MA Gun Grab 2024: H.4885 - Passed legislature, headed to the governor

Back when I lived behind the iron curtain I'd go to dealers who didn't give a shit.

Sad things are changing. MA doesn't respect people's rights.
Massachusetts hasn't respected people's rights in 200 years. Go look at the volumes of Massachustetts law books in the Boston Public Library.

So true, it's even memorialized in a movie script............"Everything is illegal in Massachusetts."

"The more corrupt the society, the more numerous its laws" Tacitus~ Roman historian and senator.

Where in the new law (besides the part where everything is a firearm and everything needs to be on the roster) does it say that dealers can’t sell/resell used the pre 8/1 assault style weapons along side with regular inventory?

Not every dealer did it that way..... how they never got whacked by the state etc were questions i never asked.
In the past, I have bought Glocks from dealers that were sold to me as full guns and an FA-10 from them

I know one that I bought from got spanked hard.

And a few others that got spanked.

I never heard a thing regarding mine.

So all semi-autos are AW under this new law? If not, what guns cam be sold besides the obvious revolvers, bolt-action rifles, pump shotguns etc.? What can dealers sell now?

Ironically a few I know of weren't wacked by the state. One failed an ATF audit and gave up his license. (Had too many paperwork errors, ignored warnings etc). Another just shut his business down after an employee stole guns from him and created a huge mess.

Strictly speaking its way worse.... "Boring shit on the list" = is what dealers can legally sell new. Unsure of other conditionals. Unsure if a lot of dealers are going to do things like ignore the list compliance thing up to the 90 day enactment period or not. (Eg, on boring long guns that aren't otherwise fully banned after 8/1) Thats a fun question.

I guess you missed it at the 2016 State House rally

Gun owners angry at Maura Healey: 'This has gone national'

We should do this again

I thought MA made it so you don’t need a permit for pepper spray anymore. Am I just wrong about that? I noticed that this bill makes changes to the pepper spray permitting age.

This sucks so even things that weren’t banned before like berettas, some sigs, mini-14s etc. are now banned? That’s despotic AF

I've seen the 90-day enactment period mentioned several times. Is the effect date of this 8/1 or is it 90 days? Or do we not know until it's signed?

Ruined? No. f***ed short term? Kinda.

All it takes is dimples making it law and a lawsuit filed by the Orgs for an injunction and wait for the courts to rule. This one is pretty egregious in violation of Heller, MacDonald, and Bruen so I would be supremely shocked if it’s not overturned.

If the left wants to over react in the short term? Let them.
The issue is one of injunctions slowing the whole of the process down.

The reality is to push for a real trial on the merits as quickly as possible to start the ball moving up the food chain of the appeals process to get to SCOTUS as quickly as possible.

It will take 90 days after being signed to go into effect, but the compliance date is 8/1. So you could legally buy a new “assault weapon” on 8/2 that’s legal today, but it would become illegal 90 days from now since the grandfather date is 8/1 hardcoded in the law. Easy to follow right?

Maybe the last chance to get a new sp5 or k in MA, right? The price is right and the clock is ticking.
Was just planning to start a MP5 SBR process, but now not sure if we will still be able to with the new law in place?

Worried that I won’t be able to legally register it after 8/1 even if I buy the receiver and start the form 1 now. And then I get stuck with an expensive paper weight.

It is not THEIR MONEY. It is taxpayer money.

They still have a budget. They don't have an unlimited amount to spend at a moment's notice. It's not like there's a huge closet full of interns and they can just go get another one when the first one is busy answering questions about the law they just voted for.

Don't confuse those that push the rainbow agenda with those under the rainbow umbrella.
Those under the umbrella want the same thing we want - to be left alone.

The ones that push are simply using a cause to gain power for themselves - the people under the umbrella are nothing more than useful pawns to them.

I 90% agree with this.

That doesn't change the fact that the people under the rainbow umbrella see gun owners as a direct threat. If NES is any indication of anything, it's not surprising they feel that way. There's lots of people on NES (not all, surely, but enough to really stand out) who write stuff that is incredibly hostile to the people who just want to be left alone.

Looks like the politicians missed good old Article 17:
"The people have a right to keep and to bear arms for the common defence. And as, in time of peace, armies are dangerous to liberty, they ought not to be maintained without the consent of the legislature; and the military power shall always be held in an exact subordination to the civil authority, and be governed by it."

John Adams creation was the model for the US constitution and Jefferson took it a step further “shall not be infringed” but here we are.

John Adams & the Massachusetts Constitution

The 1780 Constitution of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, drafted by John Adams, is the world's oldest functioning written constitution. It served as a model for the United States Constitution, which was written in 1787 and became effective in 1789.

Laughable mass.gov has a why study this rag.
Mass pols cannot be recalled so there is little recourse.

Why Study the Massachusetts Constitution

The 1780 Constitution of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, drafted by John Adams, is the world's oldest functioning written constitution. It served as a model for the United States Constitution, which was written in 1787 and became effective in 1789. (The Bill of Rights to the United States Constitution were approved in 1789 and became effective in 1791). In turn, the United States Constitution has, particularly in years since World War II, served as a model for the constitutions of many nations, including Germany, Japan, India and South Africa. The United States Constitution has also influenced international agreements and charters, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

I’m wondering this as well.

I think there is a way it’s doable. But not 100% sure.

Since you own the lower. Know what length barrel you want. Its legal (the lower) to own today and 90 days at least before you need a (new type of) registration

Thoughts?
