MA Gun Grab 2024: H.4885 - Passed legislature, headed to the governor

Because the bill banned frame transfers. So we can only buy what the state allows us to buy.

Just my elementary understanding.
It did not totally ban frame transfers, but made frame into "guns", and specifically designated AW style frames as AWs. It also means the frame trick to get an off-line handgun into the DPRM legally does not work as of 8/1. It looks like we can still get 1911 frames provided they are for an "on list" gun. I'm trying to figure out how many 2011 style frames to include in my emergency order Monday (I'm ordering "just in case").

Keep in mind when arguing with people to not comply, what theyve already complied to in the last 3 years. Once the highway signs say to turn in your guns its over

💉
And there will be no hiding because of our privately funded government surveillance a la Verizon/AT&T/Ring.

Never get involved with the Massachusetts DOR they will do what ever they can to screw you, and take no prisoners. This has got to be the most ruthless government agency in Massachusetts. I have a story to tell, however it is too long a story and this is not the post to tell it.
I am in Rockport now. r-HOP (Rockport House of Pizza) was shut down by the DOR a month or so ago and has not reopened. Nice orange "Siezed by DOR" sign on the dor.

That's kind of where I'm at right now. I'm content with what I've got but I would like to add a high end 1911 I've been holding off on, just not sure what to get. I know the clock is ticking, I'm thinking about a Dan Wesson specialist or an Ed Brown special forces.

If you know casual gun owners in MA reach out to them and make sure they understand what happens on 8/1. I texted 2 this morning and they had zero clue.
Same here, the only ones that probably know right now are us. The vast majority won't know until they get a letter in the mail telling them it's time to register what they've got with the overlords

For C&R holders, it appears the language has been left intact.

It does say that the old section allowing this 131E has been removed in its entirety.

This language is:

A firearms collector, licensed pursuant to 18 U.S.C. 923(b), may purchase a rifle, shotgun or firearm that was not previously owned or registered in the commonwealth from a dealer licensed under section 122 if that rifle, shotgun or firearm is a curio or relic as defined in 27 CFR 478.11.

This is replaced with Section 128A(f), which has the same language:

1141 (f) A bona fide collector of firearms may purchase a firearm that was not previously
1142 owned or registered in the commonwealth from a dealer licensed under section 122 if it is a curio
1143 or relic firearm as defined in section 121.

And "bona fide collector" is defined as : “Bona fide collector of firearms”, a licensed collector pursuant to 18 U.S.C. section 923(b)

Of course, who knows how this will all play out, I was just looking at this specific section since the GOAL summary did not specifically address this piece (I understand that time was short, just stating this).

As much as this sucks and I'm poor right now so probably no toys for me these next two week. One thing I do get a smile and laugh out of is all the people buying stuff. Just like in 2016 with the AR thing. The legislature is doing a great job at promoting guns sales. I'm going to have to take a cruise by my local places today. It is like black Friday at the outlets.

Not that is made a difference in the end but I don't have have a talk with my two guys. They both voted against this garbage.

Seems like private transfers are the only way to get some off roster things already here. I'd be willing to bet we see serious price gouging.
Do you sell you home for a fair markup or the maximum you can get in the market? Or does that sort of behavior only become price gouging when someone else does it?

Detachable mag isn’t a pistol feature unless it’s outside the pistol grip. The big change for pistols is they all need to be on the roster. But the 50oz weight requirement is gone which may open up some avenues.

What would this mean if I reverted my sbr back into its pistol configuration?

I thought this was just a new law in addition to and not modifying the previous assault weapon ban.

It’ll be interesting we’ll have an A.R. 15 pistol but I never remember once the pistol that can’t be a rifle or vice versa I forget.

Bruen decision ruined us. Zealots on the left went nuclear.
Ruined? No. f***ed short term? Kinda.

All it takes is dimples making it law and a lawsuit filed by the Orgs for an injunction and wait for the courts to rule. This one is pretty egregious in violation of Heller, MacDonald, and Bruen so I would be supremely shocked if it’s not overturned.

If the left wants to over react in the short term? Let them.

Does the GOAL summary say that ARs registered after 2016 are illegal on 8/1?
SECTION 71. Assault Style Firearms
• Sets two grandfathering dates that conflict with the date in the new definition of “Assault Style Firearm”.
o August 1, 2024 Assault Style Firearms and Large Capacity Feeding Devices - bans: possess, own, offer for sale, sell or otherwise transfer in the commonwealth or import into the commonwealth that was not lawfully possessed in the state prior to August 2, 2024.
