MA Gun Grab 2024: H.4885 - Passed legislature, headed to the governor

GOAL is supposed to lobby and work with the legislature to stop or at least take the edge off these shitty bills.
Going scorched earth is not conducive to their goals.

Maybe it's time to update the mission and goals especially if the current ones are not producing the desired outcomes, which I would argue is the case. Times have changed since the formation of GOAL and they need to adapt to the changing landscape.

If they're worried about crime why would they ban all firearms for law-abiding gun owners and not just impose stricter penalties for criminals found with these items?
the best friend to an authoritarian is the criminal. Get enough crime and you can pass anything you want in the name of safety. They have zero motivation to actually stop criminals. Sure some come in who are affected by tragedy but they are either corrupted by the system or voted out in favor of someone who is more bendable.

Take a look at the difference between H4139 and S2572 - GOAL had a hand in that.

Honest question - and for the record I appreciate your insights on all of this - but if we're giving GOAL credit for however much better the senate version is than the house version, is it better in a way that makes the legislation more likely to withstand scrutiny or did GOAL actually get the legislature to concede issues that aren't ultimately self-serving for the legislature anyway? In other words, would we have been better off if the legislature tried to figure things out on their own and enacted something that would be more easily defeated in court in the process? Is GOAL effectively giving them practical advice, or are they somehow squeezing legit concessions out of them?

The Dems are trying to figure things out on their own. Sen. Tarr tried to get an amendment passed that according to him would have stood up to Judicial scrutiny and the Dems overwhelmingly told him to take a hike. This was before Amendment 11.1 but I think by even adding in the 2016 date, they do nothing to avoid a Court challenge to it. Hard to argue that these legally possessed rifles are ok to keep while those over there that were legally purchased as well are not.

What righteous person would support grandfathering a right guaranteed in the Constitution and DENYING the same right to others after some arbitrary date? All the wrangling and speculation about this concept makes me sick. The argument should only be focused on the freedom of all citizens past, present and FUTURE. If grandfathering is allowed many of those who are given special status will certainly not fight as hard for the rights of others. Grandfathering only serves to divide. The fight should be for all. No grandfathering and NO turning in anything.
It's not generosity , it's getting around the "Taking " clause.

It is my understanding that senator Tarr's vote in favor of the bill was his end of a bargain he drove to make the bill less obscene. It is also my understanding that the payout would take place when the two bills are merged. I hope my source is correct on this.

FPC's work is based in litigation which is by definition adversarial
GOAL's work is legislative lobbying - not a place where adversarial relationships work well.
Sorry man. Goal just ain’t cutting the mustard for us just like comm2a.
We have nothing here. Time to start our own or support Goa and fpc.

My 3 season camp is now $5600 and change in taxes. Don't get me wrong I love NH but they ain't trouble free.

NH has gone full blown bananas, one example, 12 acres with tiny, half-ass camp, $350K, some idiot will buy it:

You work in MA you will pay income tax to MA even living in NH. NH has the 3rd highest property taxes in America. A more free state than MA I will concede but no doubt the Leftists have made in roads there.
I agree if you still have to pay MA income tax then the taxes are less if you move to NH argument isn’t a strong one. But taxes can be significantly lower if you live and work in NH depending on your income, property value, and the town you live in.

Massachusetts real estate taxes are on average lower than New Hampshire, but overall tax burden is less in NH; this is obviously not the case if you live in NH but work in MA.

Doesn’t matter to me as I don’t put a price on freedom, but don’t believe the hype and let’s keep on topic for this thread.

I have an idea - move to NH and suck up the longer commute. With all you save on taxes and real estate you can buy a lot of gas. Just make sure you do in before you cross into MA. Rob that sh!thole of all the tax revenue you can.

edit:
When the writing was on the wall that the state was going to try to vax and trans my kid that was it. When the crime started to escalate. When Malnea Cass and South Bay became a no-go zone. We bailed for the border. Disruptive, expensive, even risky - yes. Totally worth it.
I don’t regret the move. Thank god I work in NH too.

it makes me wonder why he wants it to pass muster with a lawsuit, we have enough gun laws

Freedom cost money lol,nh people know wut they got up there
Every real estate plot up here should have the following disclaimers?
--I know what I got.
--Don't lowball me!
--First come first serve NO HOLDS
--Cash or Venmo only
--I'm the third trailer on the right

BTW, all the pre-healey land is gone. Once this bill passes ima list my house at 40% over zillow.

My PCP is a member of my local club; I've shot skeet with him.
My optometrist is a member of my local club.
My chiropractor is a member of my local club; he shoots NRL and PRS.
My dentist is a member of my local club.

I'm not kidding.

My former PCP turned out to be a commie. Trained in Russia, no kidding. Jab happy too. Big pharmas boy.

Ask yourself what is the world view of the republican party?
How does that fit with your own view of the purpose and depth of government?

I would posit that what you consider a RINO is actually a person that closely fits the current world view of the republican party and those you would consider loyal republicans are actually classical libertarians who value a hierarchy of persons over state and state over federal power.
Charlie Baker is that you?

Just kidding. I’m an independant.
PAC money runs the show. Our representation is bought.

Since there is no actual definition for "rate of fire" AND one cannot define one that includes operator ability since one can easily argue that training objectively increases a person's ability to effectively fire faster AND the state REQUIRES training to possess a license that operator ability cannot be considered or else the state would require you to take training where the knowledge is effectively outlawed.

That leaves us the ordinary understandings: Rate of fire - Wikipedia
Therefore one would not be able to run a lower weight buffer or springs that might increase cyclic rate by slightly increasing bolt or slide speed but could use a trigger modifier as long as each round fired requires a separate movement of the trigger.

And cut off Jerry Miculeks trigger finger.

"Freedom is nothing but the habit of choice. Now choice is remarkably wide in this life. Each day begins with the choice of tying one’s left or right shoelace first, and ends with the choice of observing or ignoring the providence of God. Pressure narrows choice forcibly. Under light pressure men sacrifice small choices lightly. But it is only under the greatest pressure that they sacrifice the greatest choices, because choice, and choice alone, informs them that they are men and not machines." - Milton Mayer, They Thought They Were Free

Quite stunning intelect for a man who the Boston Globe has pegged as a thug.

Constant surprises this one.
