MA Gun Grab 2024: H.4885 - Passed legislature, headed to the governor

Got it. Can an MA dealer put it in the portal before it's sold? Or does it have to be sold to be in the portal.
I haven't really done more than skim the dealer sections but it looks like dealers are going to be required to register their inventory with the state.

So yes, after passage dealers will be able to register pre sale.

Might be true but I'm not a fud so I kinda gloss over that stuff.

I like pretty much everything, particularly because I am as much (or more) a hunter as a shooter. Also, even more concerned that dealers would not be able to sell ANY long guns once in effect (that is, until a roster is developed), things are going to be tough enough for them if 99% of semi-autos are eliminated.

Lots of back and fourth over the lowers. The biggest issue is that many people registered their lower after it was capable of shooting the same way they do when doing a pistol frame transfer because they thought that was what they were supposed to do post 7/16. While it's "cool" to post here calling people dumb for doing so, there was a lot of misunderstanding information when lower transactions were being done and people efa10 after completion. Hopefully nothing comes from it but this could effect hundreds if not more gun owners here.

seriously though. Who does one call or email to get answers to questions about this?

I saw a post or two from someone who had emailed a question, and got a seemingly pretty serious official answer. He posted the screenshotted reply.

But there’s like 4-5 threads about this subject (in one way or another) and I can’t find the post to ask that person directly. Is it the AGs office? Who can answer questions about this?
The law hasn't been signed yet as far as I can tell. There isn't anyone to ask. And if it is signed, 90 days before it goes into effect with the exception of the Assault Weapons Registration stuff by 8/1. An emergency preamble could get added but seems unlikely.

There are many unintentional and unintended consequences with this law no matter what the answers are.

What could you possibly say about a line of guys waiting patiently for their chance to kneel and blow a tyrant that would get you a vacation 😉

There are fifty guys in that picture, and every single one of them has been able to take his AR to the range every day for the last ten years without giving it a second thought.

The couple hundred thousand hard steely-eyed patriots who didn't register their rifles? Yeah. Not so much.

Everything has to go through testing for the roster since there is no longer a frame workaround.
This also applies to rifles and shotguns since everything is a firearm now.
So how many rifles or shotguns are on the roster today? Zero
How many will be there in six months?
Probably zero.

So I read it correctly that this would restrict and ban semi auto pistols as well. Next thing is I read somewhere in that bill that you’re not allowed to carry an assault weapon.
Now an assault weapon is defined by two features.
A detachable magazine. (Pistol has that)
Semi automatic operation (check On that for pistols)
Or am I looking into that incorrectly as well

I said “They must have some really good pussy down there.” but in all fairness NES was striving to be a more family friendly environment back then…

And to this I’d say: “Enjoy the toy…”

I called, I wrote letters all knowing it would do no good, I urged my friends and family and shit even people I barely knew to do the same.
This was hard for myself to keep up on, constantly changing, morphing etc. It felt like the stupid shell game a hustler would play on a city street.

I felt I wouldn’t know what the final crap show would be till it came out. Well the baby was born and for once I agree with the left. This one should have been aborted
We all new the moon bats we’re going to shove at least 95% of the bag of shit down our throats.

They went too far with semi auto ban and eventually after more pain and suffering the shit will be overturned. We can only hope that all the crap back to 2016 decrees gets wiped.

@Hardwired

Im not sure FS is totally correct with this statement. The law continues:

"...or by a holder of a license to sell under section 122; provided, that the assault-style firearm shall be registered in accordance with section 121B"

Section 121B is the new registration system this law creates, not the "registration" system we have now. This seems to indicate that as long as the gun is legally possessed in MA by Aug 1st, by a dealer or individual, it is grandfathered. That would mean that dealers can sell their inventory but not re-stock. In other words, they dont have to be "registered" in the current system by Aug 1st.

IANAL
That wasn’t Four Seasons.

Here is from Four Season's email (I thought I wasn’t getting their email blasts but I still am). $2800-4500 crazy prices unless it’s a PCC.

Four Seasons
Woburn, MA

The very restrictive gun bill H.4139 has been passed by the House and Senate. It goes into effect August 1, 2024.

Below are firearms that we have in stock today that you can buy.

Some items we have a good supply and others we have just a few of.
This is your last chance to buy these products in MA.
You won’t be able to buy them on 8/1/2024.

PLEASE NOTE: All firearms are sold with fixed stocks and 10 round magazines.
The images used may show folding stocks and larger capacity magazines.

I know we’re all trying to sort through what the new law will mean, and how it will impact our lives as gun-owners, but the one thing we should all agree upon is that fixed mags are gay as f***.
Right, but I was originally replying to the guy asking.

When you see the new guys grabbing a couple of PCCs at the shop and there’s only fixed mag option left for 556/308 that’s not $2800+…

What’s an SKS worth now?

every single one of the yea voters personal phone numbers can be found via a quick Google. Give them a call and let them know how you feel, be polite, but remind them they don't live in an ivory tower.

If you own a business, don't work with them, their family or friends and let them know why. Make life for them as uncomfortable as possible.

Maybe we should call/write all of the "yea" votes and ask specific questions about how to comply with the new law.

"I was going to buy a new bolt action hunting rifle, but this law makes that illegal. Am I reading that right?" (quote chapter and section saying so)

"I have a collection of antique guns that never had 10 round magazines made for them, this bill seems to make them impossible to sell because the buyer can't get magazines or even take the ones I've got. Am I reading that right? This feels like a taking without compensation."

etc.

Ask in a genuine, respectful way; as if you're trying to understand the new regulations, not change their mind or rile them up.

Make them admit they have no idea what was in the bill or how any of it works.

To what end?

Not a bad idea, but all we'd get is a form letter. We wouldn't be costing them any extra time or energy.

"Thank you for expressing your concerns. As you know, Gun Violence is a scourge on our society. We are proud that our new law will stop all that. In addition, we Worked Closely with Law-Abiding Gun Owners on a series of Listening Tours, so we're confident the concerns you express were already debated and solved."

No end, make their lives a living hell. Drown them in stupid questions, make them regret passing this garbage.

See above.

You're not drowning anyone in stupid questions because they're not bothering to answer you. The only one regretting anything is the intern assigned to write the form letter, because she's impatient to go get lunch instead.

Call then.

Email is useless because form letter, and I expect snail mail is just as useless, but more expensive (for them too, if they respond)

"I appreciate your question, sir. Once the Senator is back in the office, I'll make sure to bring this to her attention."

Again, the intern is the only person you're inconveniencing.
