very likely be taught in the clubhouse proper. So, if you're coming in to shoot, enter through the main
door, bang a right turn to the east range, use the range.

When you are through on the range, pack up and exit.
While the safety course is in session, please don't try to carry all of your gear with you from the range, through the clubhouse, to the bathroom to wash your hands.

There were a few tickets which didn't sell, but the drawing was held on May 5th. Tickets have been $5 each.

The next firearm will be a Fulton Armory FAR-15 target rifle.

Just wondering, I put an app in a couple of weeks ago and i was under the impression it would be reviewed at the May 5th meeting and i'd hear after that.
Can anyone shed light on about how long, as i understand i still need to attend the orientation before i can use the facilities. Thanks

Anybody know why the indoor range is full of smoke and nobody is here?

No emergency contact person either.

good job guys!
