Healey pauses plan to release beaver into the wild: ‘We're going to protect Nibi'

MassWildlife had originally said it planned to release the 2-year-old beaver on Tuesday morning

Tuesday was meant to be deadline day for Nibi, as the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife told the wildlife rescue organization that has been caring for the 2-year-old beaver that it would be released into the wild.

However, the state said Tuesday morning that they would not be coming for Nibi at 9:30 a.m. as originally scheduled. Exactly what that means for her long-term future was not immediately clear.

Jane Newhouse, who rescued the one-pound newborn beaver on the side of the road in Sturbridge back in 2022, said in an update on Facebook that MassWildlife had informed her in an email that they will not be taking Nibi on Tuesday. She added that an emergency injunction has been filed against the state, and she is scheduled to appear in Lowell Superior Court on Friday.

Gov. Maura Healey pledged to "protect Nibi" during a media availability Tuesday, saying she halted MassWildlife's plan to release the animal into the wild.

I think that term is generous. Felon in waiting was used to describe the legal limbo of “we choose not to prosecute 20 years of legal sales”. Call it what it is, when the law is effective they are straight up felons. Period. There is no grace period or legal gray area.

You're not a felon until a court convicts you of a felony.

I'll be very curious to see whether the Commonwealth ever lets that happen on this statute.

First off…. The emergency preamble, if it happens is he way of getting out ahead of the to neuter what we can buy so there isn’t another fiasco run on items that would be banned when the law takes effect.

Second- they are afraid to actually convict anyone because an appeal could go to the top and potentially overturn their constitutional violation of a law.

My guess is they will threaten freedoms and get those impacted to agree to a plea for no jail time so this never sees a challenge.

Imagine, Maura protecting a beaver!…who’d of thought ;)

I don't know but wouldn't not being able to buy a single long gun in this state be a simple trigger for lawsuit? Obviously a clear 2A violation, even in MA?
I mean even during covid when the state tried to stop gun shops from opening, a judge stepped in and told the state to f*** off and allowed shops to open.
Yes
And it would be wise for a 2A lawyer to file something with the courts stating that fact right away the minute she signs her so called emergency preamble.

What she should be signing is a veto to this bill but unfortunately we have a Communist elected official 🙁

You are missing the point.

It is not even 8am.

What do you mean by market manipulation?
Good question. Has there been anything official from the lesbian? A gun store with a YT channel posted a video, so we all ran to the Mill to act out our best impression of 8/1 again. There is one online article, but they probably watched Cape Cod's vid and jumped on the bandwagon for clout.

Didn’t her spokesperson say it, and the globe ran a story about it?

I didn't run to the Mill.

Not everyone who works on Beacon Hill is anti 2A. There are people in the know who are willing to share information in order to give us a jump. But based on this news article it seems it’s official now anyhow.

Stop that nonsense. It is a gun store conspiracy to get us to spend more money.

See, they have all this inventory they bought for like $10 and want to sell it to us for like $200, but they didn't have enough buyers so they got Maura elected and paid the legislature to pass a law. But that wasn't enough, they wanted to increase their prices and wanted to do a month worth of business in 2 days, so they called Atilla for ideas. Atilla told them to lie about Maura signing a preamble, and here we are.

"Rescued"...."protect"...... it's clear that these city slickers in Boston don't know, or appreciate, what it means for a WILD animal to be wild.

If the animal needed to be rehabilitated, fine. But the goal should always be to rewild that creature. Not make it a pet. Mass Wildlife is best equipped to do that. So of course, the state's not going to follow their advice. Who cares about what the actual experts think, let's let our emotions dictate policy.

These creatures existed long before our society. They will continue to exist long after we've destroyed ourselves. If you want to help these creatures, truly, then the best thing you can do for them is leave them the hell alone. Focus your efforts instead on protecting their habitat. Dispense with the notion that we need to pave from Boston to Los Angeles in the name of progress.

What a joke it is up there, end arounds to shit on the democratic process always.

Well....still worth the work getting the petitions signed.....

In honor of her cxntship's signing, I built 3 EBR's yesterday out of parts I owned in MA that were never technically guns in MA.

FXCK YOU MAURA!

So far nothing but blatant market manipulation.

It must be akin to reloading for the sake of reloading.

80% firearms finished by the owner have no paperwork, no serial numbers. They're not on anybody's list.

ETA:

People load rifle ammo to get PRECISION.
I load pistol ammo because it's relaxing and convenient. I'm shooting GA state Saturday. I don't have to go to a store to buy ammo, I'll just grab an ammo can out of my garage. The rounds in it are consistent, make powerfactor and cycle all my 9mms. Over time, there's probably a cost savings, but that's not the goal. The goal is to have the same ammo and plenty of it.

Are they sure they didn’t misspell “Nibi” and it is not actually “Nimby”? Just asking for a friend…

The folks that are preoccupied with the safety of the beaver apparently never had one (or more) in their backyard walling off the local stream and flooding the neighborhood… lol. But it is par for the democratic course I guess.

Ok boomer
What the fxck does that have to do with it?

Anyone that's been paying attention for the last 60 years knew this shit was coming. My kids who are Gen Y or whatever 25 years old went to college, left and never looked back there because of it and other illegal alien, and money wasting anti freedom stupid bullshit.
