you all knew that anyway. i'm changing the gun i carry daily for the first time in 12 years. no, not to the newest and greatest, but i want to start carrying a 45 acp. i'm going with my colt combat commander or sig 220. i'm testing the ammo i want to carry now but it's getting expensive. i've been using cheap winchester white box bulk, 230 fmj until recently. just checking function in both guns. i stumbled on a buffalo bore vid on the subject and i'm trying to bring in their +p 255 gr hard cast flat point to try to see if will feed in either of my pistols reliably. i use 8 rd chip mccormick mags (pre wilson combat) in the colt and 8 rd sig mags for the 220 (i believe by mec-gar, branded sig).
as my long dead irish grandma use to say..."jesus, mary and joseph!" those are 40 bucks for a box of 20...+shipping costs, which i gather have haz mat charges as well. i'll need to order direct from buffalo bore, can't find anyone who stocks them, bass pro says they do, but they are always out of stock. i'd need at least 3 to 4 boxes for a rudimentary function test. i'd reload for testing then switch to factory loaded buff bores to carry but can't find a dupe of the bullet i'm wanting. sooo...silver tips anyone? not to the newest and greatest

Newest is not always greatest.

I recently went with a PM9 for CCW. Much better (for me) than the 365 because it is more comfortable to carry. NES was sh*tting themselves telling me about the trigger and how it is old technology or whatever. LOL.

If it works, it works. Doesn't matter if it was designed last month or 30 years ago.

what a load of purest bull.
al those youtubes of paid promoters have nothing to do with reality.
That’s what’s awesome about the US.

You can make your own choices, and live with the aftermath.

Everyone else here can weigh the arguments, and make their own decision.

+1 for the P220 in a Crossbreed Super Tuck
Have had mine for years, Hornady Critical Duty and have no reason to change.

missouri bullets is showing the 255 rnfp bullet i want. i musta missed it first go around. i'll bring in 500 to play with...gotta hit that 920+ fps from a commander. i can experiment at the start with my norinco 1911. nothing should destroy that hunk of iron.

230 grain ball ammo has a good reputation. I wouldn’t hesitate to carry it.
Fact: Ball ammo does much less damage to flesh compared to hollow points due to its lack of expansion
Fact: Ball ammo has much less stopping power compared to hollow points due to its lack of expansion
Fact: Ball ammo has a far greater chance of over penetration compared to hollow points which endangers everyone behind the target

The fact is 230 grain ball ammo has a proven track record to be adequate for the aforementioned purposes. It is a good choice, especially for the combat commander which may not reliably function with most hollow points. And it would cost a lot of us more than we can afford to “prove” that 1911 to be reliable with the hollow point of choice. 230 grain ball is proven, and is a good round. Would a hollow point be even better? Ya, I’d say so. But that’s not to say that 230 grain ball ammo is a bad choice or that it’s not effective. It’s very effective.

Let us know how you make out with this. Sounds like a hot load for a 45 ACP. I’d start low and work your way up but keep in mind you might not see pressure signs on the cases or primers, but it may be over pressure in the pistol. Especially the 1911.

Unfortuantely, that is not correct. Ball has the lowest of all stopping power and is a danger to bystanders due to over penetration.

Any gun that can not reliably feed HP ammo is not a good choice for defense

Lol 45 ball will get the job done. If someone wants to carry ball ammo in a 45 and they're aware of what that round will do then more power to them. Still 1000x less gay than anything in .40
How is low stopping power and high possility of over penetration "getting the job done?"

40 cal HP will do a far better job than 45 ball

You are entitled to your opinion. But 230 grain ball ammo is proven to be very effective in terms of “stopping power”. Whether or not over penetration is a concern depends on the application or where someone is carrying. It’s a good round, has a proven track record of putting people in the dirt for good, and feeds reliably in all pistols that chamber 45 ACP. I recommend it.

I personally like the 147 gr hst at 1000 fps but I'm not about to stand in front of a 230 gr ball round. Would probably penetrate a windshield and still turn your head into a canoe at 100 yards.
