Nighthawks!

Ok folks. Tell me Nighthawks SUCK and they are nowhere worth the cost! Go ahead. Tell me! Come on! Save a buddy $4000. I’d do it for you!

So they suck, right?

This is what I fondled earlier today. Now I need to keep telling myself they suck.
You are posting on skinflint central about whether buying a $4000 gun that is metal and has a safety is a good idea? 90% of your responses will be "hell no" given who you are asking.

I own multiple nighthawks. I have sold LOTS of nighthawks, both new and used. I can tell you that any used nighthawk I take in goes back to the factory for service (spring replacement and anything else needed) before I resell it. Hopefully this used one has had the same treatment. Off roster so I assume going personal transfer.

Nighthawk is a custom gun manufacturer. Yes, they have models on their website and build many to exactly like those shown, but a huge percentage are custom. I buy to stock them and even I usually change them up a little. People who order them customize them to exactly what they want. Lead time is currently 2 years... Most modifications can get done in about 6 months if you find a base nighthawk (or colt) you want and need changes. For example adding IOS (nighthawks optics ready system) to this would take about 6 months.

I sell nighthawk, les baer, ed brown, etc. Nighthawk is by far the nicest gun as it comes from the factory. Slides are fitted to move like butter. Finishes and details are awesome.

The best shooters tend to be Les Baers. They come rough and ready. Slides tight and you need to shoot 200+ rounds to loosen them up. No fancy cuts or extra features. Shooters guns.

I love my nighthawks. I love my other high end 1911s also.

Buy what makes you happy.

If you want a $2K-$3K 1911 I would buy Dan Wesson
If you want a $2K-$3K double stack 1911 I would by a Tisas and put $1000-$1500 into it

I would never buy a Staccato
I would never buy a Kimber

But I am just one opinion. I own zero glocks personally (but have sold 1000s) so you know where I fall on the gun spectrum.

For the $2k-3k range double stack, the DWX is a good choice. Tisas’s tolerance sucks, unless you have 10 of them in front of you and get to inspect each one. If you get unlucky enough to get a badly fitted barrel, it will not be as accurate (for long range) and that’s more money spent to refit a new barrel.

Unless you are a world class shooter, it's probably not worth the money. "It" won't make you a better shooter.

99.9% of guns out shoot the shooter.

That said, I've held some guns that just felt like sex with a 20 year old college girl on spring break. Very nice.....

Let's say that this thread has convinced me it's definitely a bad idea to order a custom Nighthawk. What dealers should I avoid talking to, in order to get a good experience not buying a Nighthawk? Maybe poke @CrackPot here :)

I've heard going direct is somewhat mixed. Is that the case?

If you want one for real hit me up, I can get you started
I’m somewhat serious. It’s annoying as hell to get a single stack government .45 with an optic plate without a giant wait time or gunsmiths that don’t know what they’re doing. Hence looking for dealers rather than emailing Nighthawk directly :)

Fondled one today along with a Dan Wesson and a Springfield

Felt a difference between the Wilson/Wesson and the Springfield but not ton but there was some. Difference between the Ws negligible.

Do you CC a $5k gun?

I know, right?

I'm just catching up on this thread. I'd never spend north of $3k on any pistol, especially a 1911... but the thing is, there was a time I said the same thing about $1k. I blew past that one day... with a 1911.

I've owned and fired a bunch of 1911s. For me, the most accurate is one of the ones I've kept: a Randall A131. Ten-groove barrel, and even a shooter as mediocre as me can tell the difference there. It was considered a premium 1911 when it was made, and it's still a stellar piece of work, but it's not on a par with a Nighthawk.

Hard for me to picture anything shooting any better than that Randall, at least in my hands.

The way I see it, there are three reasons to buy a $4k+ pistol:
  1. You're looking for an heirloom. A BBQ gun. You appreciate top notch quality. You want the best and that's that.
  2. You're competing. I mean actually competing, you're not just a C class slob with deep pockets.
  3. You have deep pockets and you want to larp. You won't shoot the gun all that much.
Personally, I don't like safe queens, the gun isn't the limiting factor when I compete, and I don't have $4k to just toss out for bragging rights. So while I can appreciate a high end pistol, I don't own one.

What I'm likely to do at some point is take an intermediate step into nice 1911s at the $2-3k price point, before the law of diminishing marginal returns really kicks in hard. It'll likely be a Dan Wesson, or maybe a Colt worked over by Greg Derr. Maybe stretch for a Staccato too, they seem to hold up very well to high round counts.

There’s a case to be made for deep pockets, shoot a ton, just like gucci shit

All perspective

I wouldn’t think twice dropping 5k on a CG or beretta 694. Hell if I found a good deal on a DT11 I’d jump on it.

I could never fathom spending 5k on a 1911…esp a 45 single stack. No matter how slick or nice it was it’s just a lame.

Well after going back and forth and doing some addition research I have pass on this 9mm Nighthawk. Instead I found a handgun that actually scratches two itches I’ve had. One is to get a Nighthawk and two I’ve always wanted a long slide. So without further ado, I introduce you to the Nighthawk Chairman Long Slide in God’s caliber. She is one sweet handgun. Heading to the range today!!!

That's a pretty wild pistol.

I eventually found that the dealers are just listed on Nighthawk's website (what a concept), soooooo.....
