Depends on the state definition of “committed”. One can be in a mental health facility voluntarily, and not trigger the prohibitor. There needs to be a court hearing with opposing council for a committal to happen. I’m guessing this didn’t happen, as he would have become a prohibited person and got his shit confiscated, unless he got an MD note clearing him.
