Favorite Books or Authors

Adding to my original two(Vachss & Rankin).

I've always enjoyed Clancy & Ludlum as well. I haven't read any of Clancy's newer series though. Op-Center??

On the older side; it's tough to beat Dashiell Hammett.

I'm thinking more like Charles W. Henderson,Adrian Gilbert, Craig Roberts, Charles W. Sasser and of course my favorite, Roy F Chandler, though I've only read one of his books, I'm pretty sure we're distant relatives.

I've read a couple of Sassers. I liked him too I'll have to remember to get some more by him. I know I have weird tastes in my reading,my music is just as bad.

Believe it or not, my Mom, in her '80's, has read Senich, Sasser, Henderson and others. A little unusual for her age.

As far as music goes, I definitely DON'T act my age. I prefer 70's and early 80's rock, yes some of it is Heavy Metal.

Alan does the heavy metal, death metal (I call it) then he also likes bagpipes, and country. One that he listens to I don't mind too much is Drop kick murphy's.

I'm a little more Mainstream, plus I like German music (Skorpions) and Irish music (U2), as well as Ozzie, Van Halen, AC/DC, Bad Company, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Foghat and numerous others. I took the wife to an Aerosmith concert for her birthday a few years back, and when I was asked if I liked it (they KNEW she did), I answered "Not bad for soft rock".

I also like SOME Country, and some other stuff that's off genre.

I like U2,Glenn hates them though. He thinks my taste in music is weird anyways. I like classical(12 years of playing violin did that), I like oldies rock, country, about the only thing I won't listen to opera and rap.

I usually(depends on my mood though) listen to country, but I found when I was going back and forth over the bridge to Amherst I would put in one of my classical tapes. Found it much more stress free that way. Could deal with the idiots a little better.

Driving doesn't bother me. After my first trip to Germany, I finally got my first US driver's license. New Jersey, no less. Mass drivers don't have anything on Jersey drivers in the Philadelphia, PA area.

Glenn did the driving in Berlin. I no way wanted my license there. Granted the Krauts had a method to their madness, but no way couldn't make me.

I've got a pretty eclectic taste in music as well, from rock to Celtic to classical. Give a listen to Black 47, a great New York Irish bar band. They made it mainstream for a while, but they don't seem to tour around too much any more. (I can host a few mp3s for a little while if there's an interest to download)

Learning to drive in NJ was fun, driving in rush hour down there for almost 15 years makes everything else seem mellow. :D

I hear that, I like classic rock, gothic, & 80's hair, I love Deep Heavy metal such as Pantera, Slayer & Old Metallica. But when I am stressed from being over whelmed there’s nothing like Ennio Morricone, Beethoven or Pachelbel. If some a**h*** cuts me off and does like 15 mph under the limit then I need some heavy stuff to depress some of my rage.

I don't know...I've seen some really maniacle drivers from RI. They can be a bit scarey. Jersey-ites are nuts tho too.

Try driving a tractor trailer through downtown Frankfurt, during Rush Hour. Now you know why traffic doesn't bother me.

I can see what you mean, I'm always impressed with the truckers who maneuver through NYC.

Glenn got to do the 4 ton dump through downtown Berlin, since some Col,from Berlin Brigade didn't quite understand what we did and thought we needed to participate in their war games. So we humored them just once.

I like most types of music (except for rap - <insert wretching sound here>), but I'm most fond of bagpipes, Celtic music, Classical, 70's, 80's and some 90's rock n' roll and some heavy metal, and C&W. There's a few disco ones that bring back fond memories, but I'm not crazy about all disco. I just can't get into some of the newer stuff that's out there.

Alan tries for the mohawk, but more a nazi look I'd say. White combat boots huh. Wore em long enough in the Army, although I always told Alan when the kids say your mother wears combat boots you can say Yes she did.

Heh. Boston drivers think they're so tough. Bullsh*t! I learned how to drive in North Jersey and there are NO drivers ruder (or more skilled) than NYC drivers. They have to be good or they're dead!

But New Jersey drivers are better... we've got NYC on one side of us and Philly on the other! They're lunatics in Philly. :-)

Duke Ellington once said "There are two kinds of music. Good music, and the other kind."

I agree, and that's the kind I like to listen to: Bach, Mozart, Beethove, Puccini, Bizet, Gershwin, Hank Williams, Dave Brubeck, George Jones, Charlie Daniels, Clannad, Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, heck, I've even got some CD's of Tuvan throat singers I enjoy. Whenever I'm tempted to draw more lines that Ellington did, I remember Sturgeon's Law: "Ninety percent of everything is crap."

Hmm... somehow we went from books ot music here.

OK, music I listen to is: Oldies (50's-70's), some 80's (not much), classical, broadway show tunes, celtic, bagpipes, celtic harp, anything composed by Georg Philip Telemann, some jazz... and, of course, the obligatory country.

Funny story about that... 6-8 years ago, my wife asks me if I'd like to go to a two-steppin' dance iwth some friends. I walked in and started listening (and trying to dance) and suddenly realized... Hey, I forgot that I like this stuff! (I'd learned to like country while working as a security guard around 1980 and all I had was an AM radio to listen to while on post)

So now I listen to it all the time... and Kathy is slowly learning to like some of it... but I think she really wishes we hadn't gone to that dance. :)b

As Glenn would tell you I got to torture him with country music from here to Missouri and back. I figured I wouldn't totally do him in with classical (I did have some with me) He listens to the old rock. He'd probably tell you it was 4 days of hell for him. [lol]

First I would like to say that if you have not read the Da Vinci Code, you should great book.

I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. I also got his first one, Angels and Demons. I liked that one too.
