Those of you who are long range snipers, what do you run for glass? Anyone have experience with Tract? And is it $1325 better than the Monstrum Hornet? Both are made with Chinese sourced parts but the Tract is manufactured in the Philippines and Monstrum in China.

Not a long range sniper. Not a great shot. Happy with Arken optics for a budget option. The 4-16 is more than I need for steel plates out to 6 or 700 yards. That’s all I got.

What’s your use case and what distance are you shooting out to?

Want something to put on my shiny new Savage FV-SR MK2. A long range scope would be nice to see the little holes and bullet drop means I can sling 22lr at 200 yards if I'm optimistic and Neptune's calm.

Poke around on snipershide.

I’m the crown princess of Saudi Arabia. I just need to send a photo of my passport and my bank routing number.

He needs new material, though. No joke, when i read the thread title before i clicked i already knew China.

He only has 2 things in his wheelhouse, china and black people.

Up your troll game OP
Not trolling. Just a poor who wish I had more disposable money to sink into the gun hobby and my experience is Chinese accessories aren't all that bad. Are the stuff that cost an order of magnitude really an order of magnitude better? Some of you on the watch thread - one of your watches prob is worth many times more than my entire gun collection.

Look into Athlons, Burrises, and Vortex’s instead of a Monstrum. Personally, I’d spend slightly more and look at their mid-tier optics instead of the base lines. Look for sales or used optics on Reddit/gunaccessoriesforsale. Bonus with the vortex is that if you buy a broken used one, you can still get it replaced/fixed under warranty. Vortex warranty doesn’t help if you’re taking a rifle hunting when it fails, but it’s amazing for range guns.

Yes, there are great for dollar Chinese optics, but Monstrum ain’t one of them.

Im poor but I don't wear watches.

Im firmly against China and optics. Several reasons. China QC is hit or miss. China overall quality and longevity is generally lower than non China. Perhaps most importantly, having these reasonably advanced optics made in China is a strategic threat to the west. We are showing a not exactly friendly country how to make modern optics.

I try to avoid Chinese shit when I can. Granted often times I can't.

The Chinese aren't some dumb backwater durkas many Americans still think of them to be. Sure they fell behind the world for a couple centuries and as a result got carved out by white folks [and honorary white - Japan] but they've learned their lesson thinking they're smart hot shit. Yeah so they copy and learn and steal patents and ideas and the products reflect upon it. For a $160 scope, the Monstrum Panzer at 10x looked just as sharp as my friend's Leupold. How they pull that off? Scary indeed.

It's pretty well established that performance per $ is mostly a logarithmic, not linear scale, whether you're talking scopes or vehicles or whatever.
A $1.5k scope is in no way going to be 10 times better than a (good) $150 one by most any measurement. There always seems to be diminishing returns on just about any type of product I can think of, the more you pay, the less percentage of gains you get.
The trick is finding the balance/price point you're willing to live with and that's very subjective depending on your budget and goals.

I picked up a $160 Monstrum 5-25 whatever for shits and giggles to compare it with what else I have and it's optics at least are noticeably inferior to the 'next level up' like a ~$250 Arken. I'll end up putting the thing on a cheapy pcp air gun or .22...
Is it 'usable'? Sure, you can easily see a 1" target dot at a couple hundred yards and .22 holes (at 150 anyway), blurry as they are. I'd consider it good for the $'s but would typically still opt to save my pennies and spend another $100 on something better. More $'s of course for a purpose that really mattered to me.
So far I've found that a $1.3k scope on clearance for $750 is about as much as I need to keep me happy for the stuff I'm more picky about and substantially less $'s for the lesser requirements.

Just grabbed a bushnell match pro 6-24, 399$

Locking turrets, zero stop, tree reticle, FFP. Haven’t gotten it out to use it, but looking out the window with it and across wide spaces it’s pretty decent. Plenty for 4-500yds will be used at.

I have 2 arkens on my .22s and they are pretty decent for that use and price.

The Chinese lack the ability to innovate. They can make reasonable copies, but they cant make things like the West does.

China couldnt even make ball point pens until 2017. Over a hundred years late on that one.

But once you show em, they know.

I've found that the bang for buck is in general much better on the lower power scopes.
You start getting into the 20+ power stuff and it's a different ball game.

Are you reaching out to the 0.001% of the forum who actually are, or the Walter Mittys who think they are?

Not an actual long range sniper, but I play one at the range! [laugh] When I put a rifle together I try to stay with higher level components. For years I wanted a NightForce ATACR scope. I figured at that price point it must be the end all be all of scopes, or at least at the top of the range among them. So I was finally able to scrap enough together to get one. I bought a NightForce ATACR 5-25x56mm with a Tremor reticle and I put it on my Masterpiece Arms Precision Rifle in 6.5CM. I was super excited about it. I've been to the range several times with it and you know what I found out? I hate that damn scope! The reticle is too light in daytime and I need to turn on the illumination even in broad daylight. The reticle is also very busy and overall I don't think the clarity is any better than the Leopold or Vortex scopes I have. Next time I'll just spend a less and not pay for all the hoopla that goes along with these high end scopes.

Did you blind order it or fondle one before hand?

Clarity/glass quailty I’ve come to realize is a subjective thing. Sure you can tell the difference between 200$ scopes and 2000$ scopes but the difference between 800/1000/1500$ scopes is up to the user

I've played with one in a shop and liked it at the time. Real world use was a totally different experience.

Look at the glass and decide for yourself.

They are not good at solving problems or innovating. Ask anyone that works or worked in a lab with Chinese people. They do a great job following instructions, until they get a curveball, that is when you realize they don't really know what they are doing.

Of course, no every Chinese person is the same.

I put that to the test when I had a Chinese intern with a bunch of nice degrees and junk. It was spot on. Got rid of that person.

One of the chinese students I worked with told me about how unsafe some of their labs were over there. The other chinese intern at that lab just wanted a picture with me to show her friends at home lol
