Zero Hour Arms

ZHA is known for being heavy on the EBR stuff.
I've only been in there twice and bought a 1971 vintage Marlin 39A from them on my second visit, which had been sitting there in the rack for months.
I said to the clerk "I'm surprised this is still here, I saw it a few months ago last time I was in"
He replied "it's not an item that sells real well here, our customers like the black rifles".
So I guess I'm the oddball who buys a lever gun from an EBR specialist. [laugh]

I bought My S&W model 410 from them with 2 10rd mags and 75 rounds (50 ball ammo 25 Self defence) for about $380 +/- thats not including the 5 extra 11rd mags I bought the next day for another $100

Overall very nice guys (yes they love there Spay and pray rifles) But hey so do I.

Will definitely be doing buisness with them soon as i'm looking for a good mid level AR15.

I will say i wish they had a website. Shit if they contacted me I would run one for them. For a small fee[wink]

they have one, Zero Hour Arms just not much in the way of products on it...

Yep, maybe the got it during the rush, also look at the classfied here 30 is going rate

Really, it's not. Gouging prices on 9mm is $20/box. Several stores have it in stock for this price right now.

ZHA has some cool stuff, but their prices are definitely not in line with many other places. I could see a "Mass tax" on the harder to find items, but I don't understand how some of the more common stuff would ever sell.

The stuff on the shelves in that place only last days, people by it, no stupid waiting list to buy a shield or bodyguard, them have'em in stock so lets see should i go to four season and wait 3 months for a shield or paya little extra and have it today

Also the 9mm they have has no problem selling at the going rate

I would go to Mass Firearms in Holliston and buy the one in the case I saw the other day if I wanted one.

The point is their prices are high. If people want to pay them, so be it, but the point of this thread is to let people know and if they want to spend a few minutes calling around, they can probably score what they want for a lot less money.

Do they have them in stock???

at the moment I don't think so, but there is a reason they sell out and zero has them on the self because they charge almost 200 more, that's price gouging to me ill wait till fs gets next shipment...that's just me if someone wants to pay it that's there business

You also have to realize FS buys hundreds of the popular S&W's at once ands gets a lower price than any other dealer. So his price should be much cheaper as his cost is much cheaper.

I do...but I do not agree with that much of an increase there are other smaller shops that there around 475

My .02¢

I went there once, when I knew little about guns, ammo ect. Total newb. I had bought my first gun (pps in 9mm) elsewhere and unloaded about 500 rounds of fmj to practice. Once I felt comfortable enough to carry I went to zero hour and asked for "the best" self defense ammo, being naive and trusting them. He handed me two boxes of wolf hollow points and charged me $50 and change. Goes without saying I was taken advantage of and will never go back. I do understand its my fault for not researching and it very well may have just been the one employee I dealt with, but I'm all set with that place.

Also glad I found NES to get some real knowledge.

This stuff?

Wolf Gold Ammo 9mm Luger 147 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point Box of 50

Very similar if not that, but 2+ years ago per crazy prices. Saw it for $18 at FS months later. Not the best self defense ammo either, ya it will do the job, but I asked for the best, and didn't mind paying for it. I guess his opinion was Wolf makes the highest quality self defense ammunition on the market. I felt like I was taken and don't trust that place, that was my .02¢…

Might have been all they had? Ask them by name "Speer Gold Dot, Remington Golden Sabre, Hornady Critical Defense", etc.

Possibly, I know better now. Sometimes its hard to shake a first impression.

Understandable, we all learn as we go. I ended up testing various ammo types and settled on the ones that performed well for me.
Having said that - did the ammo fed well, expand, retain weight, and chrono well?

If I can play devils advocate for a second here. If I walk into a car dealership and say "I want the best thing you got" and they give me a Ford GT500, but deep down I'm a Chevy ZL1 guy, I'm going to be disappointed. I don't think it was someones fault for not being able to read a clients mind. If the ammo performed well, is it just the brand name that turned you off?

I did try it out, gave my buddy one box for his Beretta m9. No negative feedback from him but I think I had a jam with my PPS, which might not have been ammo at fault (I hated that gun lol). I think a more appropriate analogy may be a Ford GT500 and a Chevy Colbalt. Yeah they will both get you where you want to go, but clearly the Colbalt isn't winning many awards. (No disrespect to any Colbalt drivers.)

Wolf JHP is decent ammo, its wolf gold, just because its not fancy looking does not mean its not good,

I bet russian polive have it in there pistols

I agree, the store is overpriced, and I feel it preys on the newer MA shooters who don't know better, or just don't know where to get some of the pre-ban or "scary" black rifles. I've been in there when the people working there were pushing a POS ancient bushmaster on a guy and the price was insane, I wanted to punch someone. But hey, it is a free market country, so who am I to step in. I have shopped at ZHA before I figured stuff out and realized the prices were insane, never planning on shopping there again.

Also, if you want to trade a gun, just punch yourself in the face repeatedly before going to ZHA. Really. For like 30 minutes. Then list it on here. Because the guys at ZHA are insane, and will give you $1 for anything. My fav was when a buddy wanted to trade a completely decked out SOCOM II with cluster rail that they offered $1000 in trade because "it isn't popular". He took it down to Four Seasons, took off the cluster rail, and Carl traded it even for a "Loaded" full size NEW M1A ($1500 at the time). He then sold the rail online for another $400 by itself after a feeding frenzy. I was present at ZHA when the guy was BSing him about how the SOCOM wasn't worth $1000, hilarious. Similiar things happened when attempting to trade handguns, they will lowball you at 50%, even if they have THE SAME GUN IN THE SHOP LISTED AT 2X PRICE, USED. Once again, they are free to price however, but I am also free to not shop there or trade things. Other stores charge much much less overhead.

If you are desperate and they have what you want, go there and buy it, but know you are pretty much getting fleeced on a lot of stuff. Not everything, I have seen mags there for cheap (though they were sketchy, pretty sure not pre-ban, those guys play pretty lose on rules, especially when stocking MagPul stuff a while back).

Just wanted to post based on my experience and price knowledge. Raving about how great a store like this is always cracks me up. Just because they have nice stuff doesn't mean they aren't murdering you on the price compared to other stores. Obviously stores like FS have much less overhead on certain firearms, so know what is available and where. You are always better off buying on NES.

Also, don't even get me started on how the owner of ZHA had some little private war with the Ames gun range leadership and sent out a bunch of bitchy whiny emails to members about how they should elect him. Like I give a two sh*ts about the politics at the range?! I don't need to be getting such UNSOLICITED emails, if I wanted to be involved in that sort of thing I'd go to the meetings. Not sure how he thought it was ok to email us with dirt slinging crap about the current officers, with whom I had no problems (since I actually saw them there all the time when I went to shoot, and they were friendly). My mind was completely blown. I quit the club since seemingly they give out my email address to people like this, who then flood me with garbage. And I def won't go back to ZHA due to pricing and the BS emails he was sending out.
