What did you do in the reloading room recently?

i also want to think that it is highly unlikely to happen, but the physics of the process there is still pretty much driven by the level of the compression of the primer material alone. because, again, the pressure is the temperature and vice versa. i am too rusty now to do an actual computation of what factual maximum pressure a dillon turret can do with the 223 bullet pressing into the powder.
when i deal with such situations i also always do it, well, gently. :) but, seating a 80gr .223 into a mag length on top of varget - well, it is a lot of compression there.

i also do not think i've EVER heard of the round going off while in the bullet seating die, so, may be it is indeed not possible.
Service rifle shooters been doing the hard crunch on 223 for some time. I wonder what would give before ignition ?

This Scale has been great.

Well, I have to thank you. I did not expect much but this cheap scale works, surprisingly, and so far it was consistent with sample tests I tried. No obvious drifts yet.
A factual accuracy seems to be 0.03 gr or so, but it is more than enough. Test was to zero one piece of brass and then measure others repeatedly- it was accurate.

Thanks i saw a great review and got one.

Messed around with a new sizing die and compared measurements to my existing. Up until this point I have ran a Forster die honed to .264 than would follow it with an expander mandrel at .241.

This new Short Action Custom die utilizes a bushing as well as a build in mandrel/decap pin which will eliminate a step. I also went down to a .2405 mandrel to test a little more neck tension. I like the idea of less sizing at the neck/shoulder juncture as well. tempImageyvJ3AS.png

Picked this up for 15 bucks. Old but unused.

Thinking I'd try it when making my bullseye league reloads. Unique powder meters like crap even thru my rcbs measure. I'll try setting the charge on the light side and use this to get the charge to exactly 4 grains.

I was picking through the brass bucket at the range and came across a bunch of Hornady 30-30 brass like I did last weekend. A few had split necks. Not sure if they’re factory or reloads. Makes me think I ought to scrap the Hornady brass I grabbed last weekend EE0A47CE-8251-4A41-B274-130B57576BBF.jpeg 2052E2EE-09F5-4542-9723-DBEAD32207CB.jpeg

So the Tikka is fine with CCI #41s. I ran some 55g FMJ gas gun food through it to foul the barrel and get myself warmed up to try to shoot a group with some Hornady 75g match. Not sure what's up with the horizontal stringing. Maybe partially me not being squared away behind the gun. I checked the action screw torque last night.

Accurate 2230 25.0g
Hornady 55 FMJ @ 2.200"
CCI #41

3100, 3058, 3093, 3044, 3037, avg 3066, es 63, sd 28

IMG_0282.JPG

Then I ran my little test batch through it:
IMR 3031 21.0g
Hornady 75g BHTP Match @ 0.055" long per RCBS ogive micrometer
CCI #400

2530, 2534, 2525, 2530, 2539, avg 2531, es 14, sd 5

I'm calling this 11/16" so about 0.69"

IMG_0285.JPG

After, I ran a little more 55g gas gun food through it just to bang away at some little steel plates, then packed up and went into the club house to sit by the wood stove with a cup of coffee and a book for a little while. Some people rolled in after me, and it sounded like Ukraine vs Russia on the rifle range for a little while. Before I headed out, I stopped down there to see if there was any cool brass left over. Found a bunch of Lake City '21 5.56, and about 60-80 Norma boxer primed 7.62x39. Not a bad morning at the range. :)

If you use Caldwell’s app, it will track the velocity parameters and you can take a pic of the target which will then calculate the spread of your groups. Just an idea

I have a Competition Electronics chrono that doesn't have networking or anything like that. It will record 10 strings of data separately from one another and calculate average, extreme spread, and standard deviation for each string. Then I just manually enter the data into my reloading spreadsheet when I get home. I have the spreadsheet set up to calculate that stuff too so I only have to enter the raw data for each reload. Here are the label cells and the cells from that load. I could paste a picture of the group into a data cell, but usually I just write anything notable in the comments cell. Not the slickest solution, but it's portable and easy to back up. I pasted the formulae in an additional row in columns S-W in case anyone wants to duplicate this. I have a tab in the spreadsheet for every type of round I reload so I can go back and look things up (38, 357, 9mm, 40, 12 gauge, 223). Now that I'm typing this out, I suppose I could also record lot numbers for the various components, but I'm not sure my shooting warrants that level of nerding. :)

Loaded some 45acp with a 230 grain cast lead bullet and BE-86. I'm starting at 5.6 and working up to 7. Looking for a mild load about 800 fps.
I shot the loads today out of a Colt 1911 and it looks like it will be 6.2 or 6.4. I'll shoot them out of the N frame S&W. I think it's a model 1951. It's whatever came before the model 25.
I just pulled it out of the safe. It's a model 1955. It looks exactly like what Clint Eastwood carried in the Dirty Harry movies but it's in 45acp instead of 44 magnum
6.2 it is.

It was cleanup and throw out time the other day and I ran across a kitty litter container with .308 Win Match Brass I hadn't seen in about 5 years !! Federal Gold Medal Match once fired, BHA Match once fired and the best of all WCC 85 Match UNFIRED !!!!! Needless to say, they did not make it to the "throw out" pile !!!!!

I am pretty sure I would need a machine rest to test those. I'd probably develop a flinch before I got to the end of the ladder test otherwise.

What are you running them through, and how long is the range where you use them? Very cool stuff.

Savage 110 BA HS Precision Stock, Trijicon TenMile 5-50x56 MOA scope - 20 MOA Rail - Silencerco Harvester 338 Big Bore Supressor with Anchor Brake on YHM QD mount and adapter.

Super rude without the can, awesome with the can. Feels like shooting a 308.

100y zero, have range with 100y, 150y, 225y. Plan on using this for 600y and more.

Originally I had a Barrett M82 50BMG that was awesome but limited ammo options and ranges comfortable with 50BMG, I sold it and went this route. So far, I’ve shot this 10x more than I ever did with the 50.
