What did you do in the reloading room recently?

Just finished 1000 9mm. The turret press started indexing, or not, erractically for the last 100. Never happened before and there was no obvious cause. Troubleshooting will likely have to wait until after Christmas.

I have a Lee Classic Turret press. Haven't graduated to progressive yet. The Lee has performed flawlessly for about 6 yrs. I usually clean and oil it every so often. I checked the indexing clamp and it looks fine. Further investigation will have to wait.
Finally got around to checking out the press. I "dry" ran it and all seemed okay. Loaded a few hundred 9mm with no issue. Really strange that it ran erratically for the last 100 of 1000 rds. before Christmas. I will still take it apart, clean and lube, but I wish I had found a root cause.

I loaded a thousand 9mm this morning then went out to run errands. I started cleaning the loaded rounds (about 300 at a time in the tumbler) and I found I had a new jug of walnut media, so I dumped the old stuff in the trash and used the fresh stuff... So shiny , I don't think the photo does justice
Wait, you tumbled live rounds? That's like shooting .40's out of a Glock. How are you not dead?

I use a home made alcohol / lanolin mix. It doesn't really need to be cleaned off, but some of the loaded rounds will feel greasy and it only takes 15 minutes in the tumbler to get them clean and looking good.

Somebody will say you don't even need to lube pistol brass when using carbide dies.... I say try it. On a progressive press the lube makes the sizing so much smoother, and I have a better feel for what is happening like successful decapping, or immediately feeling one of those stepped cases . Its one part of the system that makes banging out a quick thousand rounds seem easy.
I agree on the lube. I do it for 45 ACP.

Tumbling after loading pistol ammo gives +10 PF. So it is definitely not a waste of time.

A little 38 and a little 357

Been a long time since I was at the bench has to knock the dust off it (literally) this morning. Hunting season and holidays are behind us so time to get cranking out the bullseye league stock ready then start building up the spring plate banging supplies. 20240114_075235.jpg

Got most of the bugs out of the new to me 9mm 650 w bullet feeder and reloaded a few hundred rounds on the converted .45 press.

Your space looks like you cleaned it up nice since last post, nice setup. I'm in process of moving my loading bench and re-organizing, building shelving etc. Such a process especially moving bullet boxes around. Wife has now "seen behind the curtain" and kept asking, what's in that box, and what's that? Every reply: yes, it's more reloading stuff!

Rearranging allowed me to see how much 556 I actually had.

550B Never had a problem before. I switched the base plates for 9mm and had alignment issues that pushed primers partway in and got jammed.
Weird. Just a baseplate swap?
Have you checked your machine for alignment with the alignment tool anytime recently? That’s a good thing to do.

I switched from N320 to CFE pistol on my 9mm reloads. I made 100 rounds to try, 5.1 gr powder with RMR 124 gr flat point FMJ @ 1.100 very pleased with the results. I will be cranking out more today.
I have just started playing around with CFE Pistol, and really only because I was starting to run low on Power Pistol. So far when I get near the max book data loads, I'm running about 80fps slower than I was with Power Pistol.

But this is what I have so far out of a P228.

5.4g average 1073, SD 37, high 1132, low 1010, ES 122
5.7g average 1119, SD 26, high 1172, low 1092, ES 80
5.8g average 1096, SD 22, high 1132, low 1070, ES 62

Just loaded up a couple hundred of 5.9g. Haven't tested those yet.

One thing that caught my attention at the last steel match I ran with Power Pistol was as I was reloading between stages, one of the guys watching asked the range officer why my loads were so much louder than everyone else's 9mm. So, I guess that powder is kind of loud. I usually compete with double earpro so I kind of don't notice.

Yes power pistol is very loud and flashy. I used it in 7.62x25 and in 9mm many years ago. It was a very accurate powder just flashy which I kinda liked 😂

Yeah let's be real here. I'm not running around dressed in black shooting at bad guys from the shadows. I'm going to the range to make loud noises and fireballs. :)
