Zero Hour Arms

It certainly isn't your average gun shop. I never go in there with the intention and expectation of buying something. It's more like a visit to a museum. It's entertainment of a sort. But if you do happen to find something you want at an affordable price (a rare occurrence!), all the better.

I almost bought a vintage (preban) Norinco AK there years ago. Always wished that I had. Too bad that I wasn't better educated at the time. The asking price seemed high at the time, but I later figured out that it wasn't that bad after all. Live and learn. [thinking]

Same here, bought some awesome guns there, including a preban polytech milled reciever ak. There was a G3 I should have bought for $2200 years ago, but didn't, like a moron.

Only shop I ever saw an HK PSG-1 complete kit in. Never saw anything like it once it was sold.

Also saw two matching Clayco black bakelite prebans. Pretty rare and unique stuff.

I had a very decent experience there, they seemed to have a bunch of Sig stuff (some used) in good condition for reasonable prices at the time.

Stopped in a couple weeks ago. Very pleasant staff and quite knowledgeable. Lots of real cool odd items and even was handing out pastries. I plan on stopping in again m

With the coffin case. Of the time I had spent there, that was one of the top 3 coolest guns. Just being able to pick that gun up and pull the trigger made my year. That's the type of gun that you may only see once or twice in a lifetime.

Yep, same for the Soviet dragunov. Touch it once, you won't see it again!

I bought that PSG-1 from ZH. I sold it back to them a couple years later because I didn't want to have any guns I didn't shoot. It was the pride of my collection while I had it. I didn't fire it of course. I did finally shoot an unfired P7M13 though. I also bought an NIB Hungarian underfolder AK from them. I liked those guys. I miss a shop like that here in WA.

in my experience at zero hour i dont think things have changed

and the reasons in previous posts
just my 2 cents,opinions vary

I left a couple of unfired items to put on consignment. Picked them back up and saw that they were fired and dirty. Also had buggered up parts from being disassembled. I just go to their suppliers, before they add 300 to 400 minimum to each item.

Dude, you were like the HK king. LOL I remember when you first saw it there. It was like a kid seeing his dads porn stash for the first time.

I had a good experience there last week. Guys there were nice and I got a couple not so common items. It was my first time there so I enjoyed walking around and looking at their inventory. Before I went down there I called to make sure they still had what I saw online and the guy made sure they did and confirmed the price over the phone. I'd go back based on my experience.

I don't know if it has changed. Next time you are in there check your IPhone and the name of their wireless network. The name will give you an insight into the personalities that you will be dealing with.

Yup. I can't imagine the look on my face when I walked back in after getting my wife to agree on dropping 12 large on it. That was a good day. I had a lot of good days at ZH. Heck, next week I get reunited with my Micro Galil and B&T TP9 SBRs, picking those up was another great day at ZH.

Okay, so I've been in here twice.

The first time, I went in looking for a specific AR and a youngish guy, mid 30's maybe, black hair, wearing kind of a bowling shirt, helped me out. Great guy. He talked to me about what I was looking for, showed me a few things in my price range and we talked about ordering a specific AR but wound up not doing it yet. Overall it was a really good experience.

The second time I went in hoping to order the same AR and I started to walk over to the bowling shirt guy and an older heavier guy, with what I think was a Russian accent, asked if he could help as I walked by him. I told him I wanted to order an AR, and he kept telling me it would take months to get it, and that the item I wanted didn't exist even though I've been checking it out for months and had talked to the other guy about ordering it (yes they have a Ma version), and just kept trying to sell me guns on the shelf that I kept telling him I didn't want.

So I gave up on that.

I also wanted some basic gunsmithing done, I wanted a barrel threaded for a muzzle brake and a new buffer tube and stock put on an AR and pinned. I told him what brand of rifle it was and he said it was a POS and that they won't even touch it, followed by, "I hope you didn't spend over $700 for that" which of course I did, since it's a $1,000 gun, even at FS where I got it for the cheapest price around. I told him yeah, I did spend more than that, and that was about the end of the conversation. We were pleasant to each other the whole time BTW, neither of us was rude, angry etc.

So in a nutshell, I walked in there and tried as hard as I could to spend about $1,800 and the guy drove every cent of that business right out the door.

Maybe I'll go back someday, Maybe not.

Same thing happened to me a couple years ago, 1911 with holster and other accessories on consignment. When I went to pick it weeks later most of the accessories were lost and the 1911 had been fired and never cleaned! Luckily I still had the receipt for the holster and was able to get them to reimburse me.

Which guy is Don, it that the old guy, the really nice Grandfatherly type?

I see a lot of bad things written about the place and I haven't had anything but good or at least neutral experiences there yet.

I never had a bad or really rude experience just walked out of there many times shaking my head?

As for Zero Hour, I had not been in there since 2010 when I went back in 2014.... lets just say I feel like its a different shop...

thats the life i want, to be so indepently wealthy that I can tell people in my shop that i dont want to sell to them... I guess thats the advantage of having EBR's that no one else in the area has and charging an arm and a leg for them.

I know right? The used and lever action rack could use a 25% or even 10% off sale to clear it out and make room for some fresh inventory.

On the other hand, they were passing out 10% off coupons (good for that day only) at the gun show in Braintree last week and I didn't take advantage of it.

10% off the 20% mark up for the day.....? most of the used gun inventory wouldn't sell even at 25% off....

You're talking about a different shop. It was Hunter's Trading Post that was at the BR&P gun show and handing out 10% off coupons to use that day only in their shop.

Another great purchase at Zero Hour Arms! These guys are great. They are more than willing to show you any gun you'd like to get a closer look at. Brian went above and beyond to help my girlfriend and I find the right CCWs for us. He went over several different options and gave us solid advice for a good hour. He ended up special ordering me a pistol and it came in the next business day!

This is by far my favorite shop. Well worth the 30 minute drive from my house. If you have not checked this place out since the change in ownership you should definitely stop in. The new owner, Alex is very friendly and seems to be making some great improvements.

Sir,
Thank you for the review. I appreciate the fact that you mentioned my staff. We have a good team here and I am very fortunate. It's a pleasure for us to serve those looking for their first or hundredth firearm. We've been expanding our ammo, optic, light and firearms selection. However, we know that sometimes you want something we don't have in stock. We make every effort to find what our customers want and if we can't facilitate, we will point them in the correct direction.
We look forward to continuing to serve your needs.
Welcome aboard!

A new review thread really needs to be started for this business, and this existing one kept as historical reference.
The ownership is new, sales approach revised, and service offerings have changed quite a bit.

I'm in the middle of a UMP conversion and spending my kids college funds on HK rigs. I walk into the shop yesterday and ka-pow, there's an SL8 hanging on the wall:

Talked with Brian and Alex a bit, discussed my plans, got the gun with 2 mags out the door $200 cheaper than anything I've seen on Gunbroker. Win.

I see a G36K in my future....

Thanks! Glad you were able to find what you want and enjoyed your experience. I think you'll be happy once you find the G36 kit you mentioned.
Good luck with your project and I think it is a good idea to start a new review thread seeing as there has been a change of ownership.
Stay safe!
