What did you do to your firearm today.

Finally got my youngest son shooting pistol for the first time today. He's 11, and only shot rifles till today.
After a hundred rounds with the new 1022 takedown we bought together on our way home from the Statehouse the other week, we pulled out my old S&W 622 and spent about an hour shooting it.
He worked his way up from one round to a full mag.
He did great, doing everything himself, on both the rifle and the pistol.

just got this delivered yesterday, I was getting sick of packing 4 cases everytime I wanted to go the range. this lets me get rid of 4 keys (that all look Identical)
down to 1 on the key chain too [smile]

Played musical optics putting a new t36 on my savage 223. Then this happened

Yes those are cascading sun shades on a Mossberg patrol 556 for dramatic effect

Cleaned my Dan Wesson PM9. I can't even remember the last time I cleaned it, probably 600+ rounds ago. I noticed it was getting dry and wouldn't lock back after the last round so I figured I would give it a good cleaning. It's a very tightly fitted gun.

Talon Grips and Drop In Ready SS Guide Rod.

I haven't shot it yet, but it sure racks a lot easier.

the shield has a pretty short overall slide travel and a light slide, which is why S&W implemented a stiff dual stage spring. installing a lighter spring may worsten the recoil impulse. i also wouldn't assume it will cycle everything as reliably with a lighter spring. steel guide rods is something i just will never understand. my mileage. others' may vary.

----

in terms of what i did today, shot the following at 300 yards on 6" steel plates:

16" PSA upper - 280 rds PMC 55gr
Ruger american ranch bolt action in 5.56 - 90 rds of Am Eagle 55gr
Savage 10-FCP in .308 - 80 rds of ZQI 147gr FMJ

the wife shot all three and was shwacking steel all morning. the boys at the range were impressed by her (as usual).

Yeah, I'm thinking I will take the OEM spring assembly next time I go shooting. Only takes a minute to swap them and have a basic side x side comparison. The SS sounds good in theory, but your right only hands on firing will really tell.

Yesterday we shot at BR&P. My Wife finally got to shoot her new Ruger 10/22 with the peep sights, while I shot 3 handguns.

Today I'm the volunteer coach at MF&G from 12 to 2PM for any members who show up and want help. It's a new program put into place at the club thru early October.

I took my Glock 17 and one magazine to a vacant hillside in rural NH and fired 16 rounds for practice. It was just time to get reacquainted. I carry it 24/7 in VT, and I hadn't fired it in awhile.

Found this screw while sweeping the garage. It is used to hold in the pivot pin detent and spring. Lost it awhile back and remembered going into a mini-rage looking for it. Would be awesome if I could find all the other springs that have flown across the room at light speed.

That's a lot for just messing around at the range. I shot the following today and I was beat afterwards:

Handgun: 120 rds of 22LR
Handgun: 40 rds of 9mm
Modern Sporting Rifle: 50 rds of 9mm
Modern Sporting Rifle: 50 rds of 223

So I work from home. I have a cannon printer/fax/scanner for my personal laptop....so I usually just set my gun in the tray but the other day I slid the gun all the way in with two mags and closed the tray door. You would never know it was there. However, when I told my 12 year old to search for the gun and mags....clever little thing found it in about a minute....lol It's a great hiding place because both the gun and the printer are black so nothing conspicuous about it for the unsuspecting.

Finally cleaned up my second safe, cleaned, oiled everything and finally figured out how to stack AK/AR magazines efficiently, lol.

Changed out the ammo in my carry mags because I scored some federal hst at Walmart. I wish I could say that I made a range trip like some of you guys! Hoping for next week.
