Good or bad I’ve been buying ammo that will only increase in price as the years go buy. Lately I’ve picked up a good amount of GP11 at a decent price. Every time I see this come up for sale the price is higher and higher. Soon it’ll start to reach unobtainable status. Thinking that will be a good time to start selling it off. I know literally nothing about playing the investment, gold, silver, bitcoin markets so I feel comfy doing this.

Anyone else bulked up on hard to get ammo?

Took some friends shooting yesterday. Two of them are in the Army as intel folks.

They asked about the cost of ammo now? They both have been overseas for 2-3 years.

You should have seen their eyes open wide!

The young man loves shooting, as does his wife. But they were stunned to learn that every pull of the trigger of 5.56 cost 50-60 cents.

Yeah, it's nuts out there.

I try to shoot my ammo, but I’m also a big believer in “buy it cheap and stack it deep.” My goal is to go through my reserves but I have some higher end hunting and competition level .30-06 and .308 that I bought for 50-60% of current prices that might never get used that are taking up space. If I could find the time to properly scope in my rifles, then maybe I’d get around to using them.

I can’t imagine selling my 9mm mak stockpile, even though I only have 1 gun chambered in it but I could certainly make a profit IF people are willing to pay what it’s been listed for online

I have a sufficient amount of 9, 5.56 and 7.62 NATO and should have sold some at the height of the last panic and I would have a nice new truck right now lol

While not “rare” much of it came at pre Newtown pricing and it seems to be coming down more (at least 5.56 and 9mm)

But I wouldn’t have a sufficient amount of ammo

@Reptile has been doing this for years.

I learned that lesson after the Clinton era ammo and reloading component panic.

I haven't been impacted by any of the shortages since then.

I don't buy ammo for the specific reason to sell it for a profit later.

Not sure what GP11 is, but if it's decent ammo, it's good for a long, long, long time. If it's for a gun you own, I guess if you time the market right and sell at the spike, then wait for market to stabilize.

I have a small lot of silver I've been holding onto for a while. Every time I look at the price, it's not much higher than what I bought it for, and any 'commission' would kill any profit. I would assume ammo is kinda the same. If you want a crazy profit, buy bitcoin and play that game. At least if you time the swings, you can make some real money.

edit: Wonky Swiss caliber.

There is no such thing as selling off if you're actually a shooter. That's the dumbest thing ive ever heard. Unless you don't own a gun that fires it anymore.

The only way I'd ever consider selling off ammo is if I had ammo for some gun I was going to get rid of or had already gotten rid of, and had zero intention of filling in the void
again.

Also the money of gains off a few cases is not going to be life changing. It's not even worth doing. Now if you have pallets of stuff, then I could understand. Hence my constant comments about forklift based ammo management... [rofl]

It’s Swiss made ammo that shoots extraordinarily well out of Swiss made WWII rifles. It was plentiful for a bit but as it always happens, it’s all dried up. A small case that you could have bought for $150 years ago is going for over $600 now.
Yeah, I tend to hit 'post' before googling. If you have a gun that shoots it, why sell if it's doing nothing but going up in price? Maybe if there is a legit scare and ammo goes crazy, sell off one of 3 cases. If you never shoot the gun, keep one case and sell off two in a panic situation.

If it's $600 now, with no outside pressure, and you can't replace it easily, it's probably never going to be cheaper than that $600.

Plenty of things to invest in that are easier to store, insure, and (legally) sell if we're looking at this solely as a monetary investment.

The whole impending CWII/ Wuflu shortage and Sandyhook fiasco kind of woke me up to market conditions.
Now I'm much deeper with factory ammo and can cast my own bullets.
Reloading components for thousands of reloads.
From 12ga down to 9mm I'm covered for life.
Oh wait there's that 450 Bushmaster.
Note to self: Dies and molds for .45

Got up with plans to head North up to a good gun shop I know located in the Rochester area that advertised a huge
ammo sale due to a estate purchase they had made. Ice storm in northern mass, not bad enough to stop me but had to
pick up a grandchild first. Picked him up and called to make sure, wanted .45 cal By 1030, (they opened at 10) it was
ALL gone. Was not for an investment, I'm a shooter, but man that hurt! NEVER HESITATE!

I have several hard to get calibers I don’t have a rifle for and prices just increase. While I don’t have a pallet of GP11, I have a very good amount and only in rifle in that caliber. If I want to shoot it I use the PPU offering. Not as accurate but not expensive.

Call it stupid if you want but when I do sell I expect I’ll clear into the 5 figure area. Not bad for letting something sit.

If it clears room for what you do shoot or funds something you want I’d absolutely sell it

While its value will probably increase more over time remember the dollar also ain’t worth what it was when you bought it

So a gun guy passes away and his stockpile of ammo goes cheap in an estate sale. And an FFL cashes in.

That is probably what is going to happen to most of OUR ammo stashes her on NES.

Anything that gets sold for estate sale $$$ was most likely not a good investment. Because that is what the people buying it are doing, making a short term "investment".

I shoot a lot every month and try to keep a lot on hand. Split cases with friends that don't have enough to invest in a full case too. I don't mind adding a half case every so often. :)

And before you ask, my "a lot" isn't the same as yours and likely not as much...

It's still not going to be life changing money off of one or two cases, honestly buying PPU to not shoot GP11 you already have is retarded.
