Hi all,

Here is my situation. I've got a P365 X macro Tac-Ops (no integral comp) with a Parker Mountain Machine barrel / comp installed. My reloads have always been on the light side and it has not cycled with the comp installed with the light reloads.

I recently bumped the loads up to the max shown in my reloading manuals and tested again. No signs of excessive pressure and the gun is still short stroking on the recoil cycle, and failing to extract the brass completely.

This ammo always runs great in a non-comped guns.

I know that a Chrono would be helpful to see if the rounds are actually "hot" as far as MV is concerned. But I don't have a chrono.

Max is 5.8gr. I'm thinking of bumping to 6.1. Thoughts?

Specifics are
Brass - mixed range pick up
Primer - CCI small pistol
Powder - AA5
Bullets - Precision bullets 124gr poly/teflon coated swaged lead bullets. I've always used reloading data for cast lead bullets.

Any wisdom is appreciate.

p.s. I need to run this through pro-load, but my PC died and I haven't reinstalled it on a windows laptop. Its pc only and I mostly use a mac

you can try the factory ammo. but not all factory ammo is the same. it sounds like you need a lighter guide rod spring!

My comped rig cycles with some factory ammo but not others. a lighter guide rod spring is what was needed.

Chrono your rounds. You reload and you don’t have a chrono? This is like trying to screw a hamster with a pencil. In the dark. And the hamster is on uppers and you are on downers.

You will find that your are prolly below 1000 fps on those 124 grain bullets which will not cycle with a good comp.

If speed is ok - your comp is just that good and you are oversprung for it. Try a lighter spring.

Ha. My chrono broke (because I shot it) about 3 years ago. I've been using this load for probably 12 years.

I held off once Labradar came out, then the Garmin Xero. I was ready to pull the trigger on that then Caldwell came out with their Velociradar at SHOT. It not only indicates velocity straight out of the muzzle but at multiple points downrange. So you can derive your own ballistic coefficient.

Yes, paralysis by analysis.

Need to isolate the cycling issue , is it gun , handloads, or gun mods ? AA5 is a slower powder for 9mm and the 124 bullet is heavy. Maybe load up a small batch of a more common 9mm speed powder (HP-38 ?) and 115's .
I was thinking that. I use AA5 for heavier loads of 9mm. Light loads of AA5 smoke like black powder. Ha. I've got some clays, bulls eye, and Accurate 2. I may give one of them a try.

Also, slower burning powders tend to work better in comped guns because they continue to burn and provide more gas for the comp to work with. That was my logic. Ha.

I'd try the factory ammo, and if that doesn't work, I'd reach out to PMM - they are great.
Yes, they are very easy to work with. The funny thing is I've got their comp on one of my base 365s and it's run fine from day 1 with my reloads.

Start looking for a new bullet manufacturer. David Long closed his doors. ;-)

I was able to stock up. He told me late winter 2023. I used to call for orders because David gave me 10% off if I ordered more than one case at a time. So I bought 3 cases of 124g truncated cone 9mm and one case of 147 gr. That 147 gr is great with falling steel and I can load it very slow and still have the gun cycle.

What are you using now? I've heard good things about DG and Blue.

really like coated bullets because they greatly reduce lead exposure.

I was also able to stock up on Precision Delta hollow points at pennies on the dollar when a friend got out of reloading.
Hollow points are great for avoiding lead since because the bullet is wrapped from the back, there is no exposed lead at the base.

I have a poop-ton of varied 9mm reloading components i can hook you up with stuff to load a small trial batch.

I was using precision and ibeji for years. Precisoin shutdown and ibeji has had significant delays in shipping. I bought a case of blue bullets a couple months ago. I haven't had the time to work up and chrono new minor and major loads.

I liked how precisions bullets were flat points (truncated cones) and left nice holes in paper. Many of the coated bullet makers only sell round nose. Though blue bullets does sell a 125 gr truncated cone, they are much more than Precision.

I was paying $249 for a case of 3500 bullets and Blue bullets wants $306 for the same thing. I guess it's still not bad.
