Hmmm. How dangerous are cannonballs? And what could go wrong?

Quote from the first article.

Nobody was injured when the metal ball missed its intended target at a military firing range and flew 700 yards off course, crashing into the bedroom wall of a sleeping couple, bounced off a roof of another house and landing in the passenger side of a minivan.

Google "mythbusters cannonball accident" for more info. Cannons do look like lots of fun. But they really are weapons that dominated the battlefield for centuries.

Some years ago I attended the Westfield Machine Gun Shoot and they did an hour where they shot a good sized cannon at a mobile camper they had put out about 200 yards. The interesting thing was that when it went off you could actually see the cannon ball flying towards the target. Hit the trailer and caved in part of the side. You could see the ball bouncing on the other side of the trailer. Rolled into the berm. No way that ball would have gone 700 yards though.

Easy fix Needed more powder...

Was speaking with the prez. this morning. The plate rack is being repaired because someone shot it with a rifle again. The guilty party is known and I don't want to give away what will happen. steel target from MGM is going up at the 100. It should make shooting down the steel a bit more difficult. Time will tell.

It still bugs me that .22 rifles aren't allowed on that plate rack. The rationale has always been "someone might assume that all rifles are allowed" but clearly that's happening anyways. Hey @fast_st - any chance of allowing rimfire rifles?? That's probably the only way I'll ever drag my wife out to the range.

A wise man, I think it was Gerry said, 'Gee I wonder where all those bullets are going to end up'

If you look close it says 'no targets on the crossbars. I fetched a gallon of red paint, a roller and a pint of slightly pissed off and painted the frames bright rustoleum red and with some white spray paint, freshened up the request with a bit more contrast.

I brought down screws, a couple plywood sheets and a chainsaw, managed to replace 4 panels

How about a vote, do we re-do the frames like the 200/300 with a tool-less plywood change? Make some extras available?
You may need that red paint on the 50 yard range:

I know everyone is '*gasp* no cameras!' but this is a perfect example of why it might be good, to see who's doing sh*t like this. ....of course, this is probably the same person who rests a board of wood on their lap while using a nail gun to attach another piece of wood to it, uses their own hand as a guide for a table saw, or places their leg under a car jack as a backup, so they might be easy to spot.....

Then you get retired Fudds with nothing better to do than go through hours and hours of videos pointing out bayonet lugs, standard cap mags and flash hiders to the local police. Should get some retired LEO's as range officers as well!

I guess I'm not forgiving enough. I don't believe it's morons. If they were that stupid, Darwin would have weeded them out by now.
It is only 100 yds.

What I think is happening(since it is such a short range) is people are practicing using their iron sights at that range.

I dont believe the steel is shot up at the 200/300, why not? If someone is out to desroy things, why just the 100?

Ill tell you why, because they arent out to destroy stuff or ruin your (or anyone elses)day.. This is nothing but being mad everything isnt in perfect working order for you everytime you decide to hit up the range.

100 yds is a very popular distance for EVERYBODY, beginner and advanced.. Not everybody is a special forces navy seal delta operative with laser like aim every single shot they take.

You guys sound like maniacs, everyone is out to destroy everything, call the cops, cameras, execute the guilty etc...Relax!

There should be plenty of money in the treasury of the club to replace the consumable items at every range, this is(partly) what we pay $150 a year for.
