What did you do in the reloading room recently?

i mentioned in other posts i was going to start loading 7.62x39 range ammo. when i bought my 7.62x32 rcbs dies, i got the regular fl set but wondering if i should have got the small base set instead. i have limited experience loading for semi auto rifles so not sure if i'll experience the extraction issues that should be caused by not sizing with the small base die. i figured full length sizing instead of just neck sizing would have solved that. for what it's worth, my 5.56 reloads are just full length sized and function fine. any thoughts.....
Load a few and try them out. Only way to tell.
I’ve had some guns that required the small base and others that didn’t.

I'm thinking about trying to load a classic super quiet suppressed 9mm round. There are lots of opinions on the internet and I wanted to see if you guys had any experience. I want to use 147 grain FMJ bullets with a super fast burning powder so little or hopefully no combustion gets into the silencer which should reduce the sound. Anybody have experience with a load like I've suggested?

yes, will do that.
my dies will be here saturday if my favorite delivery service, fedex, can find the house. and i have a little time, my star line brass order is backed up a la blue bullets. they're not saying how long the delay will be. anyway, my hunch is they will be fine but when i start thinking... [laugh]

You should be fine. I thought anything that shot a 7.62x39 was chambered as to replicate the hot dog down a hallway principle.😁

lol, yeah....not concerned with my arsenal ak, it's the ar type rifles. i have in my mind tolerances would be tighter on the american manufactured product. maybe not, might be "ak sloppy."

Why not run some with the FL and see what they do. From my understanding the small base isn’t always required.

With 9mm? , no experience there.
Suppressor? Don't own one yet.
Loads that will barely cycle a slide? I'm your man

Beware, soot city. Even with fast burning like titegroup. I'd think you'd be just as likely to foul that thing up with soot after a few rounds.
I took a .40 down years ago just to see how low I could get. I think I got down to one grain w/ 165's.

Would waving a match or burning off all the O2 in the suppressor get the desired effect you're looking for without taking a drive to Squib-town?

titegroup, you will find data in any manual
WST (winchester super target) you probably wont find any recently published data, 3.2-3.4g is what I load for my SBR and pistols (not suppressed but these are the softest shooting loads evah! )

Thanks for the input. Dan, you note soot city and this is an issue as suppressors make everything dirtier. I'm not too worried about FRP as much as going for a quiet subsonic, its generally accepted that the faster the powder burns the quieter since the gases are already cooling as they enter the silencer.

Titegroup seems to be the consensus and there is a decent amount of load data for that powder. There are a lot of people talking about loads using Vihtavuori (VV) n320 which I have actually never heard of before. Lots of claims that this powder produces a very nice subsonic round. To my surprise its available on Midway so I ordered some to play around and compare to Titegroup. Thanks for the input.

Edit: Damn that Vihtavuori (VV) n320 is expensive!

Titegroup burns quick, but it burns hot compared to the rest of the double base stuff.
And strangely enough, the lesser the charge, the hotter it gets and the sootier it gets, so you'll have to find that magic number.
With .45 and 230's my magic # was 4.6 gr.
N320's probably the cleanest burning stuff out there, really popular stuff.
Not that I've tried it, but Sport Pistol seems to be popular with 9 shooters.

Good luck with it, waiting for results. Pics/ vids or it never happened!

Resized trimmed and de-burred 20 308win rounds for some load development for my old man. We got some Midsouth Match Monster Hpbt in 155-168-190 to mess around with. I’ve got some re15 and varget which should I try first?

Both will work great. I use Varget now over RE15 just because it seems that Varget is actually easier to find. After the previous run on ammo, it took forever for RE15 to come back.

This is a local gun shop out in the county that I have been using for years for bullets. If you can't find bullets its worth giving them a try I don't think you will be disappointed. I know they coat them on premises, I'm not sure on who makes the bullets. This is 9mm in stock and they ship too.

Wow! Kind of surprised to see the interest in .44 these days. I'm simply going to have to pick up a Henry or something to blow off all of the .44 ammo I have left over from Redhawk days. Can't seem to find any local interest in 240g LSWC and other odds and ends that are still hanging around. I guess I should load them up and shoot them off myself. Either that or somebody please bring down their Henry, Marlin, Deerslayer, whatever and make some noise...

This morning's local gunshop purchase. [smile]
its out there you just have to look.
Back when I could waste a saturday , I plotted all the gun shops to my garmin ( there was a thread here on NES ) it would alert me if i was close to a gun shop. That was great.
i dont get out much now but i need to find out how to get my phone to alert me of gun shops with X miles of my location when Im out and about.

I was going to make the drive down to Westport to pickup some powders, instead I spent the morning at urgent care with my son who was coughing up a lung all night. Some meds, a negative covid test and we're at home resting.
all 3 of my kids have asthma. Any caugh now is heart stopping. They have slowly over the years have less and less episodes. Every change of season brings it on....
Stay well and god bless

As I try to pop off a magazine or two daily, I reload about as quickly as I empty them, but not in great quantities. The 145g JHP from AR has been my bullet of choice of late. It was available back a few weeks ago. They seem to run just fine, but I suspect they are plated, not jacketed. No matter. They seem to be something along the lines of the Hornady HAP bullets.
Now to get my camera to focus...

The 625 ate them up
The 97- not so much. Brought 100 or so of plated 230's for that (1.230)
Had the whole pit to myself, and just one other shooter down at the rifle range on the opposite end.
Good times were had, and I didn't have to "People"
What issues did you have? Wasn't going into battery? I had a issue with bayou bullets that if I didn't seat them all the way down to the top of the shoulder they would chamber in my 45c.
