What Happens when a state house loses its soul

I appreciate what GOAL has tried to do in MA. But it was an ineffective organization long before COVID and this latest round of tyrannical legislation. The MA legislature has been abusing, restricting, and trampling long before that. But only in the eyes of the minority. For the majority in that state, government is being leveraged democratically to accomplish what the people want.

I’m not sure COVID has changed the behavior of the legislature. The legislature in MA answers to its voter base. The majority of that state supports its behavior. If anything, the pandemic strengthened the resolve of the people in that state to empower this authoritarian government in a way that government wishes to be empowered. Not only is it not held accountable. It is encouraged by that populace. The people are getting what they democratically desire.
You have eloquently stated a truth that the vast majority of gun owners and supporters of the Constitution have been in denial of for a long time.

Im no fan of government....

MA because is a severe one party state with no boundaries and no checks and balances at all. They basically realized during COVID that that there is no reason for them to be present, other than maybe a vote now and then. They can fxck off all they want and no one cares. They are true political hacks.

I mean its down to the levels of MA Wildlife where dealing with the lady from the Youth Pheasant program is a totally useless do nothing job.....yet she still does it very poorly, and our person that runs it on our side deals with all the legwork. And has gotten so pissed off dealing with the state we will no longer have a YPP anymore. That and the gun law thing put the kibosh on it for the last time.

I do think in other states and places isn't so retarded and they do have people keeping them in check when they do stupid things. It isn't so easy for them just not to show up. Some place also have some ethics and do want to work for the people. Generally not democrats.

I noticed differences in NH, FL and Carolina's that government is run much more efficiently, and the jobs aren't a do nothing, lifetime appointment with a full pension and health benefits.

No f***stick, this is what happens when you build the Seaport below sea-level (like New Orleans).
All this screams of is...we need taxes or money to fix what should have never been done in the first place.

But there's rich libs there, you'll need to fix this on the taxpayer doll.

Just like they should have never made a Tunnel to Logan but built a new airport on the 495 belt instead. They will never do what's right.
They will use your money for what serves their purpose and not the general good of everyone in the state. Good luck.

Jim, do you know if this is confined to MA, or are most states doing the same thing?
I'm afraid I already know the answer.
I would say it's always happenng at some level in all governments. We don't, as a species, operate nearly as. . . . honestly as we'd like to believe. It's why Washington's greatest moment was stepping down after 2 terms. The guy had integrity that is inconceivable in government today. Step down????

But. . . . . .

While this happens everywhere, mASS is Phi Beta Kappa. We are teh kings of stepping on rights and taking power not enumerated to us (as government).

Just look at the pushback on the audit. WTF,O? The people spoke. Shut your mouths and let the auditors do their job. And either race to the Caymans or hope they don't find your specific scam in their review.

The problem - people vote for these morons. Machine democraps. Even if I liked one, I'd not vote for them. Although, it woudl be hard for me to like one. It's to the point, if Adolph Hitler ran against my state rep, I might vote for Hitler. LOL

I'm sure that's an exaggeration, but probably accurate to the number that actually do some work once they do show up. Ever go into the bowels of a government building? Visit the MA DOR building in Boston or any of the subsidiary department offices and you'll be in shock.
Ive worked at the one in...chelsea? The big ass one right outside of boston. The entryway is beautiful...the offices... should be condemned lol

They learned that, other than elections, they didn’t need us and no longer had any desire to deal with the citizenry.

Being honest with the students, I put to them that they were going to have to figure this out. What we are facing as advocates is brand new. The Massachusetts State House has become an empty vessel. I stressed that their generation was going to have to figure out how to access public officials that don’t want to be accessed.

I think you answered your own question.

I'm reminded of Scriv's adage: What you tolerate, you validate, what you put up with, you deserve.
Historically, sooner or later they'll push too far, and the people will revolt. ...

Like in the national 2024 election.

That’s a bug not a feature. Kill the youth programs and you kill the future gun owners of Massachusetts with the goal of ending gun ownership in Massachusetts.

This is what losing our rights looks like.

If I were governor I wouldn't have closed MCI Concord, I would have poked holes in the roof then move the entire general court over there.

Then I'd delouse the Capitol building and turn it into a museum.

I tried to call the IRS earlier this year. It was impossible to get to a human on the phone.

Here is a link with the details:
My daughters job (tax accountant) requires she talk to IRS employees on a regular basis. She says it’s nearly impossible to get anyone and regularly delays submittal of a clients tax forms.
When/if she does get someone…they don’t know s**t.

Approved substandard construction and concrete 🤔

[popcorn]

So you want more government involvement in residential house construction??? Making sure pyrrhotite does not make it into concrete involves more government regulations/inspections/costs because there is no way anyone inspecting a poured foundation would know this is in the concrete. This is a civil issue between the private builder and the private concrete supplier but sure, let's ask the government to step in.

Here is where pyrrhotite can be found, if you're buying/building a house in any of these areas you should make sure the concrete supplier tested/tests for it in the stone, etc. used to produce the concrete. Home inspections should include examining the foundations for related issues or go so far as to determine where the concrete was sourced. Stop relying on government to be your safety net - when people ask for more help from government, government is more than happy to oblige with new regulations, new fees, new positions, etc.

The usual

Graft , corruption, bid rigging… all the standard MA SOP

LOL dude, this has nothing to do with public construction, it involves residential house construction and is a civil issue between the builder/foundation contractor/concrete supplier and the homeowners.

The Mass legislative body only cares about constituencies that serve them- the fringe left and voters in the crime ridden major cities.

I am pretty sure that person from the Youth Pheasant Program is a volunteer/intern, or, at best, a seasonal position paid minimum wage (and no pension benefits/credits, or benefits whatsoever). Many MA Fish and Game "employees" are contracted seasonal (again, with no benefits) and they are always looking for volunteers for these youth programs.

This is data from 2023:
"Highest salary at Department of Fish and Game in year 2023 was $144,924. Number of employees at Department of Fish and Game in year 2023 was 426. Average annual salary was $65,075 and median salary was $67,133."

NH, Florida, and the Carolinas, along with every other state, have public pension systems that are pretty much equivalent to MA.

In MA, the health benefits end at 65 (you have to go on Medicare), they are not lifetime and the employee have to pay their portion of the health insurance up to that time. I am sure other states are the same.

No, they only truly care about themselves. Look at all the roadblocks they are putting up to prevent an audit of themselves - they've got a lot of shit to hide, guaranteed.

There are some fair points here but you seem to be missing that it's not democracy at work to ignore the Constitution and very recent Supreme Court Rulings. This isn't sort of gray, they just don't seem to care.

And even, maybe even especially, minority interests need representation and a voice at the table to avoid getting completely trampled by the tyranny of the majority.

It absolutely is consistent with the democratic mentality, which is that the majority rules. The majority has the authority to exert its authority over the minority, is the modern western democratic point of view. This is why they view the constitution as a living breathing document, and something that is outdated and necessarily changes with the majority’s progressive ideals of the modern times, rather than limited or bound by the principles that the country was founded upon. It’s not true that democrats view the constitution as something that they should be bound by rather than be bound by the will of the majority. The will of the majority is inherently linked with what they consider democracy.

And even, maybe even especially, minority interests need representation and a voice at the table to avoid getting completely trampled by the tyranny of the majority.
Minority interests needing representation is the reason we have a constitutional based representative republic and not a democracy. A constitutional republic is founded on the principle that the minority has certain rights that cannot be democratically taken away by the majority. And the founders knew this. They knew that democracy always results in the oppression of the minority, and the eventual loss of rights of the minority. So they built a constitutional republic. And that’s what we are ever trying to defend from the democracy.
