Bodyguard 2.0

I was sure that I wanted one ............... then I tried it at Manchester Firing Line and was sure I didn't. It's not the soft shooter some of the reviews make it out to be, and it's difficult to rack the slide if you've got strength issues (which I do). My opinion is that it's a good gun, just that it's not the solution for folks with strength issues or hand disabilities.
That has not been my experience at all.

Post that Range report on that LCP max when you can….. curious about it
It's not even a comparison. The Bodyguard 2.0 blows away the LCP Max. I have two LCP Max's, the Custom, The LCP2 and the LCP original. I can't fathom trying to take someone who shoots an LCP Max and then immediatly shoots a BG2 and then tells me "The LCP Max is better" as someone being truthful. It's not like a "Oh I like Glock Grip angles vs 1911 grip angles". It's a "This gun is extremely accurate, easy to shoot and doesn't recoil" vs an LCP that is not accurate, has a shitty trigger and the recoil is painful. I specifically use the LCP Max as an example to new shooters as to why smaller guns suck to shoot and as a preparation as to why they shouldn't be afraid of my bigger guns. I can't do this with the Bodyguard 2.0. It doesn't suck to shoot.

What's the Custom one?

Anyone have any suggestions on a holster for the new bodyguard 2.0?
At like 14oz fully loaded it can't require anything too serious for IWB carry.

Thanks

I have the LCP Max but had the issue with the trigger finger getting pinched, and needed to change to a Galloway trigger to fix that.
I also put in the stiffer Galloway recoil spring which makes the gun less snappy, but it might make it slightly harder for some to rack (but not a problem for me).
Also added the Pierce pinky extensions to the (10 round) mags which gives you more support when shooting.

That said, I did fondle the BG 2.0 at the store and it felt pretty nice. I'll have to try and compare at the range, it could be a good step up.

I grabbed one last week to replace my Bodyguard 380.... the new BG 2.0 is light years better than the Gen 1.
My only real complaint is the sights.
Guns shoots to the left right out of the box... I pushed the front sight over a bit but not enough.. It's better but still not on target.
and the Unotch in the rear sight is way too big. There's a ton of day light on each side of the front sight when the sights are lined up.
Drives me nuts.

XSsights makes the only replacement set for the BG2.0 I could find and they had a 30% off sale for presidents day so I ordered a set.

We'll see how they work out once I get them.

But even with the sights issues... the BG2.0 is a winner and my BG380 is already in the back of the safe.

DAMN! Just tried the BG 2.0 loaner at the range and it put my (tweaked) LCP Max to shame, now I am going to have to buy one!
It was very accurate at 20 feet and easy on the hands, recoil wise, I could have shot it all day.
The trigger seemed much lighter than most of my other guns and actually caught me by surprise a couple of times (fat fingers too).
Due to the light trigger I am leaning towards getting one with the thumb safety, even though I am in a free state, as it will likely be my full time carry.
I have heard that the slide and safety on new units will be stiff, and needs some running to loosen up (there are also tweaks that can be on the safety spring).
The follower on the 12 round mags may also need a minor mod so it does not catch on the cutout on the side of the case.

I also tried out a Sig P365-X (9mm) but was not overly impressed. It seemed a good deal snappier than my older Springfield XDS, so will stick with the XDS for now, for the house gun.

I am so very tempted to get one of these as well. I held one a month ago and it felt really nice in the hand. Haven't shot one though

I posted back in October when I bought mine and found the front sight off centered. I have it centered now but I still shoot left a bit. it's definitely me.

Got a Bodyguard 2.0 2 weeks ago. Cleaned it, re-lubricated, brought it to the range this week, multiple failures to feed and the slide catch broke. Another S&W gun, another disappointment. When will I ever learn?

Sucks to have bad luck. My story is 100% different. Ive run well over 50,000 rounds out of all the m&p semi autos 9mm, .45, and 380 with zero issues other than the shitty factory triggers and one bad spring. Cant wait to put thousands more down my latest two 20241129_115608.jpg

None of these small guns are going to be perfect, especially when being made to the price point that they sell for.
For feed issues I would take a close look at the feed ramp, some are reported as not getting finished correctly. Send it back to Smith to get it fixed.

EDIT: Look for a lip on the lower half of the feed ramp, on the frame side:

If you want a small gun to be perfect buy a Glock 42

I have been super impressed with mine, honestly kind of blown away with what they were able to do with this thing. It’s way smaller than it looks in photos. The trigger is shockingly good, it’s way more accurate than it should be for a gun this small and handles recoil really well.

All of this BG 2.0 talk has *forced* me to buy one and sell off my LCP Max :)

I just ran 200 rounds (150 PMC FMJ plus 50 Fiocchi JHP) through it. The gun was new, uncleaned, and stock except for LakeLine Pinky Extensions on the 10 round mags.
The FMJ ran flawlessly, and is what I plan to run to ensure penetration. The JHP had one FTF and had issues with the slide not locking back on empty.

This is a very comfortable gun to shoot. I don't think I could run 200 rounds in the LCP Max in one session without my hand falling off.

The only issue I see with with mine is that the last round is very difficult to load in the 10 round mags.
If you do manage to get 10 rounds in, the mag will not want to lock in place with the slide already dropped, which means cannot "top off" to 10+1. (can do 9+1).

See below for my shot profile (standing, no support, mostly 2 hand grip with some single strong hand).
It seems to shoot down and left about 2" at 20' (target has 1" grid squares).
I am no marksman but I do not believe that I am pulling it, as I train on another pistol with a laser to get rid of that.

To raise the POI I am thinking of filing the dovetails on the rear sight (not the slide) and adding some shim stock underneath to raise it.
The math shows about 0.038" change at sights is needed to move POI 2" at 20' (verified with online calculator).

I will also plan to add some orange paint to indicate "fire" mode at the thumb safety.

Enjoy!

I've been carrying pocket guns almost every day for 3+ years.

I started with a Seecamp, then the P3AT, then the LCP.

Then I owned a Kahr P380 and a G42 at the same time.
I sold the g42 because even though it shot great, it was too big to be an "always" gun for me.

I still have the Kahr and carried it along with the LCP Max I picked up a couple of years ago.
The Kahr is still the smallest quality pocket gun you can get that actually shoots well.
The max was a bit more chubby but held 10 rather than 6 in the mag.

I now have added a Bodyguard 2.0 and the Max is being sold. The bodyguard is better in every way other than trigger. I don't know what others have gotten, but my Max's trigger is great. With a nice smooth rolling break. (crisp is stupid when you are trying to shoot a gun with a 5 lb trigger fast)

The max has a huge distance between the bottom of the slide and the back strap. All that stack height doesn't exist on the bodyguard.
Because of this the Bodyguard can be the same height as the max but with a MUCH longer front of grip. It allows me to get my fairly large hands on the gun with the pinky on the grip.

The gun is as much fun to shoot as the G42 but is much smaller and holds 4 more rounds. And it's as small as a LCP.

I really can't comment on reliability yet. I'm running my slightly underpowered reloads through the gun to break it in. I've run one mag of hollow points through it and had one failure.
One thing that people need to understand with these tiny guns is that they need to take the time to find ammo that the gun likes.

My Kahr has a failure to feed about every 2 rounds with Federal HST, but runs flawlessly with Hornady XTP or Underwood loaded with Extreme Penetrator.
I wouldn't be surprised if the S&W is a bit ammo picky also.

One other thing, I really wish S&W would just charge $50 more for it and use properly machined forged parts rather than MIM.

I have been carrying a 380 pistol every day for years. The Diamondback 380 is my favorite pocket 380. It’s incredibly reliable for a cheap pocket pistol. I have found with the right holsters however that I can carry my Glock 42 just about as easily as the DB no matter how I am dressed…So the G42 is my EDC and it’s much more pleasant to shoot than any pocket 380 I ever had
