Good basic AR stock? B5 or CTR which would you pick?

I used to use LMT/B5 sopmods on everything and then went back to the tried and true CTR.

The #1 reason is because of the enclosed latch on the stock, if you shoot off rear bags often, especially with big bore gassers like an SR25, youll quickly find that the open latch on b5 stocks will get depressed by the bag, this will send the occular lens of your glass into your face at the force of recoil and ruin your shot, so, not great.

The CTR is also lighter and works with some of the aftermarket things i like like the Arisaka angle adapter and Larue RISR.
Dang now that's a go to war and cap a taliban at 500 yard gun

I’m a big fan of the Rogers super stock myself

He's got the wiggle on the MOE that came with his new PSA driving him nuts. Fixed would solve that but not having an adjustable feels too ban state cucked for him. Has to be adjustable.

You’ll have to be more specific on the B5 stock… Car15, bravo or sopmod? Your friend should be deciding what fits their face better.

And all adjustable stocks have at least a slight wiggle to them otherwise they’d be difficult to actually adjust.

Most adjustable stocks wiggle a bit.

Get some aluminum duct tape and layer it on the buffer tube/receiver extension so it fits as you’d like. Takes a few layers and a few min. But the results are worth it.

I do that to all my builds. Wiggle be gone.

Fixed stocks are for true sniper rifles or cucks. Be a sniper or deal with it.

There shouldnt be noticeable wiggle on a properly specced buffer tube/stock. Certainly not enough where you need to put tape on it. I tape my buffer tubes off when i paint my rifles because it makes the stock too tight.

Commercial spec tubes arent really made anymore, the MOE stocks will slightly wiggle wheras the CTR is tighter and locks, hence why i always go with a ctr.

I have all three.

B5 SOPMOD on my SPR. I found on higher magnification I prefer more surface for cheek weld repeatability. For GP rifle with a LVPO, I use the B5 Bravo. The LVPO has a more forgiving eye box, so having less surface area for the cheek weld isn’t a big deal. On my SBR I run the CTR. Pretty much any AR pattern rifle that I run just a dot on, I’ll use a CTR.

Help my buddy decide on an adjustable stock for his new AR15 build - narrowed it down to a B5 or a CTR. I prefer fixed stocks myself because I run a magnifier + dot combo and like that exact position to get the eyebox I'm used to. Those of you who run adjustable, what do you recommend as a solid value stock? Thanks
Either the B5 SOPMOD or the Wilson/Rogers super stock.

My b5’s wiggle too.
The only one I have that doesn’t is my larue.
Any tighter I’d marry it.

I just picked up an MOE-RL we'll see how it goes. I was an idiot and got a carbine buffer setup when I had a spare Magpul fixed rifle stock.

Oddly enough, of 6 larue stocks I own, the loosest came on the complete rifle.
The rest, as you say, are marriage material.

For some strange reason, I can NOT stand cheek rest stocks. I feel like my head is tilting too much and im 17ft away from the butt of the rifle. I prefer regular stocks and a nose to charging handle sight picture. I have a ctr.

CTR is my go to.

The DD stock looks cool, but if you have a lean build, the buttpad is not very comfortable against the body. It’s made for body armor, fat people, or people with muscular pecs.
Every DD comes with a larger buttpad that you can put on. I haven't tried one, but I'm sure it might help a bit. I've been accused of owning the entire DD catalogue, and I'll confess that I've never changed out one of their stocks. I like them. They work for my small but broad frame. I also use them with *gasp* a beard, and I've never had it get caught or snagged on my hair. Impossible if you ask the internet, but they work for me.

The problem is the buttpad slants down at an angle, so if the rifle is parallel to the ground, it digs into the body unless you have something protruding, such as body armor. It’s not really a huge issue but I find the straight buttpads more comfortable.

I just picked up one of Magpul’s new DT stocks (dual tension). Excellent basic stock with a single lever that ensures solid lock up and no wobble. Usually I’m either a basic CTR or B5 Enhanced SOPMOD fan.
